[BEST & WORST '12] George Shunick’s List of the Best Comics 2012!

So, I’m ashamed to say 2012 was not a terribly adventurous year for me when it comes to comics. For better or worse, I ended up sticking with relatively mainstream comics. That said, there were a number of excellent offerings from both DC and Marvel, and these comics are absolutely capable of competing with more creator-friendly work, as long as they’re in the right hands. At any rate, there was some serious competition this year for the number one spot, but ultimately there can only be one! Curious to find out if what you’ve been reading is the epitome of the medium or crap not worth even a momentary glance? Read on, and see for yourself… READ MORE

Joe Carnahan’s ‘Daredevil’ Reel For The Movie That Will Not Be

Twentieth Century Fox has been trying hard to maintain the rights to the Daredevil film property in order to avoid returning the rights to Marvel Studios in October. If Fox does not have a new film in production stages in October, the rights go back to Marvel, and this seems to be the case. Director Joe Carnahan was on board to reboot Daredevil as a gritty, 70s style thriller. Unfortunately, the project has been shut down. Taking to Twitter, Carnahan posted that the project “went up in smoke.”

But, Carnahan released the pitch reel he put together for his re-envisioning of the hero. The short clip shows a darker world for Daredevil that uses Robert De Niro’s voice for King Pin in order to show the 70s crime world. Watch the NC-17 version of Carnahan’s Daredevil below. READ MORE

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – Tie! Green Wake #7 and Dardevil #6

This is highly unusual given that it’s only supposed to be my “pick” of the week, but it’s my column so I’ll do as I damn well please! I’m seriously bursting at the seams with excitement for both of these titles (which you probably know by now). To be frank, the new Daredevil is without a doubt one of the best ongoing books right now at Marvel. Green Wake on the other hand, is one of the best horror titles anywhere. While these two books may be completely distinct in almost every possible way, they are both truly commendable comics that deserve some attention. Read on for the skinny…

OMFG Of The Day: Alan Moore’s ‘Grit’ Rips Stan Lee And Frank Miller A New One!

Alan Moore has always been one cheeky dude, but this 1983 pastiche of Frank Miller’s “Daredevil” takes the cake. Now this Doesn’t overtly reference Miller’s work, but it’s pretty evident if you’ve ever read his Daredevil. Even if you haven’t chanced a look at Miller’s version of the blind super lawyer, this comic is absolutely hilarious constantly sneering at this image:
