[Album Review] Puscifer ‘Donkey Punch The Night EP’

Singer Maynard James Keenan seems to have found a very happy, comforting second home in the form of Puscifer. A project that is challenging and inventive, Puscifer satisfies needs, emotions, and sounds that Tool is unable to provide. And while we all wait for a fifth Tool album, there is something to be said about the investment and energy that Keenan invests into Puscifer.

I’ve made it quite clear that I was never a fan of the first Puscifer release, V Is For Vagina but also how I was completely won over by Conditions Of My Parole. Now I’ve been presented with a new EP entitled Donkey Punch The Night Away. With two new tracks, two covers and three remixes, it’s an interesting beast, one that took more than a few spins to really understand and appreciate. Join me below for my full thoughts. READ MORE

[Review] Puscifer Conditions Of My Parole
For as big a Tool and A Perfect Circle fan as I am, I just could not enjoy Puscifer’s V Is For Vagina. As a matter of fact, I flat out couldn’t stand it. So, when Conditions Of My Parole was announced, I met the news with a healthy dose of skepticism and, I’ll admit it, scorn. My interest became piqued when Maynard described it as “Twin Peaks in the desert”. Well, I just so happen to love Twin Peaks, so I found myself becoming more and more curious about the album. When Man Overboard came out, I couldn’t believe it. What a great song! I loved the feel, the atmosphere, the flow, the whole damn thing! Why, with this song, the whole album has to be just as good…right? Check after the jump for my answer.

Tool’s Maynard James Keenan Releases New Puscifer Track

Maynard James Keenan, the reclusive frontman of Tool, has released a new song from his side project Puscifer. The track, Man Overboard, is described by Keenan as “…Twin Peaks in the desert.” I’ll be 100% honest and say that I hated the first Puscifer album. However, I’m loving the sound of this song and if it is any indication of what to expect from the upcoming album, Conditions Of My Parole, I’m all in. Anybody with me on that?
