Angel & Faith Meet A Celeb Vampire

The surprisingly fun Angel & Faith continues next week with issue #5 and the teen melo-vamp-drama can only go up from here. Perhaps when the series began a few months back, readers had their doubts as to whether an Angel and Faith comic would really satisfy anyone. It’s clear now that this series is better than anyone could have imagined. It’s fun, it’s whimsical, and it includes vampires without trying to be “the next big thing”. Any fan of Angel or Buffy will dig this book. Check the preview after the jump.

[Review] Criminal Macabre Omnibus: Volume 2

The mayhem continues in the imaginative mind of Steve Niles, and once again, it does not cease to amaze. In volume 2 of Criminal Macabre Omnibus, heroic douche-waffle Cal McDonald’s adventures with the bizarre continue, with his ghoulish comrade, Mo’ Lock, a safe distance behind. Omnibus is a trade novel that gathers Criminal Macabre Volumes 4-6, the one-shot Feat of Clay, “The Creepy Tree” and “The Trouble with Brains” (originally featured on MySpace Dark Horse Presents), and “Hairball” from Dark Horse Presents, which is, according to DarkHorse.com, “In color for the first time!” Read on for the skinny…

[Review] The Strain #1

The Strain is based on a series of vampire novels written by none other than the cinematic master Guillermo del Toro, and Chuck Hogan. Anyone who knows del Toro’s work knows his love for horror comics, and it’s about time one of his works were adapted to comics. Fittingly so, David Lapham takes the honors of adapting the tale with Mike Huddleston by his side on art duties. The story begins in the past as an old grandmother tells her grandson the tall tale of a spooky giant who will come to get him if he doesn’t eat his greens, swiftly switching right into the present. Somehow, some way, the past and present are interconnected, and some age-old evil is about to show its heinous face. A vampire story from the mind of del Toro that mixes folklore into the present day; sounds like a winner, right? Well, it reads like one too. Read on for the skinny…

Wells, who is hot off the press with his work on The Avenging Spider-Man, teams up with Clayton Crain to revive the maniacal Carnage and bring some real terror into the lives of those innocent townsfolk. [Review] Mark L. Miller’s Debut Comic, ‘Luna: Order of the Werewolf’ #1

For the last year or so, the realm of horror monsters has wandered into weaker territory. Some of the concepts of the modern monster have grown a bit weary. With the same ideas being recycled repeatedly, the monster subgenre had seemed to reach a plateau. Now, however, brand-new concepts are wriggling out of the woodwork every month. One of these new creations is a fresh take on werewolves written by Mark L. Miller and Martin Fisher, entitled Luna: Order of the Werewolf. Read on for the skinny…

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – ‘Animal Man’ #2

Last month’s ish of Animal Man was probably the biggest shock of the DC relaunch, and hands down, one of the best new books. Lemire’s talent shines through once again to bring us an exceedingly disturbing tale about Buddy Baker’s life as a superhero that people don’t seem to take seriously. Now that his family is involved in the mess of things, it seems he will have no choice but to revert back to his A-Man uni and give in to the mysterious force known as “The Red”. The first issue was a wonderful introduction to the character, horrifying, and had one of the best cliffhanger endings of the year. Foreman’s distinctive art style only adds to the genius and terror of the book. Lemire and Foreman’s modernized vision of Animal Man is everything we need in contemporary comics. [FEATURE] Montreal ComicCon 2011!

This past weekend kicked off Montreal Comiccon (that’s in Canada), and it was without a doubt the biggest and best in it’s brief six-year history. Though the convention is fairly new, the 15,000 attendees, the massive list of celebrities (including Mr. Stan Lee himself), and the stunning exhibitions speak volumes. Though the event is no Sand Diego ComicCon, it continues to progress towards new heights each year, and deserves some attention. As with most Cons, there was not much groundbreaking news revealed however, there were some incredible highlights from the weekend including panels from Gail Simone, Adam West, the legendary Neal Adams, and many more that you can check out after the jump. ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ Trailers Burns Rubber!

Nicolas Cage returns as Johnny Blaze in Columbia Pictures’ and Hyde Park Entertainment’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which arrives in a blazing flurry on February 17, 2012.

The first trailer just premiered and it’s going to ignite your excitement. Not only does it look like a major step up from the previous piece of crap, but Ghost Rider himself looks absolutely amazing. I really dig the charcoal look. It makes me want to go grill a burger or five.

In the successor to the worldwide hit ‘Ghost Rider,’ Johnny – still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter – is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciaran Hinds). At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy – and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Screenplay by Scott M. Gimple & Seth Hoffman and David S. Goyer.
