Puscifer Announce ‘All Re-Mixed Up’: Set Release Date

Puscifer, the side project from Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, has announced that they will be releasing All Re-Mixed Up on August 27th. The album will feature remixes of several Puscifer songs from the Conditions Of My Parole (review) by several artists, including Sir Mix-A-Lot, Aaron Harris (ex-ISIS) of Palms, John Fryer of This Mortal Coil, Rani Sharone of Stolen Babies, and more as well as a remix by band member Carina Round.

Keenan states, “All Re-Mixed Up is the continuation of the Puscifer tradition to release alternate versions, reworks, and remixes of what we consider initial thoughts. For instance, Carina Round was nervous about how to approach her version of ‘Telling Ghosts.’ Mat Mitchell put her at ease by asking her to think of it as a song half written, advising her to ‘now write the other half.’ It’s extremely liberating in the digital age to approach composing and creating in this manner. Infinite paths to explore, reinterpret, and re-present.

Puscifer Release “Bohemian Rhapsody” Music Video

A truly odd and somewhat demented video for Puscifer‘s take on the Queen classic “Bohemian Rhapsody” can be seen below. The video was directed by Mike King, Flea Circus Films & Puscifer and stars Dina Martina, Laura Milligan, Carina Round, Dan Burns, and Maynard James Keenan. The video is being likened to something out of a Tim And Eric sketch, and it’s pretty easy to see why. Poorly imposed heads, strange expressions, odd make up, and purposefully misplayed instruments are all a part of this strange video.

The song comes from the band’s latest EP Donkey Punch The Night (review). The EP was released today and can be purchased on iTunes. READ MORE

[Album Review] Puscifer ‘Donkey Punch The Night EP’

Singer Maynard James Keenan seems to have found a very happy, comforting second home in the form of Puscifer. A project that is challenging and inventive, Puscifer satisfies needs, emotions, and sounds that Tool is unable to provide. And while we all wait for a fifth Tool album, there is something to be said about the investment and energy that Keenan invests into Puscifer.

I’ve made it quite clear that I was never a fan of the first Puscifer release, V Is For Vagina but also how I was completely won over by Conditions Of My Parole. Now I’ve been presented with a new EP entitled Donkey Punch The Night Away. With two new tracks, two covers and three remixes, it’s an interesting beast, one that took more than a few spins to really understand and appreciate. Join me below for my full thoughts. READ MORE

Puscifer Unveils ‘Donkey Punch The Night’ EP Album Artwork…I Think?

Alright, I can’t guarantee 100% that this is the album artwork for Puscifer‘s upcoming EP Donkey Punch The Night. Yes, the Pusicfer official Facebook page posted it. However, it’s so…cheap, ugly, amateurish, and terrible that I can’t bring myself to believe that it’s the final artwork. I’m guessing it’s gotta be some kind of joke. It looks like someone put it together in MS Paint (the Windows 95 version). Check it out below if you dare.

The EP will be released Feb. 19th, 2013 and will include a cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The band will be performing Apr. 6th, 2013 at Lollapalooza in Santiago, Chile. READ MORE

[Album Review] Carina Round ‘Tigermending’

On Tigermending, Carina Round seems to have both mellowed out a bit from her previous releases as well as become more experimental. Perhaps it’s partially due to her work with Puscifer or perhaps it’s simply due to it being five years since her last release, Slow Motion Addict. But none of that especially matters as this album is nothing short of an astonishing, emotional, mysterious, beautiful journey. Read on for my take on her fourth full-length album. READ MORE

Carina Round Set To Release ‘Tigermending’ This Spring

carinaround Carina Round Set To Release Tigermending This Spring
LA-by-way-of-England singer Carina Round will be releasing a new album, Tigermending, on May 1st. The album will feature guest appearances from Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Brian Eno, and Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins).
Round says the recording process was a “…time and freedom to experiment and explore,” which gave each song a unique personality, ranging from “guitar ragers, acoustic beauties, electronic epics, a little prog moment and all the good stuff in between with a strong backbone running through the whole record.”
The singer was the opening act for recent Puscifer tours as well as pulling double-duty and singing with the band.
