Brea Grant Reteams With ‘Halloween Star Danielle Harris for ‘Among Friends’

Bloody Disgusting BC learned at the San Diego Comic-Con that Brea Grant ( Halloween II, “Heroes”) and Zak Bagans (“Ghost Adventures”) have both landed roles in Danielle Harris’ directorial, Among Friends, which was announced last week. Grant starred with Harris in Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel.

The screenplay was penned by Alyssa Lobit, who also wrote and played the lead character in the award winning film The Things We Carry. There’s no official synopsis yet but with a tagline like “This dinner party’s gonna be killer,” I’m praying that it’s a cross between Clue and Murder Party – the more it’s like the former, the better.

Chris Backus, Jennifer Blanc Biehn, AJ Bowen, Brianne Davis, Dana Daurey, Danielle Harris, Kamala Jones, Alyssa Lobit, Chris Meyer and Tanya Newbould previously signed on to star in the picture. The project is financed by production companies Three Little Birds and Hollywood Treasures Inc. Jay Lobit and Bill Allison are executive producers for Among Friends.

The film, currently in pre-production, is set to start shooting in early August.

The San Diego Comic-Con just got spooky as attendees were given flyers for a new business, Darren’s Timeless Memories, which will convert those pesky VHS and BETA into digital files for ya. Visiting the company’s official website will lead you on a viral journey that ends with the premiere of the first trailer for Paramount Pictures’ Paranormal Activity 3 (in theaters October 21).

Franchise creator and producer Oren Peli tells us that filming is currently underway and that it’s been a challenge making sure they do the fans right: “The challenge we are dealing with is to create same kind of dreaded feeling of terror and horror, while at the same time also [delivering] something fresh, different and unique,” he told Bloody Disgusting talking about creating “a new experience that delicately balances fear and originality. “ hoping fans will be pleasantly pleased.” This viral stunt is their way of giving the teaser directly to the fans, before theaters, and saying “thank you” for the continued support.

Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman came aboard this past May to direct from a screenplay by Christopher B. Landon (Disturbia).

Comic-Con ’11: CW Preems ‘Secret Circle’ Promo Spot

From the CW comes the first trailer for “The Secret Circle”, which premieres this fall on Thursdays at 9/8c.

Cassie Blake was a happy, normal teenage girl – until her mother Amelia dies in what appears to be a tragic accidental fire. Orphaned and deeply saddened, Cassie moves in with her warm and loving grandmother Jane in the beautiful small town of Chance Harbor, Washington – the town her mother left so many years before – where the residents seem to know more about Cassie than she does about herself. As Cassie gets to know her high school classmates, including sweet-natured Diana and her handsome boyfriend Adam, brooding loner Nick, mean-girl Faye and her sidekick Melissa, strange and frightening things begin to happen.

When her new friends explain that they are all descended from powerful witches, and they’ve been waiting for Cassie to join them and complete a new generation of the Secret Circle, Cassie refuses to believe them – until Adam shows her how to unlock her incredible magical powers. But it’s not until Cassie discovers a message from her mother in an old leather-bound book of spells hidden in her mother’s childhood bedroom, that she understands her true and dangerous destiny. What Cassie and the others don’t yet know is that darker powers are at play, powers that might be linked to the adults in the town, including Diana’s father and Faye’s mother – and that Cassie’s mother’s death might not have been an accident.

Comic-Con ’11: ‘Elysium’ Viral Building a Better Future

The one great thing about the growing popularity of the San Diego Comic-Con is that studios are pushing even harder on viral marketing campaigns. Comingsoon snapped a photo of a recruitment poster that ended up being courtesy of Sony Pictures for District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s mysterious Elysium, which stars Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Alice Braga and Diego Luna.

The viral poster leads you to Armadyne’s website that carries the below video seeking “zero g welders, mega-structure engineers [and] quantum networkers.” They also speak of “zero g coupling and multi-generational planning” for a project they hope to complete by 2097. The company is building a better world, with you. If anything, this promo viral reminds me of the T:3D ride at Universal Studios where Cyberdyne talks about their revolutionary future.

Now filming, Elysium will hit theaters on March 1, 2013.
