Never-Before-Heard Deftones Album ‘Eros’ To Be Released

In an interview with Artisan News at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards ceremony, Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno gave an update about Eros, the unreleased album that features the last works of bassist Chi Cheng before the terrible auto accident that left him in a coma for over four years before his passing this year in April. The video interview can be seen below.

When asked about the possibility of the album being released, Moreno stated, “It will. I think more so now probably than ever. I actually went back and listened to some of it recently and… you know, I don’t know when or… but I feel it’s a little more appropriate now for us to think about that in the last few years to think about.

Deftones went on to win the Album of the Year for Koi No Yokan (review) at the ceremony. READ MORE

R.I.P Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Passes Away At 42

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I write that Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has passed away at age 42. Cheng was involved in a car accident in 2008 and had been in a semi-comatose state since then. While he never made a full recovery, there were times when Cheng was showing improvement. A statement from his mother can be read below.

Cheng’s last recordings were for the Deftones album Eros, which is still unreleased, although singer Chino Moreno has said that the recordings will be released one day. Bassist Sergio Vega came in and has recorded the band’s last two albums, Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan.

Our deepest condolences go out to Cheng’s family, his friends, the members of Deftones, and to all the fans around the world. It seems so wrong that a man who fought so hard for the past four and a half years passed so suddenly.

Rest in peace, Chi. You are missed. READ MORE

Deftones Might Release ‘Eros’, The Last Album With Chi Cheng

In an interview with KROQ, Deftones singer Chino Moreno has raised the possibility that the band might release Eros, the 2008 album that was being recorded when bassist Chi Cheng got into a car accident and fell into a coma. Since Cheng was part of the creative process, the band collectively decided to put the album aside when bassist Sergio Vega came aboard.

Moreno explains about Eros, “…I think that record really captured that time in our lives and I don’t think we’re ready to look back at that time just yet. It’s really still fresh, like a fresh wound in a way, so it’s like one day we’ll release it but right now it’s one of the most personal things that we still deal with everyday so to kind of go there at this point when we feel like we’re really trudging forward doesn’t feel right.

So, nothing is certain or concrete but there are hopes that we one day can hear Cheng’s contributions. Meanwhile, the band will be releasing their latest album Koi No Yokan on Nov. 13th. You can hear the current single “Leathers” below. READ MORE

Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Beginning To Emerge From His Coma

Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Beginning To Emerge From His Coma

Three years ago, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a car accident that left him in a coma and required part of his brain to be removed. Now, he is coming from an unconscious state to a partially conscious one. Below is a video of Chi lifting his left leg when requested.
Chi’s family has been running OneLoveForChi.com in an effort to raise money required to help the recovery of the bassist. However, they only have just under $18,000 of the necessary $250,000 needed to help Chi attain a full recovery. With this progress, help is now needed more than ever.
Keep fighting Chi! You’ve got such a strong fan/support system behind you, it will amaze you once you wake up!
