Intronaut Kick Off Tour With Cynic

Very few bands can effectively mix intelligence with intensity like Southern California’s Intronaut, who essentially walk a fine line between psychedelic brutality, captivating hooks and devastating yet unpredictable time changes. This is the essence of thinking man’s metal and something so refreshing that it should serve as a vicious wake up call to masses forcing the entire genre to take notice. They kick off a massive North American tour with Cynic and Dysrhythmia on Thursday, July 22nd, so be sure to visit www.myspace.com/intronaut now to view their entire touring schedule.
Intronaut took metal in a new direction with their Century Media debut, Prehistoricisms, but their sophomore offering, Valley of Smoke, will quickly solidify them as genre visionaries. This stellar new album, which Decibel Magazine praises as “One of the most anticipated albums of 2010” is set for a fall release and was once again produced by the acclaimed Josh Newell (Jane’s Addiction).
Sacha Dunable (vocals/guitars) states: “Intronaut is beyond stoked to get back out on the road and play some shows with our buddies in Cynic and Dysrhythmia. If you live near any of these cities, be sure to come out! We’ll be playing a few songs off our new record, and I could only assume that the other two bands are going to blow your socks off.

Robb Flynn (Machine Head) Covers Black Sabbath In Tribute To Debbie Abono

MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn has recorded audio and video of an acoustic cover of BLACK SABBATH’s “Die Young” song from the classic “Heaven and Hell” album for free download in tribute to the late Debbie Abono, who sadly passed away on the same day as legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio.  In a statement made at the beginning of the video (which was recorded the day after Debbie’s passing and which can be viewed at this location), Robb says, “I don’t know why I recorded this song, it doesn’t really have relevance to Debbie or Dio, but I was sad and depressed and it was the only thing that made sense in the world.”

There are no plans to officially release Flynn’s version of “Die Young”, but an MP3 version of the track is available for free download HERE.

Debbie Abono, a well-respected and much-loved manager and promotional machine behind some of San Francisco Bay Area’s strongest metal bands (POSSESSED, FORBIDDEN, EXODUS, VIO-LENCE, SKINLAB), passed away on May 16 at approximately 9:59 a.m. PST after a battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.

Album Review: Levi/Werstler ‘Avalance of Worms’

Let me start this off by saying that I’m a big fan of Daath. ‘The Concealers’ was a contender for one of my favorite albums of 2009. So to say that I was excited when I heard that guitarists Eyal Levi and Emil Werstler were going to put out an instrumental album in the same style of music is an understatement. Add to that the fact that Sean Reinert of Cynic/Ex-Death was announced as the drummer and I was sold. I love a good instrumental record and this sounded like something fresh and exciting that I would love once I got my grubby hands all over it.
