Trailer For ‘Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones’ Skirts The Horror Line

Well, Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, certainly looks like a more horror-centric take on the post Harry Potter YA studio movie. The new trailer from MTV actually looks alright to me, not necessarily my thing but I’d probably be fine with seeing it.

Directed by Harald Zwart for Sony Screen Gems, “When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

Two More Joins Supernatural ‘Mortal Instruments’

Kevin Durand (pictured; Devil’s Knot, Cosmopolis) and Robert Maillet (Sherlock Holmes, 300, Pacific Rim, Immortals) are set to join the cast of Screen Gems and Constantin Films The Mortal Instruments, saus Variety. Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower also star in the pic helmed by Harald Zwart.

Based on Cassandra Clare’s bestselling young adult book series, “the story follows Clary Fray, a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers she is the descendent of a demon-hunting clan called Shadowhunters.” Durand and Maillet will play Pangborn and Blackwell, an antagonist duo in the pic.

Unique Features’ Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne optioned the series in 2009. The Unique duo will produce with Robert Kulzer, while Dylan Sellers will exec produce with Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz. READ MORE

[News Bites] ‘Predestination’ Art, ‘Mortal Instruments’ & “Knifeman” Casting Updates

Oscar nominee Tim Roth (“Lie To Me”) has signed on to star in Media Rights Capital’s TV series project “Knifeman,” reports Deadline. The great David Cronenberg is set to direct the pilot and executive produce the series, which “Centers on John Tattersall (Roth), a radical, self-educated surgeon who will go to unorthodox lengths to uncover the secrets of the human body.” The straight-to-series project, which is expected to be taken out to networks shortly, was written by Emmy-nominated writer-producer Rolin Jones (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Weeds”) from a story by Jones and Ron Fitzgerald (“Friday Night Lights,” “Weeds”).

Twitch was the first to discover the below sales art to Predestination, a sci-fi thriller with a horror twist to be directed by the The Spierig Brothers (Daybreakers, Undead). Ethan Hawk will star in the flick described as “A riveting adventure through time centered on a secret government time traveling agency designed to prevent future killers and terrorists from committing their crimes. ‘Predestination’ chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to ensure the continuation of his law enforcement career for all eternity. ‘Legion’ Director Goes Demon Hunting in ‘City of Bones’

Some last second news before the weekend as Lily Collins (The Blind Side) has been set to star in City of Bones, the first installment of the “Mortal Instruments” book series which is being directed by Scott Charles Stewart (Priest, Legion) for Screen Gems. She’ll play the role of Clary Fray. City of Bones tells the story of a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers she is the descendant of a demon-hunting clan called Shadowhunters.
