‘Amphibious: Creature Of The Deep’ Secures VOD Release

Love them or loathe them, creature features are big news on the indie-horror scene with a constant slate of beastly showdowns that is no doubt putting a smile on the face of B-movie god Roger Corman. The bigger and more bizarre the better; horror fans keep coming back for more monster mayhem. The latest offering, Amphibious: Creature of the Deep, comes from San Fu Maltha; producer of this years cult hit Iron Sky and has been helmed by Brian Yuzna (Beyond Re-animator, Return of the Living Dead 3).

The film “tells the tale of a marine biologist, Skylar Shane (Fassaert), who hires an expat charter boat captain, Jack Bowman (Paré), to help her find prehistoric life form samples in the north Sumatran Sea. After she takes in an orphaned boy (Solaiman), strange occurrences happen on board the ship, including the death of some local smugglers by an unknown entity. Skylar and Jack then have to band together to defeat the evil creature that has emerged from the deep.

5 Horror Movies With Horrible Endings!!!

As often as the importance of endings is stated, it can never be stated loud enough. Can you have a reasonably enjoyable film with a bad ending? Sure, there are plenty. Just as there are more bad films than good films, there are more bad endings than good endings (even amongst good films). We’ve all got our share of favorites that start sputtering around the end of act 2. Sunshine comes to mind. It’s an absolutely brilliant film for much of its running time and it might be regarded as a classic if it hadn’t turned so many people off in the final reels.

But whether or not a film is good or bad – the ending is the last impression its audience will have. A bad one can devalue an otherwise good film or it can be the cherry on top of a truly bad one. With that in mind, let’s take a look at 5 Horror Films With Horrible Endings. Notice I didn’t say the worst endings – I figure it’ll take another few pieces to get to the bottom of that. Also, if you’re in need of a pick-me-up check out 5 Horror Movies With Amazing Endings!

Bradley Cooper To Battle Giant Squid In ‘Here There Be Monsters’?

House of Wax, Unknown and Orphan director Jaume Collet-Serra is in negotiations to take control of the long-gestating Legendary Pictures/Warner Bros. co-production of Here There Be Monsters, a Brian Helgeland script which Vulture has also just learned will be offered to Bradley Cooper to star as its leading man.

If all goes to plan, “Cooper would play real-life Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones, albeit a much-younger Jones, well before he had famously “not yet begun to fight” the Brits. After he’s stripped of his British naval commission, Jones is hired by a shipping magnate to investigate the disappearance of merchant ships in the North Atlantic, which are used as toothpicks by a giant squid.

Collet-Serra is hardly the first high profile director to naval gaze on the project. Last July, it was Robert Zemeckis. Then, back in February, we reported that Brad Bird had been flirting with the project, but he too ultimately passed. Now Vulture reports that Collet-Serra has been brought aboard to ready the script for an early 2013 start — essentially, allowing production to begin on Monsters the moment Cooper finishes filming Legendary Pictures’ most pressing concern, the third Hangover film.

Collet-Serra is still attached to Akira, although that appears to be entering development hell. READ MORE

NSFW: Double The D’s In ‘Piranha 3DD’ Red Band Trailer!

3piranha3dd031512 NSFW: Double The Ds In Piranha 3DD Red Band Trailer!

‘Nothing333′ just tipped us off to the red band NSFW trailer for Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD, the John Gulagar-directed sequel swimming into theaters and VOD June 1. The footage is similar to the leaked international trailer, but there’s a bit more nudity, and a great one-liner from the Hoff!

The sequel, penned by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, continues down the path of “ridiculous” as the piranha this time make their way into swimming pools, pipes, plumping and such at a newly opened waterpark named “Wilderness Waters”! The race is on to save the town from these flesh-eating creatures that are leaving a bloodbath in their wake.

Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and David Hasselhoff all star. READ MORE

IFC Films Gets Drunk Over ‘Grabbers’

IFC Films Gets Drunk Over Grabbers

Pegged as “The Waking Dead” meets Tremors, with tentacles, Jon Wright directs the Irish horror comedy Grabbers that stars Richard Coyle, Ruth Bradley and Russell Tovey in a film that takes to “a sleepy Irish fishing village that’s forced to fend off a blood-sucking sea creature.

It was announced today that IFC Films has acquired the monster comedy with plans on releasing in theaters and VOD later this year.

