Joseph Gordon-Levitt Takes Big Role In ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’!

Surprise! Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper, 50/50) will be taking a lead role in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Per Deadline he will “play the role of Johnny, a part that the filmmakers originally offered to Johnny Depp. He’s one of the core characters in overlapping story lines…” I kind of hope they change his name to “Joey” or something so we won’t always be reminded that he wasn’t the first choice for the part.

He joins Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Jaime King, Rosario Dawson, Michael Madsen, Jessica Alba, Jamie Chung and Dennis Haysbert in the film currently being co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.

In theaters October 4, the film is about Dwight McCarthy planing to have his vengeance against the woman who betrayed him, Ava Lord, while Nancy is trying to cope with Hartigan’s death.

RoboCop

About All This ‘RoboCop’ Business…

There’s a lot of chatter today regarding some comments director Jose Padilha supposedly made about MGM’s remake of Robocop. Comments (via Screen Crush) that would indicate the film is in some trouble. The only problem is that they’re completely out of context.

Padilha reportedly confided in fellow filmmaker Fernando Meirelles (City Of God) and Meirelles turned around and spoke with South American web site Cinemacom Rapadura. He said, “I talked to José Padilha for a week by phone. He will begin filming Robocop. He is saying that it is the worst experience. For every 10 ideas he has, 9 are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight. “This is hell here,” he told me. “The film will be good, but I never suffered so much and do not want to do it again.” He is bitter, but it’s a fighter.

It’s worth mentioning that this quote had to be translated from Portugese into English (something Screen Crush acknowledges). It’s also not from Padilha himself so I think it’s a bit premature for everyone – lots of sites have picked this up and reported it with varying degrees of armchair doomsday rhetoric – to be ringing the death knell here. No one knows what the tone of this conversation was. I have no vested interest in this either way. I’m not even particularly convinced that a remake of RoboCop is a good idea at all. I just don’t think that this kind of interview means anything one way or the other. Also – of course it’s stressful! This is a big budget studio remake, they’re not known as beacons of light for the creative process. Head inside for more… READ MORE

Four Clips Tell The Tale Of ‘Intruders’ Creature Hollow Face

intruders081511 Four Clips Tell The Tale Of Intruders Creature Hollow Face

In theaters March 30, we’ve just now added four new clips from Millennium Entertainment’s Intruders, a flick we caught it at last September’s TIFF and was not a fan (read the review).

Starring Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice Van Houten, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero and Kerry Fox, the supernatural thriller was directed by 28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

Though no one can see him, Hollow Face lurks in the corners, desperately desiring love but only knowing how to spread fear and hate. He creeps into the life of John Farrow (Clive Owen) after Farrow’s beloved 13-year-old daughter Mia (Ella Purnell) is assaulted in their home. The line between the real and the imaginary blurs as fissures start to open within the family unit. It seems that no security measure can keep Hollow Face out.READ MORE

Millennium Entertainment has provided Bloody with the official theatrical poster for Intruders, the super weak genre film arriving in theaters March 30. ‘Oldboy’ Pushed (Again), Clive Owen Exits Negotiations

Oldboy112811 Oldboy Pushed (Again), Clive Owen Exits Negotiations

Variety’s Jeff Sneider hit Twitter today with an update from the land of insect.

He explained that Universal was pushing back Spike Lee’s Oldboy late summer/early fall because of Josh Brolin’s press commitments for Men in Black 3.

He also broke the disappointing news that Clive Owen is no longer attached, stating, “Don’t think they could make the deal work…

‘Oldboy’ centers on a man (Brolin) who is kidnapped on his daughter’s birthday and held for 15 years in solitary confinement without explanation. He is eventually released and sets out on a path to take revenge on those who destroyed his life.

The film is a remake of Park Chan-wook’s incredible Korean film, which was based on a Japanese manga of the same name written by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya. READ MORE

Another Round Of Offers For ‘Oldboy’ Remake

Another round of offers have gone out for roles in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake as Twitch reports that Mia Wasikowska (Stoker, Alice in Wonderland) has been offered the role of Marie, the female lead of the gritty thriller. The role was previously offered to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara. They also report that that the villain role has now been offered to Clive Owen (Shoot ‘Em Up, Intruders) after Colin Firth passed.

If they accept they will be playing opposite Josh Brolin in the lead as a man imprisoned against his will and with no explanation for years before he is released and sets out to find and take revenge on his captor.

Many names have been tossed around, so hopefully things will be finalized setting up a shoot early in 2012. READ MORE

Evil Turns to Ash in Italian ‘Intruders’ One Sheet

One of the worst films I’ve seen in 2011 is 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s (unintentionally) faux supernatural horror film Intruders (review), which premiered at the TIFF this past September.

Starring Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice Van Houten, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero, and Kerry Fox, the story centers on an 11-year-old girl who is forced to confront childhood demons.

While Millennium Entertainment is releasing here in the States next April, Italy gets it this September while it’s already burning people’s eyes in Spain. Check out the italian one sheet after the break. It pretty much says it all (it looks like Constantine a bit).

[Review] TIFF ’11: Psychological Horror ‘Intruders’ Falls Flat On Its Face

Directed by 28 Weeks Later‘s Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and starring Clive Owen, I thought Universal’s creature feature was going to be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, Intruders makes the same mistakes as dozens before it, a third act that may as well been “all a dream.”

What begins as a masterfully crafted creature feature ultimately falls flat on its face knocking out all of its teeth…If you’re able to overlook a sh*t finale, and over used CGI, ‘Intruders’ is still a pretty OK film loaded with some freaky imagery and ghostly attack scenes. It’s sort of a psychological fairy tale that may deliver enough punches for a home video audience.

Lots of Stills of Clive Owen Standing Around in ‘Intruders’

An image gallery has finally been released for 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s Intruders. The film, arriving in Spanish theaters October 7, looks like a cross between The Strangers and The Last Exorcism.

Fresnadillo’s psychological horror revolves around an 11 year-old girl (Never Let Me Go‘s Ella Purnell) dealing with the childhood demons that reappear to spook the heck out of her and her family. Clive Owen stars as her father, alongside Kerry Fox, Carice van Houten and Daniel Brühl. Intruders is written by Nicolás Casariego and Jaime Marques.

What’s Already Inside Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s ‘Intruders’ Trailer!

The good folks over at Empire have just premiered the trailer for 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s Intruders.

While the trailer is crappy quality, and the audio appears to be off, the imagery is quite striking and makes me think this is a cross between The Strangers and The Last Exorcism (the handheld work is pretty strong).

First Look at Clive Owen in Clive Owen Starrer ‘Intruders’

Last year Universal Pictures quietly went into production on Intruders, 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s horror flick that centers on an 11-year-old girl who is forced to confront childhood demons.

Starring Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice Van Houten, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero, and Kerry Fox, those were the only details given.

Out of the Malaga Spanish Film Festival where Fresnadillo put the trailer on display, he recently told THR: “The film centers on the origin of the monsters that are born in childhood and are passed on by the family. Clive looks like a normal man, even heroic, who has a range that can take him to do the dark side and allows him to travel the entire trajectory of the character.

While Uni has yet to release anything here in the States, inside you’ll find a link to a few behind the scenes shots prepping for an October release in Spain. It’s also kind of funny to watch Fresnadillo “pose” in every image.

While that’s even a bit vague, it’s still better than nothing. I quite enjoyed 28 Weeks Later and am excited to see what else he can deliver.
