Ohio metal band Chimaira have released a video for Year of the Snake, which comes off their upcoming album The Age Of Hell. It’s a pretty awesome song and the video has some cool moments (when the microphone swings in front of the camera, it almost looks 3D), but I have a feeling that the album as a whole will be much more kickass.
I got the opportunity to chat with Eyal Levi, guitarist and songwriter for the metal band Daath, about the new self-titled album which came out just a few weeks ago. We discussed the sound of the new album, how Daath stands apart from other metal bands and horror and the influence of horror on Daath. Check out the interview after the jump!
One of my favorite metal bands of the past few years is Daath. I spun ‘The Concealers’ more times than I can count throughout late last year and the beginning of this year. Their track, ‘Wilting On The Vine’ still gets my blood boiling every time I hear it. So that’s why I’m excited to see that they are up to some really big plans for the rest of the year, including a new, self-titled album coming out on Oct. 25th.

Let me start this off by saying that I’m a big fan of Daath. ‘The Concealers’ was a contender for one of my favorite albums of 2009. So to say that I was excited when I heard that guitarists Eyal Levi and Emil Werstler were going to put out an instrumental album in the same style of music is an understatement. Add to that the fact that Sean Reinert of Cynic/Ex-Death was announced as the drummer and I was sold. I love a good instrumental record and this sounded like something fresh and exciting that I would love once I got my grubby hands all over it.

Daath guitar titans, Eyal Levi and Emil Werstler, will unleash their new all instrumental collaboration, Levi/Werstler ‘Avalanche of Worms’ on Magna Carta Records on April 20th. The duo has teamed with legendary drummer Sean Reinert (Cynic, ex-Death) to deliver a commanding sonic statement. Both accomplished guitarists, their interplay allows Levi’s compositional style and Werstler’ virtuosic guitar abilities to complement each other fully. Reinert proves yet again to be unparalleled in his intensity and musicality on drums. This unique alchemy prevents this album from being classified under any one genre. “We work in metal but the vibe of this is just coming from somewhere else,” Werstler says. “It’s hard to put your finger on what it is.”
Extreme metal at its very best, plain and simple, is what the Atlanta based quintet DAATH delivered on their highly acclaimed latest album, The Concealers.