Ryan Daley said this about the Sundance Film Festival selection: “I liked the hell out Grabbers, but if it had revealed its monster just a little less often, and been just a little more menacing in its approach, it could have transcended mere likeability on the way to horror greatness.” Read his entire review here. Full Trailer For ‘Piranha 3DD’ Better Than Entire Remake

Full Trailer For Piranha 3DD Better Than Entire Remake

We’ve just now landed the full official trailer for Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD that I personally think is better than Alex Aja’s 2010 remake. The footage is over-the-top insane, and gives multiple homage to some of our favorite horror classics (including the infamous bathtub scene in A Nightmare On Elm Street). It looks absolutely amazing. Thanks to BD reader ‘DJblack1313′ for tipping us off.

There’s something in the water… again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.

Piranha 3DD reteams Feast director John Gulagar with writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and David Hasselhoff all star.

Action Director Extraordinaire In Talks For ‘Here There Be Monsters’!

Back in November Robert Zemeckis dropped out of Here There Be Monsters, Legendary Pictures’ movie about Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones with sea monsters that was penned by Brian Helgeland.

Breathing new life into the project, Vulture is reporting that Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird is meeting with Legendary brass about the project, which originated as an idea by company chairman Thomas Tull.

Say what you will about the latest Mission Impossible, but Bird has proved he knows how to direct action, and more importantly how to create suspense. And for those of you unaware, Bird also directed two astounding animated projects, both Ratatouille and The Incredibles, the latter being 1,000x more entertaining that the rival Fantastic Four movie that hit the next summer. Slimy Creature Tease In ‘Dead Shadows’ Teaser Trailer!

deadhsadows110711 Slimy Creature Tease In Dead Shadows Teaser Trailer!

The official website for DC Medias’ French horror Dead Shadows has been updated with a brand new teaser trailer that’s gives us the first glimpse of the creature FX. From David Cholewa, the early art screamed H.P. Lovecraft, while also channeling Frank Darabont’s The Mist. Fabian Wolfrom, Gwendolyn Gourvenec, John Fallon and Laurie Cholewa all star.

Dead Shadows tells the terrifying story about a young man, Chris, whose parents were brutally killed 11 years ago – the same day that Hayley’s Comet could be seen from earth. Tonight, a new comet is going to appear and everyone in his building is getting ready for a party to celebrate the event. There’s even an apocalypse theory going around.

As the night falls, Chris starts to discover that people are acting strange – and it seems to somehow be connected to the comet. People are becoming disoriented and violent and it doesn’t take long before they start mutating into something from beyond this world. In a fight for survival, Chris has to try to escape from his building with the help from some other tenants – but will they make it out alive?READ MORE

‘Creature’ Cover Art Lifts From ‘Feast’

Estimated for release on home video March 20 is the worst movie of the year, Fred Andrews’ Creature (review), which will hit stores featuring cover art that completely rips off Dimension’s Feast poster. I’d be embarrassed as hell to have a quote on this cover box…

Andrews’ creature feature that tanked in its theatrical run last September “revolves around a group of family and friends who, en route to New Orleans, are sidetracked in the Louisiana bayou and encounter a monster named Lockjaw who is revered by the locals as a god. Brooks will play a Navy Seal back from the Middle East; Serinda Swan will play his fiancee, who is abducted to be the creature’s bride. Sid Haig will play a man named Chopper. Daniel Bernhardt will play the creature.READ MORE

[Sundance 2012] A Super Dead Whale In Fresh ‘Grabbers’ Imagery!

[Sundance 2012] A Super Dead Whale In Fresh Grabbers Imagery!

H.P. Lovecraft. Is there anyone cooler in the world of horror? His slimy, creepy, creatures of the underworld are so hideous that they’re beyond description. I’m an immediate sucker for anything related (which is probably why John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness and Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator are among my favorite horror films of all-time.)

Pegged as Waking Dead meets Tremors, with tentacles, Jon Wright directs the Irish horror comedy Grabbers that stars Richard Coyle, Ruth Bradley and Russell Tovey in a film that takes to “a sleepy Irish fishing village forced to fend off a blood-sucking sea creature.

With the creature feature premiering later this month as part of the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Bloody Disgusting has landed a whale of a “first official image” that can be enjoyed after the break. Those of you heading down to the fest, we’ve also included the screening times. Hope to catch you there! READ MORE

IFC Midnight Picks Up ‘Rites of Spring’ Slasher!

IFC Midnight Picks Up Rites of Spring Slasher!

IFC Midnight – a distributor that is definitely in tune with what genre fans would call “films of interest” – has acquired U.S. rights to director Padraig Reynolds’ kidnapping thriller Rites of Spring, which stars genre faves AJ Bowen (The Signal, House of the Devil, A Horrible Way to Die, Hatchet 2) and Anessa Ramsey (YellowBrickRoad, The Signal). It also features creature design by Aaron Sims (A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child, Wrong Turn, The Mist, I Am Legend, Clash of the Titans, The Thing). Color me intrigued (whatever shade that is).

