I’ve gone from knowing a bit about Hellboy and knowing nothing about BPRD to being a big fan in the past few weeks. Nothing better than being plunked down into the middle of eerie story! With all this new age vampire garbage like Twilight (puke) it’s tough to take anything vampire related seriously, whether it be a novel, a comic, or film. Thankfully, Dark Horse Comics didn’t get the “pop culture” memo! Vampires are back and they will take the world by storm, or so they hope, thanks to Mike Mignola and Scott Allie’s newest installment of Hell on Earth. Not like I expected anything else, but it’s another great issue in the Mignola world.

As far as the comic realm goes I am relatively new to Hellboy let alone the BPRD books affiliated with the big red bastard. I’ve always been a huge fan of the del Toro films, but I just never got around to reading the source material. When I picked up Dark Horse’s newest BPRD series, BPRD Hell on Earth: The Long Death, I was devastated by the fact that I am so far behind the times! Why wasn’t I reading more of this earlier! Blood and gore galore (see what I did there?), a big mean cat-creature from hell, and the spectral wonder Johann Kraus; where could you go wrong? I think I’ve found my new obsession. Hell On Earth has been a long time coming, seeing it’s origin back in 2010. The Long Death launches the continuation of Mignola’s epic B.P.R.D. event for 2012, and ya’ll better watch out. Mignola has always been a master of suspense and thrills, but with this issue, he cranks the notch up to 11, setting the bar high for what’s to come for B.P.R.D this year. Mignola and Arcudi toss all conventions and tropes out the window and you can already tell that Hell On Earth will be delivering some game-changing blows to the B.P.R.D. crew.
