Third ‘Fright Night’ Trailer Pushes Dark Angle

Dreamworks continues an onslaught of press for Fright Night 3D with a third trailer that once again pushes the darker side of the vampire lore. Directed by Craig Gillespie for release on August 19, the remake to Tom Holland’s classic embraces its R-rating, and has been hoping to gain the attention of Twilight haters.

Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right–but everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

‘Fright Night’ Vampire “The Shark From ‘Jaws’ “

In the following new clip from Dreamworks’ Fright Night 3D Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) scoffs at best friend ‘Evil’ Ed Thompson’s (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) suggestion that his neighbor is “like the shark from Jaws.” It takes a jab at Twilight, which I guess is their way of proclaiming they’re an R-rated horror film.

New ‘Fright Night’ TV Spot Shows Some Teeth

Wow, there’s Twilight jokes in the new TV spot for Craig Gillespie’s Fright Night remake. If the film is filled with cheap shots and obvious humor like that, then that R-rating everyone is championing as a sign of faith is going to be for naught. Check past the break for new spot, which also features some pyrotechnic wizardry and vampire fx.

Anton Yelchin stars as Charlie Brewster, a high school senior who’s on top of the world — that is until Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door and Charlie discovers that he is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. The remake drops on August 19 in (sigh) 3D.

“Evil” Ed Highlights New ‘Fright Night’ Images

There’s literally one one reason I want to see Dreamworks’ Fright Night 3D, and that’s to witness Christopher Mintz-Plasse as the new “Evil” Ed Thompson. I’m curious to see what they do with him, and if he’s able to take the role to the same dark place that Stephen Geoffreys did in Tom Holland’s 1985 original.

A slew of new images have been released that feature Mintz-Plasse, Colin Farrell as the neighbor “Jerry” and Anton Yelchin looking like he’s come straight out of the direct-to-disc Lost Boys sequels (cheese ba-bomb!!) Click the still below for the gallery.

Meet the Intense Peter Vincent in ‘Fright Night 3D’

The boys over at io9 have landed two exclusive images from Dreamworks’ Fright Night 3D, which is having its world premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con this month (it’s so comic related, right?) Said images feature David Tennant, who was cast as Peter Vincent in the remake. But instead of playing a doddering but lovable host of a late-night horror show, Tennant is a Vegas magician who kills vampires when he’s not writhing about on stage in his horrible Criss Angel leather pants. We can not wait to watch Tennant start killing both fake stage vampires and real-life vampires (including Collin Farrell). You’ll get to see him in action when Craig Gillespie’s flick hits theaters on August 19.

I Hate These ‘Fright Night’ Character Posters

The international branch of Dreamworks has released a quartet of character posters for Fright Night 3D, their forthcoming remake of Tom Holland’s classic that arrives here in the States on August 19 (UK on September 2).

First, the one sheets look like a cross between a “True Blood” promotion and something MTV would release surrounding “Teen Wolf.” Second, does anybody give a lick that Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette or David Tennant star? Basically the images say nothing about the movie, and look more like cheesy collector’s cards from 1989 that came with a stale stick of gum than something professional.

A ‘Fright Night’ Shocker: MPAA Gives Redo an R-rating

We don’t typically post ratings as news stories, only when there’s something that actually comes as bit of a surprise. I would have bet the farm that a PG-13 rating was awaiting DreamWorks’ Fright Night 3D redo from director Craig Gillespie. Well I’ll be damned if I was wrong.

The MPAA has rated the 3-D horror flick “R” for “bloody horror violence and language including some sexual references.

Does the Trailer for ‘Fright Night 3D’ Bite?

Inside you’ll find the first official trailer for DreamWorks’ Fright Night 3D redo from director Craig Gillespie.

