Review: ‘B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth’ #107: Wasteland

With events in Russia being relatively wrapped up for the Bureau and their Russian counter parts, the story moves back to North America with its newest arc B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: Wasteland, where the always lovable Johann takes center stage. The role of Laurence Campbell as illustrator for this book gives it a very different look and feel to it than most B.P.R.D. issues. The story line for “Hell on Earth” is really heating up and this arc looks to be one of the best of the bunch. READ MORE

Review: ‘Abe Sapien: Dark and Terrible’ #2

The new ongoing series Abe Sapien: Dark and Terrible continues this week with an issue that really begins to delve into the origin of Abe, and perhaps his destiny, in the massive event occurring in B.P.R.D. Abe’s presence has been missed, and unlike the previous issue, we really get some good ol’ Abe action this time around. Scott Allie has really taken the reins from Migonal when it comes to the “Hell on Earth” event and he is doing a fantastic job of creating a thrilling story. On the other hand, Sebastián Fiumara has not been a staple in the B.P.R.D. world, but he is really making a name for himself here. READ MORE

Review: ‘B.P.R.D Hell on Earth: Cold day in Hell’ #106

Abe Sapien is AWOL, Hellboy is in Hell, but the BPRD has to keep its head above water as they face an ongoing war with super natural beasts worldwide. B.P.R.D Hell on Earth “Cold day in Hell” part 2 is that situation in a nutshell as the BPRD works hand in hand with their Russian counter parts to put a strangle hold on the shitnami tidal wave that’s crashing down globally. John Arcudi takes on the main writing role and is aided by the talented illustrator Peter Snejbjerg (it’s a good thing you don’t have to hear me butcher that last name) and the noteworthy effort of colourist Dave Stewart. Review: ‘Abe Sapien’ #1

Throughout the past few months Abe Sapien has made several cameos in the “B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth” event, spending his time in a Star Wars-esque healing tank repairing a life threatening gunshot wound. Abe Sapien #1: Dark and Terrible sees the full return of this bad ass character. A lot of time has passed since his injury and his awakening isn’t the joy fest it should be. The “Hell on Earth” event continues to storm on as “Hellboy in Hell” plays out alongside it, and Abe has been left in the dark. It’s clear that he will play an epic role in the future, but will it be for the good or the evil? Mike Mignola, Scott Allie, Sebastián Fiumara, and Dave Stewart have done an outstanding job on this issue, which bodes very well for the future of this new ongoing series. READ MORE

Review: ‘B.P.R.D.: Vampire’ #1

Mignola and company reignite the vampire storyline from BPRD with the first issue of BPRD: Vampire, which is set in 1948 to continue to expand history of this universe. This book takes on a much different look than the greater portion of anything by Mignola, this is no doubt a result of the two co-creators and artists Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon. This issue is a tad on the slow side but this does not take away from the overall effect of issue and it sets up some early tension for the next 4 issues of this story arc. READ MORE

Review: ‘B.P.R.D. 1948′ #1

Mike Mignola’s B.P.R.D. universe has really been pushing the “Hell on Earth” event leaving little else new to occupy the shelves. This week that changes with the first instalment of a 5-part mini series entitled B.P.R.D 1948, which takes off right where “1947″ left us; this brings back some classic characters like Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, Agent Anders, Agent Stegner and the 4 year old Hellboy. This book delves into testing atomic bombs for rocket propulsion in Utah desert and its relation to the appearance of a massive monster, just a day in the life for the average B.P.R.D. employee. The series is meant to evolve the history of B.P.R.D coming away from Europe and Nazis, but unfortunately, this issue offers little in the way of action and excitement. READ MORE

Review: ‘B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Return of the Master’ #1

After several weeks of waiting, I’m rather pleased that Dark Horse finally released a new issue in the “B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth” saga, The Return of the Master part 1. Thehe “Hell on Earth” event is starting to come to a head, and this issue shows that a lot more brooding trouble is on the way for the Bureau. “The Return of the Master” #1 contains some breakthrough plot advancements as well as a healthy supply of blood and violence, fitting in perfectly with the event. B.P.R.D. Will Be Renumbered Starting At Issue #100

The editor of Dark Horse Comics, Scott Allie, told Comics Allians their plans to begin numbering B.P.R.D. starting with #100, in order to stray from their “ongoing series of miniseries.” Starting things off at issue #100 will undoubtedly be confusing for comic shoppers who do not frequent online news sites, and it really adds to the whole fear-of-missing-out problem that is already predominant in comics. Scott Allie assures, however, that this is the right move for the series. Read on… READ MORE

Review: ‘B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth: Exorcism’ #2

And boom goes the dynamite! BPRD’s “Hell on Earth” saga strikes again with another kick ass story arc as the 2-part “Exorcism” comes to a blood pumping conclusion. I assumed that this issue would be faster paced than the first, which wasn’t too shabby to begin with. Of course, I was right. Story arc after story arc “B.P.R.D.” has delivers nonstop entertainment with quality story lines and consistently fabulous art. Review: ‘B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth: The Devil’s Engine’ #3

This week has been long anticipated for BPRD fans as “The Devil’s Engine” comes to a gut busting conclusion. It’s a nice wrap up to the arc, and it will only leave readers wanting more “Hell on Earth”. As always the art is fantastic and the story escalates the “Hell on Earth” story line further as the forces of darkness continue to strive for mayhem and destruction. With “The Devil’s Engine” ending its three-part arc this week and “Exorcism” closing out its two-part arc next week, all I can do is salivate in anticipation of the next BPRD installment. READ MORE

In order to offer a lesson in B.P.R.D. History 101, Arcudi goes back to 1948 in the New Mexico. The 5-issue miniseries is a continuation of the “1947″ storyline and it features art by Max Fiumara. Review: ‘BPRD Hell On Earth: The Transformation of JH O’Donnell’ One Shot

The first thing that popped into my head when reading Dark Horse Comics newest installment in the B.P.R.D. “Hell on Earth” event was, “finally”! A flash back to a time when crazy old Professor O’Donnell wasn’t crazy or old, allows for a refreshing story that finally brings back one of my favorite demonic heroes, Hellboy. Allie writes this book in a way that adds new meaning to the word creepy. If you thought “Pickens County Horror” was incredibly eerie, let’s just say a new champion has been crowned. This one shot issue is one of the best of “Hell on Earth” so far, with an eye opening reveal of O’Donnell’s past. READ MORE

Despite Mignola’s obsession with all supernatural monsters, vampires (perhaps the most famous of all monsters) have been far and few between in his works. However, in a recent discussion with CBR, Mignola spoke about his plans to change that in the BPRD Universe; the vampires are coming out of hiding. The “The Pickens County Horror” two-parter offered a glimpse into the vampire world of BPRD and next week’s “Transformation of J. H. O’Donnell” the bloodsuckers are back in full force to attack our favorite paranormal investigators. READ MORE

Something is definitely wrong in Pickens County, but the presence of a family of vampires is only the beginning!
