[Album Review] Leprous ‘Coal’

In 2011, my musical world was rocked by an album that I still play on a constant basis: LeprousBilateral. A tour de force of progressive rock/metal, Bilateral resonated deep within me, satisfying nearly every want I might have from an album. Astonishing vocals, clever play between instruments, crushing guitars, sublime textures, and more. It is one of those albums that I put on and let play through the whole way.

Now the Norwegian band is back with their latest offering Coal. Could this album match my nearly astronomical expectations set by Bilateral? Head on below to find out. READ MORE

[Album Review] Dark Tranquillity ‘Construct’

Ask any metalhead and they will tell you that the progenitors of the Gothenburg melodic death metal sound are At The Gates, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity. These three bands created and shaped a sound that would become a staple in the metal world. In my personal opinion, At The Gates is the most metal, In Flames became the most accessible, and Dark Tranquillity was the “horror movie” of melodic death metal.

Now, these masters of metal are back with Construct, their 10th studio album. The follow up to 2010’s We Are The Void, Construct was produced by Jens Bogren, the acclaimed producer who has worked with such bands as Opeth, Leprous, Soilwork, Katatonia, and many more. With such a storied legacy as well as the clout of Bogren behind them, could Dark Tranquillity bring yet another winner to the genre? Head on below to find out! READ MORE

[Exclusive] Amazing Photos From The Upcoming TesseracT “Of Energy – Singularity”

Bloody-Disgusting is thrilled to bring you an exclusive first look at the upcoming TesseracT music video for “Of Energy – Singularity” with eight amazing photos. The photos show a woman in red lingerie (possibly NSFW?) as well as close ups of some strange, alien creature. There’s also a nice homage to A Nightmare On Elm St. with a strange tentacle joining the woman in the bath.

Video production began on “Singularity” a few days ago. Produced by Horsie In The Hedge/Pari Passu Films and featuring the Emmy Award-winning director of photography Mark Wolf, as well as the practical effects team that worked on Skyfall and Prometheus, the video is sure to be as cinematically stunning as the music itself.

Dark Tranquillity Releases Official Video For “Uniformity”

Swedish metal band Dark Tranquillity have released an official video for “Uniformity”, the newest single from their upcoming album Construct. The video was directed by the prolific Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Lacuna Coil, Hammerfall). You can watch the video below.

After the introspective ‘For Broken Words’ and the uptempo riffing of ‘The Science of Noise’, it’s time to showcase the more anthemic aspects of the new album with the song ‘Uniformity’. In contrast to the more experimental promo videos we made last year, we wanted the ‘Uniformity’ clip to be an intimate and genuine performance video. Nothing but the music itself and the band members playing in the rehearsal room. For this, we hired renowned director Patric Ullaeus, and we’re very happy to share the result with you. Stand up and be counted!

Construct comes out May 27th via Century Media Records. READ MORE

[Album Review] TesseracT ‘Altered State’

When it was announced that TesseracT’s second full-length, Altered State, was going to be another “one track broken into several tracks” situation (exactly like their 2010 Concealing Fate EP), I was both extremely excited and full of uncertainty and hesitancy. After all, the band had struck gold with Concealing Fate. Could lightning strike twice? It was a question that stuck with me until I received a copy of their latest album. And now, having listened to the album more than once (read: a veritable sh*t ton of times), I can give my answer. Head on below for my thoughts. READ MORE

Dark Tranquillity Streams New Song “The Science Of Noise”

Swedish melodic death metal masters Dark Tranquillity have released another new song from their upcoming album Construct, which comes out May 28th via Century Media Records. Below you can listen to “The Science Of Noise”, which is, for me, another confirmation that Dark Tranquillity are going to release one of the best metal albums this year. These guys have always been a “go to” group for me when I needed to do some serious headbanging, so be sure that I’m keeping a close eye on this release. READ MORE

Israeli metal band Orphaned Land has released the album artwork and track listing for their upcoming album All Is One, which comes out June 25th in N. America via Century Media Records. The artwork, which was done by French artist Metastazis (Paradise Lost, As I Lay Dying) incorporates the three biggest religious symbols into one piece of art (I foresee more than a few tattoos coming from this). Leprous Unveils Album Artwork For ‘Coal’: Announce New Music Video

Norwegian prog-metal band Leprous will be releasing their new album Coal on May 28th in N. America (May 20th in Europe) via InsideOut Music. The band has just revealed the album artwork, which was done by Jeff Jordan (who had done the artwork for 2011′s Bilateral).