Most of the footage makes me want to take this Friday the 13th and enjoy the original classic from Tom Holland, while there are some things that intrigue me. Mostly, I’m curious as to how well the battle between Carlie (played by Anton Yelchin) and Jerry (Colin Farrell) will play out. As for scares, I think we’re in for a slew of “jumps” as the hand to the glass indicates (blah!) Sh*t, I may just watch Distrubia again instead….

Top Secret ‘Total Recall’ Cameo for Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers) is boarding Total Recall, Columbia Pictures’ Colin Farrell-starring remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie, reports Heat Vision. Hawke’s role is being kept secret and it is cameo in nature.

The original movie, based on the Philip K. Dick story, “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” followed a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air.

The new story ditches the Martian storyline and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side.

The movie has been casting up ahead of its June start in Toronto with Bryan Cranston playing the villain. Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel are still in negotiations for the female leads.

Kate Beckinsale Offered (Other) Lead in ‘Total Recall’

The ever so sexy Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, Whiteout, Van Helsing, Vacancy) – who would be part of my own person “Total Recall” – has been offered one of the female lead roles alongside Colin Farrell in the Sony Pictures remake Total Recall, reports Deadline who adds that she’s been offered to play Lori, who was portrayed in the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed actioner by Sharon Stone. She was an obvious choice considering her husband Len Wiseman is directing the pic. Duh.

Both that role and the role of Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin) has drawn high interest from actresses. The site adds that Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are the serious contenders for the latter role.

Dick story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” follows a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. Jessica Biel Offered Lead Role in ‘Total Recall’ Redo

After carousing a list of potential female leads, Variety is reporting that Sony Pictures may be close to landing Jessica Biel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Blade: Trinity) for one of two female leads for its Total Recall reboot.

Biel is circling a role opposite Colin Farrell in the pic. Sony has offered her the role but no discussions are underway. It’s unclear which role she would play.

In the original 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer, the femme leads were played by Sharon Stone, who played Lori, and Rachel Ticotin, who played Melina.

The film follows Douglas Quaid, a man who believes he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony where he fights to overthrow a ruler controlling the production of air.

There was early buzz that Biel was going for the role of Melina but sources say there’s a chance she going for the other character.

Len Wiseman will direct the latest version, with Farrell stepping into the Schwarzenegger role and Bryan Cranston attached to play the villain. James Vanderbilt penned the screenplay.

Based on a Philip K. Dick short story, the original pic was directed by Paul Verhoeven. It grossed more than $250 million at the worldwide box office.

Bryan Cranston Gets Villainous for ‘Total Recall’

Michael Ironside played “Richter” in the 1990 flick.

Dick story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” “follows a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. A Whole Lotta Hotties Read for ‘Total Recall’

Deadline is reporting that on a few major roles in Sony Pictures Total Recall remake, which Len Wiseman will direct with Colin Farrell starring in the role originated by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

That’s the role that really launched the star of Sharon Stone (who would star in Verhoeven’s Basic Instinct) and the site reports that Kate Bosworth and Inglourious BasterdsDiane Kruger are reading this week for that role.

There is also the role of “Melina,” which was originated by Rachel Ticotin, playing the woman who helps the protagonist get to the bottom of the futuristic scandal on Mars. Eva Mendes and Paula Patton are reading for that role. They add that Jessica Biel could also be in contention for Melina, Eva Green too, and that Mendes is also being considered for the Lori role.

Sony Purchases Colin Farrell’s Ticket to Mars for ‘Total Recall’

A couple weeks after the rumor hit the web, Sony has officially offered Colin Farrell the lead role in Columbia Pictures’ Total Recall remake. Farrell received the offer last week and has since been in negotiations with Sony. He would play a man tortured by recurring dreams of a trip to Mars, a role that was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original 1990 pic. Farrell, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender also had been considered for the role. The Total Recall reboot, to be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) from a script by Kurt Wimmer, will contemporize author Philip K. Dick’s source story, “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.” Farrell’s casting would help contemporize the pic, offering a stark contrast to Schwarzenegger’s persona. Farrell also stars as the lead vamp in Fright Night.
