‘Carrie’ Remake Confirms Julianne Moore, Gets Close To Gabriella Wilde

Casting is still underway for Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie, which Sony has officially slated for release on March 15, 2013. Kick-Ass and Let Me In‘s Chloe Moretz has the title role and Deadline just double-confirmed our exclusive scoop from last month that Julianne Moore would be playing Carrie’s mother. Moore’s deal has now been finalized and now the production is close to hiring Gabriella Wilde (pictured below; The Three Musketeers).

Per Deadline, “Now the studio is negotiating with Gabriella Wilde for the the role of Sue Snell, the role originated by Amy Irving.

The Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa adaptation of the Stephen King thriller is “About the hyperkinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students.” King’s bestselling book was turned into the 1976 film that starred Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Amy Irving and Piper Laurie as the repressive mother. On Carrie, Aguirre-Sacasa will write a version that is more faithful to the King book than the earlier movie. READ MORE

Chloe Moretz Rots For Title Role In Undead ‘Maggie’

After playing a vampire and a werewolf, Dark Shadows and Let Me In star Chloe Moretz (pictured) is in negotiations to complete the terrifying trifecta and play a zombie alongside Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum) in Maggie, which Inferno Entertainment will finance and handle international sales for at Cannes, reports Variey.

Commercial helmer Henry Hobson will make his feature directorial debut working with a Black List script from John Scott 3.

Set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse, story concerns a father’s unconditional love for his daughter.” Considine is in talks to play the father, while Moretz would play his titular daughter, Maggie, a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie.

As previously reported, Maggie changes the lightning quick infection period evident in most zombie films, where victims become zombies in minutes. It will take six months for Maggie to turn, and the film tracks the transformation as she stays with her family.

Pierre-Ange Le Pogam is producing the $10 million pic, which is scheduled to start production in September.

Moretz is also starring in the title role of MGM’s remake of Carrie.

Got An Appetite For Deppstruction? Nine New Clips From ‘Dark Shadows’!

Wow. At first it was “the movie without a trailer.” Now, it’s the movie with so many trailers and clips I seriously don’t know how much is left undiscovered. Now Warner Bros. has released nine new clips from Dark Shadows. I kind of like what I see. At least it seems to have more drive than something like Alice In Wonderland.

Johnny Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, Bella Heathcote, Cloe Moretz, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Thomas McDonell, Gulliver McGrath and Jonny Lee Miller all star. The film is of course directed by Tim Burton.

In theaters May 11, “The story focuses on Barnabas Collins (Depp), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green’s witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried. He’s just been dug up, and attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Michelle Pfeiffer’s Elizabeth and Jonny Lee Miller’s Roger – despite the fact that Angelique is still around and still not in a forgiving mood.

UPDATE: ‘Carrie’ Might Have Found Footage Elements, Plus Some Words From Chloe Moretz On The Project

1carrie 1FEATUREDIMAGE1976 040912 UPDATE: Carrie Might Have Found Footage Elements, Plus Some Words From Chloe Moretz On The Project

Update: Deadline has confirmed our exclusive from two weeks ago in which we announced that Julianne Moore was in talks to play Carrie’s mom.

A couple of interesting tidbits today about the upcoming Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) directed remake of Carrie. The first of which is that the film may contain a few found footage elements. Now, various sectors of Twitter are already in a tizzy about this – but the report doesn’t sound conclusive by any means. And, even if this is correct, it doesn’t sound like the whole thing will be found footage.

This all comes from a talk MGM CEO Roger Birnbaum gave at the University of Denver. Per an anonymous student, “The CEO of MGM, Roger Birnbaum, came and spoke at my university today… [he] made it sound like it’s going to be a “found footage” type of film. The film is going to have interviews with the survivors of the prom incident, and focus on that take.” This could actually be faithful. As Peter Hall at Movies.com points out, “King’s original novel is interspersed with various “official” documents recounting what happened on Carrie’s deadly prom night (a writing technique called epistolary, which is basically the literary equivalent of found footage), so if Aguirre-Sacasa’s script is indeed going back to the source material, the film focusing on “interviews with the survivors of the prom incident” makes perfect sense.

This doesn’t excite me, but neither does it get me all hot and bothered. I suppose I’m neutral on the idea of a Carrie remake in general. The other tidbit of this story – which doesn’t necessarily clash with the found footage stuff – is the following quote star Chloe Moretz gave to Box Office Pro during a Dark Shadows interview, “It’s an amazing role, and I’m so excited to get in there and try to tackle it and see what I can change up. It’s already been done, and there’s already been the amazing, amazing Sissy Spacek version of it, but what I really want to do is spice it up and take a more modern, younger approach to it because I am going through what Carrie is going through. She’s figuring out who she is, and I just really want to get in there and see what I can do, feel it out.

Carrie opens on March 15th, 2013.

