Like Hellraiser? More specifically the first two films in the series? Then you may be in luck since Variety is reporting that Sonar Entertainment (previously RHI Entertainment) is developing “Hellraiser” for the small screen along with some of the franchise’s early principal players.

Per Variety “Sonar is co-developing with Eric Gardner’s Panacea Ent. “Hellraiser,” a TV series based on the cult British horror franchise. Gardner will exec produce along with Larry Kuppin, whose company New World Entertainment is behind the first two ‘Hellraiser’ pics.”

Sonar announced, “One of the most successful (and terrifying) franchises in film history is ready for its weekly television debut. For over 25 years, fans have followed the exploits of an insidious villain named Pinhead, summoned from a nightmarish underworld by an ancient puzzle box. He will seduce you with power and tempt you with fear, until your soul belongs to him.
Now, for the first time, a weekly series set in the fantastic realm of Hellraiser will thrill audiences worldwide.”

There’s no word on a network yet, not that there needs to be since the series isn’t actually in production yet. Still… could be cool for you Hellraiser fans if it ever comes to fruition. Either way it can’t be worse than the last movie. READ MORE

TV: Clive Barker Developing Nightbreed Series!

While we dream of getting an uncut director’s edit of Clive Barker’s 1990 Nightbreed on Blu-ray, the artist/writer-turned-director reveals on his website that a TV series is in the works!

“We are also actively in conversation about doing a ‘Nightbreed’ television series which will be for cable, so it will have a chance to be as sexy or as graphic in terms of the violence as we need it to be,” says Barker. “For example, do you have Spartacus over there? Oh my God, it redefines gruesome… I also applaud them for finally realising it’s not a bad thing to see a manhood once in a while – it’s not as if half the world doesn’t see it daily…”

Barker continues, “The sensitivity of our culture has sort of caught up with Nightbreed. I don’t wish to be immodest, but the general sense is that the movie failed because people didn’t want to associate with the monster and I think our culture has changed – I think our culture is now ready to embrace the ambiguity. You’ve only got to look at Twilight where obviously the monsters are the good guys – I’m not a huge fan but I’m enough of a fan to watch and see monsters being celebrated.”

The original was set in the Canadian wilderness where the search is on for a serial killer and an ancient tribe of monsters called the night-breed. READ MORE

Clive Barker has only laid his hands on Hellraiser three times. The first was when he put his pen down to craft the original story, The Hellbound Heart, the second was to write and direct the first film, and this gem of a series is the third. There have been loads of garbage sequels, nothing coming even close to Barker’s initial groundbreaking vision. This comic is, in many ways, Barker’s apology to fans for all the trash they had to endure over the years. Barker and Monfette weave magic through the pages together in order to explore Pinhead and the Cenobites in a completely new way, while Thompson’s art duties are to die for. Sure, there may be a realm that transcends the boundary between pain and pleasure, but this one is pure pleasure. With a new arc having just begun last month, things are just beginning. This week marks the second coming of DC’s New 52! Last week the anticipation finally ended and we can rest assured knowing that there are great comics coming out of the initially mixed-emotion reboot. Highlights from last week’s crop were Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Detective Comics, Action Comics, and Batwing. These bad boys are already selling out all over the world, even showing up on ebay going for more than a strand of Alex Trebek’s long lost moustache. It couldn’t be a better time to be a comic enthusiast.

Obviously there are loads of other comics coming out this week from other publishers, but in honor of such a milestone event, most of the books in this week’s COMICS TO FEAST ON are from DC’s New 52 lineup. Now I know you won’t be buying all 52 new series so let us know which books you can’t wait for!

With the ever-increasing number of books coming out between the tie-ins, the crossovers, and the new series, we’ve got to limit our list of comics for the week somehow. Rather than focus on every major comic hitting the shelves I’ll narrow it down to ten books that stand out from the rest. Back in 1986 horror author and artist Clive Barker set the world afire with his novella “The Hellbound Heart” which introduced Pinhead to the horror universe. By 1987 he was behind-the-camera directing the infamous Hellraiser that has since spawned several sequels. While Barker had worked briefly on Dimension Films’ remake, he has absolutely nothing to do with Hellraiser: Revelations, which arrives in limited theaters and VOD September 1.

In fact, he’s starting to get agitated by his Twitter followers who think he is…

“Hello,my friends. I want to put on record that the flic out there using the word Hellraiser IS NO FUCKIN’ CHILD OF MINE!” he screams via Twitter. “I have NOTHING to do with the fuckin’ thing. If they claim its from the mind of Clive Barker,it’s a lie. It’s not even from my butt-hole.”

Victor Garcia directed the new incarnation of Cenobites from a screenplay by SFX guru Gary Tunnicliffe. Steven Brand plays the new Pinhead.

Studios it would be easy to shrug off the series as just another haphazard attempt to bring back a classic horror icon in the illustrated form only to disappoint fans everywhere.
