Marc Forster Says ‘World War Z’ Re-Shoots Only Took Four Weeks, Not Seven

Paramount Pictures’ World War Z is fast approaching on June 21st. Now, director Marc Forster is aiming to clarify reports about the length of the re-shoots telling Empire, “No, seven weeks is not correct. We shot for about four-and-a-half. Reshooting was always normal! …Our reshoots were a little more exposed in the press because we had a different ending. We felt a different ending would serve the movie better. It’s the same if you’re buying a house and you roll out a nice Persian carpet for your living room and you realise it doesn’t really fit.

I’m not sure why Forster didn’t mention this when we asked him about it last month, when he spoke at length about the additional photography (among other things). But… duly noted.

Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and David Morse all star in the film that “ revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

On the heels of the US one-sheets we now have the French poster Paramount has issued for Marc Forster’s World War Z, their zombie movie raising the dead on June 21. While the design isn’t as cool as the US one, I do like the epic sweep and use of color here.

Last Friday, Paramount Pictures invited a group of journalists to the lot to check out about 20 minutes of footage from World War Z, which is out on June 21st. After a quick hello from Brad Pitt, we saw the 3D version of the trailer that’s hitting theaters today (it hit the web earlier this week), which actually looked pretty good for a post-conversion. Following the trailer we saw about 20 minutes of footage culled together from the first two acts of the film. Then we were given a group interview with director Marc Forster, during which he fielded the questions that have been on a lot of our minds during this film’s lengthy production process.

The Super Bowl Spot For ‘World War Z’ Basically Just A Shorter Version Of The Trailer

I didn’t hate the World War Z trailer, but I was sort of underwhelmed by it despite how huge it looks. I just don’t like the zombie hordes all that much. This Super Bowl spot doesn’t change much about that, in fact I’m not sure if I saw any new shots. Let me know if you catch any!

The Apocalypse Is Here! The Full Trailer For ‘World War Z’!!!

This whole week we’ve been gearing up for war. Now we finally have the World War Z trailer. And, true to the footage we saw earlier, it looks huge. Definitely a very, very, very loose adaptation of the book. Back when running zombies were introduced to the horror vernacular I had no idea they’d eventually run so fast in film they’d look like cascading flood water. It almost feels like a Roland Emmerich touch. As for the rest of the trailer – it looks good, but nothing that I haven’t seen before in one way or another.

Marc Forster’s ‘World War Z’ Cut Only 52-Minutes Long?!

The trouble behind Paramount Pictures’ Marc Forster-directed World War Z is no secret. The stories ranged from onset issues forcing reshoots to a feud with star Brad Pitt. In fact, it was reportedly so bad that “Lost” and Prometheus writer Damon Lindelof was brought in to do a third act, but after figuring out how much additional work was needed, he handed the project off to collaborator Drew Goddard.

But here’s the real shocker, one that The Hollywood Reporter conjured up in their in depth look at major studio reshoots – sources say Paramount execs only had 52 minutes of continuous footage cut together to show them, along with a few minutes of other action! That’s INSANE.

The film is said to be gearing up for a seven-week reshoot in London, although the studio has been mum on exactly what’s going down. Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and David Morse all star in the adaptation that’s aiming for a June 21, 2013. release.

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] ‘Cabin in the Woods’ & ‘Prometheus’ Drew Goddard Rewrites Troubled ‘World War Z’

worldwarz [San Diego Comic Con 12] Cabin in the Woods & Prometheus Drew Goddard Rewrites Troubled World War Z

While reports had Prometheus and “Lost” scribe Damon Lindelof coming in to write a new ending to the Marc Forster-directed Brad Pitt-starrer World War Z, it actually was his “Lost” compadre, Drew Goddard, who did the bulk of the writing of the finale, reports Deadline. Lindelof, who reworked Prometheus and co-wrote the Star Trek sequel, cracked a potential new ending of the film, but Lindelof didn’t have time to do the scripting so that task fell to Goddard, who most recently adapted Robopocalypse, which is Steven Spielberg’s next film at DreamWorks. Goddard also wrote Cloverfield and directed Lionsgate’s The Cabin in the Woods.

Both of those guys are off to other projects, so it’s quite possible that Paramount will tap another writer to punch up this ending, if the studio decides to use it. They’re hearing Christopher McQuarrie, whom the studio is high on after he adapted and directed Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher, based on the Lee Child novels. That isn’t set in stone because McQuarrie is Cruise’s go-to guy and he will be doing some script work on All You Need Is Kill, the Doug Liman-directed action film that Cruise will next star in after he completes Oblivion.

No date has been set for the reshoots that will be needed to implement the new ending, but insiders say that Forster will be shooting those scenes.

The adaptation, starring Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and David Morse, revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.