Commenting on the artwork, the band states, “The artwork for this album was a hard nut to crack. We wanted something dark, melancholic but with a distinct character. We tried several solutions without finding the perfect supplement for the music, before we decided to contact Jeff Jordan once again. Jeff immediately had wonderful ideas that we decided to pursue. The artwork of ‘Coal’ is in my opinion the most iconic we’ve had so far.

In regards to their upcoming video for “The Cloak”: “A new Leprous video is in the making! We spent one very long day inside the Konnerud Hill Mines here in Norway, getting some very interesting footage. The video, just like the clip for ‘Restless’ on our previous album, was made by Twitchy Films once again, but we promise you no fish or cake was harmed this time around. A dark, moist atmosphere, far into the deep…

NSFW: In This Moment Release Video For “Adrenalize”

Female-fronted metal band In This Moment has released an official video for “Adrenalize”, which comes from their latest album Blood. The video features a thick filter, some jarring edits (which are reminiscent of how Dr. Vannacutt moves in the House On Haunted Hill remake), and a lot of people with animal masks engaging in rather naughty behavior (hence the NSFW tag). It’s a fairly fun video and it’s always nice to look at Maria Brink (I’m such a lech). Head on below to enjoy the video. READ MORE

TesseracT To Record Live Session Of ‘Altered State’?

It has been announced that prog-metal band TesseracT has booked a session at Sphere Studios with the intent of recording a live performance, although they did not specify what exactly they will be recording. The band has previously released a live DVD of themselves performing the entire Concealing Fate EP in one uninterrupted take (which you can see below), so it’s highly possible that this is the plan and that the band will be recording a one-take of their new album Altered State.

Bassist Amos Williams comments, “I am pleased to announce that TesseracT have just booked Sphere Studios to do another live session. The Concealing Fate live session we did was one of the most fun days I’ve ever had as a musician, so I’m really looking forward to recording and filming another batch of tracks with Francesco Cameli (New Model Army, Queen, BFMV, Gary Moore).

Altered State will be released May 27th via Century Media Records. READ MORE

Finnish troll metal band Finntroll have released an official music video for “Häxbrygd”, which comes off their latest album Blodsvept. The video shows the band rocking out in a car mechanic shop as well as them working on building their own hot rod. It’s a lighthearted yet oddly deranged video and is pretty entertaining.

TesseracT Unleash A Second ‘Altered State’ Trailer

It really seems that TesseracT are fast becoming a band that is not only releasing amazing music but are shaping and paving the way of the future of their genre. Their music is sophisticated yet engaging, intricate yet powerful, and, at the end of the day, it’s f*cking fantastic. I still blast the Concealing Fate EP and use them as an example of metal with amazing melody and vocals.

['Evil Dead' Month] Members Of The Black Dahlia Murder, Paradise Lost, Napalm Death, And More Talk The ‘Evil Dead’ Films

The new Evil Dead film will be coming out next Friday and it seems like the entire horror fanbase is on pins and needles awaiting its release. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve seen such hype for a horror release since I began here at Bloody-Disgusting back in late 2009. From the look of it, it’s a film that not only respects the horror fanbase but is a film made for us. Still, having not seen the film, I can only wait with you and hope for the best.

This excitement and fervor has swept into the music world and members of some of the most extreme and intense bands out there want to share their thoughts on the original films and the upcoming remake. Dark Tranquillity Release Artwork, Track Listing, And Trailer For New Album

Swedish melodic metal legends Dark Tranquillity have announced that they will be releasing their latest album Construct on May 27th in Europe (May 28th in the US) via Century Media Records. This album will be the followup to 2010′s We Are The Void. The band has also released the track list, cover art, and a trailer, all of which can be seen below.

The band comments on the new album, “The selected few people that so far have been granted the privilege of hearing the full album are uniformingly convinced that ‘Construct’ is the strongest and most exciting D.T. album in a long time, and who are we to disagree? While still bearing the unmistakable mark of the dark tranquillity, the record is probably our most different and diverse offering since 1999′s ‘Projector’. For now, we’re pleased to share the track-list, trailer and sleeve design with you, but the first musical preview will appear in the near future.

Dark Tranquillity has long been a band I have enjoyed and they were also one of the first major interviews I did for BD. Therefore, they’ll always have a special place in my heart! READ MORE