No release date has been announced yet. Judging from the trailer, which you can check out after the break, it looks like a killer scarecrow flick, but I could be way off-base.

In the film, “A group of kidnappers abduct the daughter of a wealthy socialite and hide out in an abandoned school on the edge of town. But feelings of guilt soon overtake the kidnappers, dividing the group and putting their entire plan in jeopardy. The evening further spirals out of control when their poorly chosen hideout becomes a hunting ground for a mysterious creature that requires springtime ritualistic sacrifices.READ MORE

Gary Busey, Farting Cows and Hundreds of ‘Piranha’!

Gary Busey, Farting Cows and Hundreds of Piranha!

The best part about films casting a bunch of oddball ex-stars is that they’ll talk to any press about their roles without conscious. Meaning, they’ll reveal everything if you ask nicely. Such the case with Gary Busey, who stars in Dimension Films’ Piranha 3DD. Re-teaming Feast director John Gulager with writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, we were expecting awesomeness on this level:

I play a farmer,” Busey tells Empire Magazine. “A cow explodes because of its farting ability and out of it come hundreds of piranha, raining down on me. You’ll see how I treat one of them.

If that’s just a tease of how weird things get in Piranha 3DD it makes me think they took the sequel in the correct direction. Piranha 3D took itself way too serious. Point: David Hasselhoff stars in this one…. READ MORE

‘Underworld’ Vamp Plays Demon Prince in ‘I, Frankenstein’

Underworld Vamp Plays Demon Prince in I, Frankenstein

Lakeshore Entertainment is keeping a strong relationship with actor Bill Nighy (pictured above) as he’s in negotiations to play the baddie once again in I, Frankenstein, while Australian thesp Socratis Otto (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is set to co-star as one of his evil henchmen, says Variety.

Aaron Eckhart toplines the pic, which Lionsgate is on board to distribute in the U.S. Stuart Beattie is directing from his own script, based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, co-creator of the Underworld franchise. Nighy starred in all three of the films for Lakeshore.

In I, Frankenstein, Eckhart stars as Adam, Frankenstein’s monster who is being hunted by demons that want to learn the secret of his creation in order to build an army of reanimated corpse demons. Nighy is in talks to play a demon prince. Otto will play his compatriot who is tasked with tracking down and capturing Adam.

Production is scheduled to start in January in Australia, with the pic skedded for domestic release on Feb. 22, 2013. READ MORE

Legendary Gets ‘Godzilla’-sized Pitch

 Legendary Gets Godzilla sized Pitch

Contrary to my predictions, Monsters director Gareth Edwards is still attached to direct a reboot of Godzilla for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, and there’s been plenty of progress to report.

Heat Vision broke the news this evening that Max Borenstein has landed the enormous task of bringing the Japanese green lizard back to theaters. David Goyer (The Dark Knight) had previously worked on the script.

My inside sources tell me that is hasn’t been an easy task finding a writer to crack the code. How do you keep the integrity of the “man in a rubber suit” lore while modernizing it? It’s not an easy concept to pitch. Therefore, Borenstein must have something special up his sleeve. What would you guys like to see?

Borenstein rewrote Legendary’s supernatural fantasy The Seventh Son. Based on the Joseph Delaney YA book, it’s due to go into production with Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore and Ben Barnes attached to star. READ MORE

Robert Zemeckis No Longer Developing ‘Here There Be Monsters’

It was announced back in July that Brian Helgeland had been hired by Legendary Pictures to write Here There Be Monsters, a movie about Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones — except with sea monsters.

While Robert Zemeckis was never attached to direct, reports are now surfacing that Zemeckis will not be heading the ship.

Producer Todd Lieberman told SFX they are “talking about potential directors. Robert is not officially involved any more.

Lieberman also stated: “It could be a great, historical, epic, fun, sea monster movie – something I’ve never done before.

Helgeland, who won the Academy Award for 1997′s L.A. Confidential, also wrote the 2003 Mystic River, the 2010 Green Zone and Robin Hood. READ MORE

Aaron Eckhart Toplines Lionsgate’s ‘I, Frankenstein’

Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, Battle: Los Angeles) will play “Adam Frankenstein” in the Lakeshore Entertainment, Hopscotch Features and Lionsgate production of I, Frankenstein, shooting this January in Australia.

The film was written and is to be directed by Stuart Beattie, and is based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, co-creator of the underworld franchise. Lionsgate will distribute the film in the United States with release already slated for February 22, 2013.

‘I, Frankenstein’ is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, Adam, has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

Writer/director, Stuart Beattie explains, “Mary Shelly’s story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.
