Yep! It’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving is on Thursday, which means dutiful consumers are already preparing for the Holiday Shopping Season. If you think you’re exempt from that, think again. Either you know a fellow horror fan (or family member) in need, or you want something for yourself! You can take this as advice for what to buy, or what to ask for.

This fourth installment is all about books and comics…lots of comics! We’ve got a few behind-the-scenes looks at some of your favorite movies, some novels, and some collector’s editions for you to check out as well. 2011 has been a good year for Image Comics’ “CHEW”. The series has not only been successfully optioned for TV rights thanks to Showtime, but it has also netted itself 3 Eisner Award noms. Not bad for a series that most publishers didn’t think would ever sell, much less become an industry-wide hit. However, for all of the odds that were against it, “CHEW” has beaten them all in order to become one of the most surprising creator-owned hit series in years, and all because of the creator himself, writer John Layman. John was gracious enough to sit down and talk to me about the project, the Eisner nominations, and the foray into Hollywood, which you can read beyond the break. Read on for the skinny…

Taking a page out of “DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH”s book, John Layman and company are paying homage to one of film’s most popular titles with the cover of “CHEW” issue #13 by referencing “PULP FICTION” (See below). The reference is to promote the third issue in the ‘JUST DESSERTS’ storyline, and if you make the jump you can check out a 5 page preview of the issue. Read on for the skinny.

Okay, so this might not exactly be “NIGHT OF THE CHICKEN DEAD” territory, but this still looks hilarious. Publisher Image Comics has released a 5 page preview of the latest issue of “CHEW” that went on sale TODAY, and in the preview the gang are faced with an old foe: the killer cock named Poyo! “CHEW” very well might be one of the most highly praised stories in the genre right now, and the fact that the little title that could from author John Layman has done so well has to be a testament to the writer’s love for his brainchild. Last month it was “WTF…VAMPIRES?!” and as if that weren’t enough for the cast of John Layman’s “CHEW”, but now they have to deal with cannibals! For those who just can’t get enough of Layman’s ongoing monthly from Image Comics you can chew on (too much?) this 5 page preview of the 10th issue that doesn’t drop until April 14th. There are barely any comics coming out this week, it makes sense since most people are in transit right now to see loved ones instead of spending time in a comic shop. Well if you’re a brave soul or a loner this week, there are a coople titles you might want to look out for. You have not read it yet, CHEW from image comics is very interesting. I was assuming this week there weren’t’ going to be any good horror comics coming out….well I was sorely mistaken. I would suggest a couple titles to pick up this week: North 40 (if this does not become a tv show/movie, Hollywood is even more stupid than I thought), Sweet Tooth (it’s only a buck and it’s creepy good), Last Resort(with must buy covers by Darwyn Cooke, the story is actually pretty good and is very well paced), and Chew(everyone should really be reading this…Period). Also a new Marvel Zombies has come out, but I can’t suggest it since I haven’t read it yet. What are you getting this week?
