Review: ‘B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Return of the Master’ #1

After several weeks of waiting, I’m rather pleased that Dark Horse finally released a new issue in the “B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth” saga, The Return of the Master part 1. Thehe “Hell on Earth” event is starting to come to a head, and this issue shows that a lot more brooding trouble is on the way for the Bureau. “The Return of the Master” #1 contains some breakthrough plot advancements as well as a healthy supply of blood and violence, fitting in perfectly with the event. Review: It Ends Here ‘Valen the Outcast’ #8

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, the same applies to Valen the Outcast. The folks at Boom! deliver a non-stop, action-packed thrill ride in this 8th, and final installment of the Valen Brands’ undead journey to retrieve is soul. It’s not often that one empathizes with an undead monster but Valen is something special. While the conclusion is a bit dry, I wish there were more books like “Valen” on the market. READ MORE

What Comics Do You Want Adapted For The Big Screen?

Given the recent success of comic book summer blockbusters, and the current trend in Hollywood to reboot, remake, or adapt old material, it’s inevitable that we’ll be seeing more of our beloved comic books on the big screen. Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman” series has been in development several times over the years, a “Crawl to Me” film will be upon us soon, and, as per usual, FOX blew it by passing on the “Locke & Key” series. It’s clear that horror comics lend themselves to on-screen adaptations. The question is, which books do you actually want to see on the big screen? READ MORE

Preview: Does Anyone Even Care: ‘True Blood’ Ongoing #1

Let’s be honest, True Blood has gone down hill. It’s the TV equivalent of Camus’ Sisyphus, trying so hard to get to the top again, only to fall hopelessly down the other side. That said, there’s still a huge fan base for the show and the “Sookie Stackhouse” novels so perhaps this is a smart move by IDW. This week brings on the first ish of the new ongoing series, where you’ll be greeted by some familiar faces. If you care, you can check out the preview after the break, just look at those dreamy eyes! READ MORE

Mark Waid To Write ‘Steed And Mrs Peel’ Comic From Boom! Studios This Summer

Boom! Studios sent out a teaser image today (see below), stating something about “the original Avengers” and Mark Waid. Truth be told I had no idea what it meant until I did some research. Luckily, Bleeding Cool is more hip to the 1960s TV scene than us. Turns out Waid will be writing a “Steed And Mrs Peel” comic based on the classic british sci-fi/espionage show, The Avengers. Could It Be? Dynamite To Resurrect Evil Ernie With Jesse Blaze Snider And Jason Craig

Dynamite Entertainment has kept somewhat tight lipped about the upcoming re-launch of the classic Chaos Comics characters, including the upcoming Evil Ernie series. Jesse Blaze Snider (Muppets, Toy Story) has been confirmed to be writing the EVIL ERNIE reboot for quite some time, but announcements have been made with regards to an artist.

Bloody-Disgusting did some creeping around and found a tweet from artist Jason Craig (ReAnimator, Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash) that reads, “Starting my morning before 6am on a Saturday to kick some ass on the new EVIL ERNIE relaunch with a kick ass script from @tweetjesse”. That Is Not Dead Which Can Eternal Lie: An Homage To Lovecraft Comics

Today, March 15th, is the 75th anniversary of the death of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, one of the true fathers of horror fiction. It’s no secret that Lovecraft’s eerie tales have influenced horror writers across the board for decades, and we constantly see his themes cropping all over the comics world.

Lovecraft’s is responsible for many invaluable aspects of contemporary horror from the Cthulhu mythos to the Necronomicon to the genre of cosmic horror itself. It’s safe to say that without him, horror would not be what it is today. The sheer volume of comics out there that still address themes introduced by Lovecraft allow him to live on after death. In honor of his death day, we’ve put together a list of some of the best Lovecraftian comics around. Read on for the skinny…
