Review: It Ends Here ‘Valen the Outcast’ #8

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, the same applies to Valen the Outcast. The folks at Boom! deliver a non-stop, action-packed thrill ride in this 8th, and final installment of the Valen Brands’ undead journey to retrieve is soul. It’s not often that one empathizes with an undead monster but Valen is something special. While the conclusion is a bit dry, I wish there were more books like “Valen” on the market. READ MORE

Review: Valen The Outcast #2

Necromancers are pretty badass. I can safely say i’ve always had a soft spot for them, especially since my days of attempting to get one to level 80 in Diablo 2, and reading the Magic the Gathering novels that featured Volrath. Yes, I was that kind of kid. Recently, however, there haven’t been any necromancers that I’ve been obsessed with, but that quickly changed after reading the first two issues of Boom! Studio’s new series, Valen the Outcast. Read on for the skinny….

Predator, 28 Days Later and More – New Releases This Week 8/26

While it’s a pretty small list of horror comics this week, it’s a pretty good list. The good “sequel” to 28 Days Later comes out, Predator #2, and the trade paperback of the highly sought after Killer of Demons. Also the comic adaptation of Jennifer’s Body is out, which will be the only way I ever associate with that film…sorry Megan Fox, I don’t like you. Full list after the break…What are you getting?

Review: 28 Days Later #1

The great people over at Boom Comics sent me the first issue of 28 Days Later this weekend. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I thought the movie ended in a nice little package, but it did leave some opportunities for a sequel…but is it worth your $3.99. Check my review after the break.

Poe Coming This July

Coming this July is Boom Comic’s Poe. A story about the author himself fighting against the supernatural. This seems to be somewhat in the same vein of the Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft. I’m pretty excited for this and really hope for the best. More info after the break.

Necronomicon TPB Available Now

One of the comics that came out this week was Boom Comic’s Necronomicon in trade paperback form. I had a chance to pick this up at the store and I’ve liked what I have read so far. I tend to pick up most comics in trade form so I can get the whole story without being left on a cliffhanger month to month. The story is quite typical where a lowly college student must save the world from demons of the Necronomicon. One thing that did stick out in this series is the artwork from Andrew Ritchie who also does the Call of Cthulu comics for boom. The art is very reminiscent of 30′s or 40′s comic art. That art choice helps to keep the story off kilter and deranged when I read it. If this title seems like something up your alley, I suggest picking up the trade…More info after the break…

Relativity Media Readies Game of ‘Tag’

We received an anonymous tip that Relativity Media (who purchased all of Rogue Pictures’ property) is fast-tracking Carey Malloy’s adaptation of Boom! Studios’ comic book TAG. Our regular tipster tells us that the studio has hired Simon Crane to direct the film, which is set in motion when an average Joe strolls down the street after a fight with his girlfriend when a random stranger tags him, handing off an ancient pagan curse. He begins to literally die, seeing his body begin to decompose every day before his very eyes. Cursed, he must either surrender or find the next victim to tag. We also have been told that Hayden Christiansen is in talk to star, although that has yet to be confirmed.

Hexed #1 Free to Read on Myspace Comics Same Day as Print Release

In a quite a gutsy move, Boom Comics is releasing their new series Hexed #1 on myspace comics and in print on the same day, Wednesday January 7. You can read the FULL issue for FREE on myspace starting Wednesday. This might seem like a crazy business decision for Boom but there studies show sales go up 30 percent by doing this. I encourage more comic companies to do this to get more people interested in new series. I just wish myspace’s comic section wasn’t so horribly laid out…just awful. More information after the jump.
