[TV] AMC Outdoes Itself With Blu-ray Set For “The Walking Dead” Season Three

While you’re tuned into AMC later this week watching the back half of The Walking Dead season three (premiering Sunday, February 10 at 9pm ET), you can start salivating over this DVD/Blu-ray box set many of you will eventually buy.

There’s a rundown of the box over at MTV and the whole thing seems pretty cool and very unique. It’s based on The Governor’s custom TV set-up and apparently even requires water. The whole thing was created in conjunction with Robert Kirkman, Todd McFarlane and AMC and features five decapitated zombie heads floating in water.

Kirkman says, “McFarlane has a very intimate relationship with AMC, so I was approving concepts on this Blu-Ray case before Season Three even aired. So while we were building things on set, Todd and the team at McFarlane Toys were coming in and scanning actors and scanning props. So having them come in and do the fish tank with the severed heads while we were still building it for the show is a pretty cool thing, and I think makes these products much more accurate and cooler for the fans.

There’s no release date for the set as of yet, but you can bet we’ll keep you posted. Head inside to check out some images! READ MORE

Motörhead Does NOT Want People To Buy The New Box Set

Motörhead Does NOT Want People To Buy The New Box Set
Rock band Motörhead have gone on record saying that a new box set entitled Complete Early Years should NOT be purchased by anyone, even super hardcore fans. The reason? It costs too much. Like, $600 too much. The company that put out the box set has the rights to early recordings and is putting out a 15-disc box set in a (admittedly awesome) custom skull box with light up red eyes.
“Unfortunately greed once again rears its yapping head,” says frontman Lemmy Kilmister. “I would advise against it even for the most rabid completists!”

[Blu-ray Review] ‘Underworld Trilogy: The Essential Collection’

After the success of Resident Evil, Sony Screen Gems was looking to create another action-horror hybrid to release during the slower movie-going months of the year, and went with a pitch from a music video director/guy from Roland Emmerich’s art department, Len Wiseman. Underworld, which did decent business in the RE spot before becoming a January tentpole for the distributor, is a slick-looking but ultimately hollow series with some neat monster designs and a good looking heroine. I have to give credit where credit is due: they created a series with a slightly intensive mythology, filled with lineages and centuries-old feuds, but give almost zero character development to anyone. Now THAT’S impressive. For this review, I’m going to be focusing on the box set and the new features on it rather than the films themselves, since we already have stand-alone reviews for them on the site. READ MORE

[DVD Review] ‘Friday The 13th’ Ultimate Collection Limited Edition

When Paramount released the first Friday the 13th box set back in 2004, it was a huge disappointment. Fans were finally able to buy the first eight films together, true, but none of them were uncut and bonus features – which Jason aficionados knew existed through the festival circuit, overseas releases and the like – were nowhere to be found. The supplemental materials included were a bit better than most people gave them credit for being, but the sting of not having uncut versions sent fans over the edge – folks, we’re never going to get them uncut due to monetary concerns and guild regulations.

New ‘Friday The 13th’ Box Set Coming This October

When Paramount started releasing Blu-ray and DVD “Deluxe Editions” of Friday The 13th and its sequels, fans were both elated and somewhat disgruntled. In 2004, they released what should have been the box set to end all box sets, but instead failed to include a lot of bonus materials that WE KNEW existed – some of these supplemental materials ended up on the reissues. The studio only released the first three films on Blu-ray, but continued their series on DVD. Now, they’re releasing a new box set on October 4th including all of the deluxe editions, a hockey mask and an eight-page booklet. Oh, and it’s limited to 50,000 copies worldwide.

I’m sorry, but it’s 2011: this should be available on Blu-ray, too. A hockey mask replica and an eight-page book? Seriously Paramount, those are your selling points? What Jason mega-fan doesn’t own a hockey mask or Peter Bracke’s Crystal Lake Memories already?

You know what would be great, though? Uncut, remastered editions of the first eight films on both formats.
