Aaron Eckhart Toplines Lionsgate’s ‘I, Frankenstein’

Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, Battle: Los Angeles) will play “Adam Frankenstein” in the Lakeshore Entertainment, Hopscotch Features and Lionsgate production of I, Frankenstein, shooting this January in Australia.

The film was written and is to be directed by Stuart Beattie, and is based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, co-creator of the underworld franchise. Lionsgate will distribute the film in the United States with release already slated for February 22, 2013.

‘I, Frankenstein’ is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, Adam, has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

Writer/director, Stuart Beattie explains, “Mary Shelly’s story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.

Paranoia Spreads in Three ‘The Thing’ Clips, First Look at Creature!

Three new clips have just been posted on MySpace for Universal Pictures’ The Thing, the Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.-directed prequel to John Carpenter’s remake arriving in theaters October 14. Starring both Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton, the new footage features Winstead explaining that someone in the room may not be human, while the other has a flamethrower jammed in the face of Edgerton. A newly added third shows a creature escaping from a block of ice.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

New Hi-Res Imagery From French Ghoul Pic ‘The Pack’

Indomina Releasing will unleash French ghouls on DVD September 27 with Franck Richard’s The Pack (review), which will also hit VOD on a yet-to-be-determined date.

The pic follows Charlotte (Emilie Dequenne), a beautiful but rough around the edges kind of girl, who drives a beat-up station wagon in the countryside of northern France. Her journey takes a turn when she picks up a mysterious hitchhiker (Benjamine Biolay), with whom she strikes an unusual bond. Stopping at a roadside diner, her new companion strangely disappears, and Charlotte finds herself knocked unconscious and held captive. She soon encounters a peculiar and disturbed woman (Yolande Moreau), and discovers that her blood is being used to feed a “pack” of flesh-eating ghouls.

First Official ‘Sector 7′ Creature Pic Echoes Ripley, Queen Alien!

With images and trailers confirming an homage to James Cameron’s Aliens, a super clear monster image has made its way online from CJ Entertainment’s (The Host, Thirst, and many, many more) Korean creature feature Sector 7 (Mining Area 7) that echoes Ripley and the Queen Alien’s head-to-head battle.

Directed and produced by Kim Ji-hoon, the pic will be 3-D and is about a mutated creature runs amok in an oil prospecting ship. Ha Ji-won, who also starred in Youn’s disaster film Haeundae, will rejoin. Director Youn said that Mining Area 7 will be a Korean equivalent of the Alien films and the 3D visual will mainly be realized by converting, but considerable amount of footage will be shot in 3D from the beginning.

Creatures Play MacGyver in Yet Another ‘Afraid of the Dark’ Clip

FilmDistrict continues to unload clip after clip from Troy Nixey’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (review) that’s sure to combine into the entire film by the time it hits theaters on August 26.

The latest piece of footage from the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror traps Sally in the bathtub when the creatures play MacGyver with a light switch. Don’t tell Sally, but all she has to do is turn the light back ON to scare away the little creatons.

The pic follows Sally, a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it. Sally obliges and unwittingly unleashes something so terrible, so unthinkable, that everyone’s life – hers most of all – is placed in immediate and grave danger.

Character Posters for ‘Aliens’-inspired ‘Sector 7′

Being that it’s being described as an homage to James Cameron’s Aliens, I’m quite excited for CJ Entertainment’s (The Host, Thirst, and many, many more) Korean creature feature Sector 7 (Mining Area 7), which previously released a trailer that definitely has characteristics of Cameron’s epic sci-fi horror flick. Alongside the previous released imagery, a Korean website has now unloaded a trio of character posters that can be found inside. Hopefully it’ll premiere this year at one of the many forthcoming film festivals.

Directed and produced by Kim Ji-hoon, the pic will be 3-D and is about a mutated creature runs amok in an oil prospecting ship. Ha Ji-won, who also starred in Youn’s disaster film Haeundae, will rejoin.