Kimberly Pierce Thinks You Should See This ‘Carrie’ Fan Poster

Carrieland40312 Kimberly Pierce Thinks You Should See This Carrie Fan Poster

We don’t normally report on fan-made posters here, but director Kimberly Pierce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop Loss) has given the thumbs up to this fan poster for her upcoming remake of Carrie starring Chloe Moretz. Clearly, she’s jazzed to be taking on the film. Some outlets have reported that Pierce herself made this poster, but we don’t believe that to be the case.

The story centers on “Carrie White, who is raised by a nightmarish religious fanatic mother, and comes to grip with devastating telepathic powers just as she reaches puberty. She eventually uses those gifts for lethal means when fellow classmates use the prom as an excuse to humiliate her before the entire school in a parable about bullying.

Sissy Spacek played the character in the first movie, with Piper Laurie playing her mother, and Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, John Travolta, Betty Buckley and William Katt rounding out the cast. Both Spacek and Laurie got Oscar nominations for their work in the 1976 film.

What do you think? Does this poster get you stoked for Moretz as Carrie? Or could you do without? READ MORE

New 60 Second ‘Dark Shadows’ TV Spot Makes You Cry Uncle!

New 60 Second Dark Shadows TV Spot Makes You Cry Uncle!

Okay, Dark Shadows we know you exist! I’m actually not down on the movie – aside from he lame Alice Cooper joke – I have no real beef with any of the bus ads, character posters, standees, teasers, teasers for trailers, trailer, or TV spots. I’m actually kind of looking forward to this even though I’ve hated the last few Tim Burton films. But I’d say there’s a lot of awareness, wouldn’t you? Give those trailer cutters a break WB!

Remember just a few short weeks ago when we were worried that there might never be a trailer for Dark Shadows? How quaint those days seem now as we’re drowning in a deluge of footage. For my money though, this still looks way better than Alice In Wonderland. Tim Burton’s latest arriving in theaters May 11. The original followed the life of vampire Barnabas Collins, played by Johnny Depp in the rehash, and his run-ins with various monsters, ghosts, and supernatural creatures.

Meet The Teens Responsible For ‘Carrie’s Vengeance

Meet The Teens Responsible For Carries Vengeance

Bloody Disgusting did a little digging into the forthcoming remake of Carrie, which will feature Chloe Moretz in the title role, and Kimberly Peirce behind the camera.

With shooting slated for this coming June in Toronto, casting is under way for the ensamble that will push Carrie to the brink of madness, and ultimately to the death of hundreds of students.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa penned the MGM/Screen Gems reboot that’s an adaptation of the Stephen King thriller about the hyperkinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students.

We’ve learned of the four main “teen” roles that surround CARRIE, beginning with SUE SNELL, a popular senior who struggles to become a better person after being part of a cruel bullying incident. Her redemption, and self-inflicted punishment, comes in that she will skip prom and instead send her boyfriend with Carrie. This leads to Sue having to confront Carrie in the big finale.

Supporting characters include CHRIS HARGENSEN, another senior who’s called the baddest and sexiest girl in school. Her character is insanely rich (dad’s a lawyer) and acts like an entitled brat. She manipulates everyone around her with her sexy charm, including her boyfriend BILL NOLAN, who is a high school dropout. He’s also one of the main antagonists who unleashes Carrie’s fury. Lastly, they’re casting TONNY ROSS, the popular jock character who takes Carrie to the prom, falls in love with her and accidentally sets the destruction in motion. READ MORE

It’s incredibly rare when I have a different reaction to a TV spot than I did with the original trailer. Frankly, I don’t recall it ever happening.

Warner Brothers used the NCAA tournament to unload their first Dark Shadows commercial, one that carries quite a bit of different footage than the film’s recently released trailer. In fact, it made me excited to see Tim Burton’s latest, which arrives in theaters May 11.

Wow. Casting for the lead in Sony/MGM’s remake of Stephen King’s Carrie is down to two very different choices. Chloe Grace Moretz (pictured above; Kick Ass, Let Me In) and Haley Bennett (pictured below; Lawless).

Per Vulture, “now we’re told the field has narrowed to two main contenders: the 15-year-old Chloë Moretz (Kick-Ass) and the 24-year-old Haley Bennett… we also hear that earlier this week, The Descendants’ Shailene Woodley passed on an offer from MGM to take the title role.” Apparently Jodie Foster has been offered the role of Carrie’s mother but there’s no word yet on if she’ll do it.

Tim Burton’s vampire version of Austin Powers?

We’ve also just added the official one-sheet and proper version of the trailer, both of which are a bit hokey. I’m nervous that the film is trickling into “pop culture” territory with their (near) modern-day comedy. This could go very badly…

Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows could either be a glorious return to form or an even deeper retreat into his hermetically sealed safety zone. I haven’t been a fan of much of his recent work, but sometimes people needs to crank out a few duds before they remember why they loved making films in the first place.

So while the emerging imagery of Depp as Collins looks pretty cool, it also looks like standard Burton. Aesthetically, we know that’s what this movie will be. Let’s just hope the storytelling portion of his skill set is reinvigorated.
