Review: ‘House Of Gold & Bones’ #2

With its premise already established, House Of Gold & Bones #2 pushes the narrative forward and focuses on its central protagonist. In his musical crossover to comics, Stone Sour’s Corey Taylor offers readers an nightmarish underbelly, which is quite appealing in the artwork. This is a thrilling read about the gripping fear of the unknown. READ MORE

[Exclusive Interview] Stone Sour’s Corey Taylor On His Comic Writing Debut In ‘House of Gold & Bones’

Corey Taylor is a man that never sleeps. In addition to being the front man for the metal juggernaut, Slipknot, Taylor also is the singer for hard rock outfit Stone Sour. He tours relentlessly throughout the year and when he is not on the road he is in the studio working on new music. His creative muse never rests and he has created some of the most memorable hard rock and heavy metal records of the past few decades.

When it came time to put together a new Stone Sour record, Taylor was inspired to write a short story that was eventually used as the basis for the group’s new 2-album concept record, House Of Gold & Bones Part 1 & 2. The story lent itself to be turned into some blistering hard rock.

Taylor is a lifelong comic book fan and has professed his love for the medium in countless interviews. With the prose narrative for “House Of Gold & Bones” already written, Taylor decided that the story leant itself to be adapted into comic book form. After pitching the book to a couple publishers Dark Horse Comics stepped in and helped Taylor bring the idea to fruition. READ MORE

Stone Sour have released a 30-second snippet of the song “A Rumor Of Skin”, which comes off their upcoming album A House Of Gold & Bones Part 1 (out Oct. 22nd via Roadrunner Records). You can hear the snippet below.

While I’m a fan of the dissonantly harmonized and filthy guitar tone at the beginning of the sample, the vocals quickly became overbearing and the song turned into something very radio-friendly. Perhaps the whole is better than the part? Hmm…. READ MORE

[Special Feature] Music As Rebellion In The Youth Feat. Corey Taylor

Written by Bloody-Disgusting music contributor Sammy Key

Music is kind of like Four Loko. There are a bunch of different flavors and teenagers love it. It also shares the tendency to evoke this sort of statement out of people; “It was better back in the day though, when I first had it,” (you know, before they took out all the caffeine). It’s true, these days it seems like music, or at least popular music, has lost its edge entirely. Gone are the days of sneaking records with “Parental Advisory/Explicit Content” plastered across the cover into your room and the days of mindlessly singing along to the latest saccharine sweet single while your mom drives you home from school are in full swing. Where is all the door slamming? Where are all the secret shows? It used to be that songs on the radio carried some sort of message, but now all I hear are lyrics about whips, b*tches, peacocks and all other sorts of bizarre metaphors for genitalia. And that’s if there are even words at all! Half of that sh*t is all “wobble” these days (whatever that is). Rebellion seems to have fizzled out, and in its place a taste for countless remixes, “womps”, and repetitive, dirty lyrics has grown. But no one bats an eyelash. It just seems like the passion, the demand for excellence has died. It’s like the teen masses have lost their will to act out, at least when it comes to music. These days, we sure as hell aren’t your stepping stone. But we’re not likely to make a hit single out of that sentiment either. READ MORE

Stone Sour Unveil Details For ‘House Of Gold And Bones Pt. 1′

Hard rock band Stone Sour has released details for their upcoming album House Of Gold And Bones Pt. 1 including the full track list (see below), release date (Oct. 23rd), and the final album artwork (which is nice and creepy!). The second album will be coming out in 2013.

Guitarist Josh Rand states, “House of Gold & Bones takes everything that’s great about this band and amplifies it. The riffs, the lyrics, the grooves and the songs are like Stone Sour times 10. There’s also heavy stuff that’s like nothing we’ve ever done before. It’s dark as hell and a complete experience from the first track to the last.”

Singer Corey Taylor (Slipknot) wrote the lyrics of both albums as a linear story, one that will take all 24 tracks to fully understand.

The band released the first two tracks, “Gone Sovereign” and “Absolute Zero”, online recently. Head below to hear them. READ MORE

Slipknot’s Corey Taylor Chats ‘The Raven’ With John Cusack

ARTISTDirect currently has a pretty amazing interview where Bloody-Disgusting favorite Rick Florino (author of the DOLOR series), gets to chat with both Slipknot/Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor and The Raven’s Edgar Allen Poe himself, John Cusack! The interview ranges from Taylor’s thoughts on the movie to Cusack chatting about when he first read Poe to (my personal favorite topic) how important music is to movies. Check out the interview here as well as the trailer below.

From V for Vendetta director James McTeigue , “The macabre and lurid tales of Edgar Allan Poe are vividly brought to life – and death – in this stylish, gothic thriller starring John Cusack as the infamous author. When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Poe’s darkest works, a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) joins forces with Poe in a quest to get inside the killer’s mind in order to stop him from making every one of Poe’s brutal stories a blood chilling reality. A deadly game of cat and mouse ensues, which escalates when Poe’s love (Alice Eve) becomes the next target.

The Raven is in theaters tomorrow, April 27th. READ MORE

Slipknot’s Corey Taylor And M. Shawn Crahan Shot In The Head?

livingbreathingfilmspaperlogo Slipknots Corey Taylor And M. Shawn Crahan Shot In The Head?
Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor and M. Shawn Crahan have released a short film entitled Thy Shalt I to promote their film production company Living Breathing Films. The short film depicts Corey and Shawn being bound, their heads covered with potato sacks, and walking through a dead forest. Let me reiterate: A LOT of walking. As thrilled as I am that two obvious horror fanatics are putting themselves into the film/TV world, this is not a good start. The shots are overly long with no real creative angles as well as unnecessary rehashing of previous footage. For a 15-minute film, it could easily have been trimmed down by at least half. Check it out for yourself below.

Can Slipknot Make Up Their Mind?

slipknotlivephoto Can Slipknot Make Up Their Mind?
In a recent interview with Kerrang! magazine, Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan stated that the band will be recording another album: “No one will push it, because it’s going to be a big one. It’ll be closer to ‘Iowa’, but it’ll be sadder and crazier. And really thought provoking, it could even be conceptual. We’re still taking some time to reflect on our brother [Paul Gray]. Everybody needs to be collecting thoughts so they can get it out and no one has really had time to collect thoughts yet. But we’re the fucking ‘KNOT. And when we come out, you’ll know your band is done.”
However, singer Corey Taylor has many times said that he is unsure if the band will record another album. In fact, speaking to the same magazine in August, Taylor said, “It’s still too soon. At least that’s how I feel. I’m not ready to make a Slipknot album.”
Guys, no offense, but you all need to get your story straight within your own camp before releasing conflicting stories. I’m all for a new Slipknot album but I need to see every member have the same energy and conviction as the other. Take your time, collect your thoughts, grieve, do what you need to do. Then come back and show me what you all can do. I know you’ve got it in you.
