[AFM '12] SOLD! ‘Cockneys vs. Zombies,’ ‘Tower Block’ and ‘The Condemned’

Home entertainment group Shout! Factory has picked up U.K. horror film Cockneys vs. Zombies (pictured) for the U.S. and Canada and the suspense thriller Tower Block for the U.S. from SC Films, says The Hollywood Reporter. Shout! plans to bow the two features via VOD, electronic-sell-through and on DVD in 2013. The company said it is also planning a platform theatrical release and has secured U.S. television rights for the films. In addition, Strand Releasing has acquired all North American rights to Roberto Busó-García’s The Condemned (Los Condenados) and is in negotiations to license the U.S. TV rights to the film to HBO. Strand is planning a spring 2013 release for the thriller about a haunted mansion that was filmed in Puerto Rico.

The Condemned stars Cristina Rodlo as an heiress who plans to restore the mansion in her father’s memory only to discover that the mansion’s past is returning to haunt the surrounding town and its residents. The film also stars René Monclova, Daisy Granados, Marisé Álvarez and José Caro.

Directed by Matthias Hoene, Cockneys vs. Zombies stars Brit actors Harry Treadaway and Rasmus Hardiker as two clueless cockney brothers who plot to rob a bank in order to help save their grandfather’s old age home. But a strange virus is sweeping across East London, turning residents into zombies. The brothers band together to fight off the hordes of the undead and try and rescue the old folks.

Tower Block is a high-concept thriller directed by James Nunn and Ronnie Thompson in which the residents of a London tower block, all silent witnesses to a murder, become the target of a sniper, who begins picking them off one by one. READ MORE

The 8th annual Fantastic Fest has passed the halfway point of its 8-day reign of chaos in Austin, Texas. The sci/fi, fantasy, martial arts, Asian fantastic, and horror film festival offers up a little something for all genre lovers.

It is my duty to bring you the most horror and/or horror-related film reviews possible. With less than 20 feature films considered to be true horror, I will occasionally spotlight other non-horror films that will, hopefully, appeal to our readers here at Bloody Disgusting.

Be sure to be on the lookout in Austin, Texas from October 25-27, 2013, for my very own Housecore Horror Film Festival. I will be joined by my partner, former Pantera lead singer and heavy metal legend Philip H. Anselmo. We will be bringing 100% horror and heavy metal to the Lone Star state!
