Dark Tranquillity Releases Official Video For “Uniformity”

Swedish metal band Dark Tranquillity have released an official video for “Uniformity”, the newest single from their upcoming album Construct. The video was directed by the prolific Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Lacuna Coil, Hammerfall). You can watch the video below.

After the introspective ‘For Broken Words’ and the uptempo riffing of ‘The Science of Noise’, it’s time to showcase the more anthemic aspects of the new album with the song ‘Uniformity’. In contrast to the more experimental promo videos we made last year, we wanted the ‘Uniformity’ clip to be an intimate and genuine performance video. Nothing but the music itself and the band members playing in the rehearsal room. For this, we hired renowned director Patric Ullaeus, and we’re very happy to share the result with you. Stand up and be counted!

Construct comes out May 27th via Century Media Records. READ MORE

The band states, “This is one of the heaviest and most brooding tracks from ‘Construct’, so it’s a good candidate for the online premiere song position. More music from the album will be presented shortly.

Already being a fan of DT, I’m very eagerly awaiting the release of this album. The break at 1:17 got my blood pumping and I think I’ve replayed this song at least 10 times now. Give it a listen below! READ MORE

Swedish melodic metal legends Dark Tranquillity have announced that they will be releasing their latest album Construct on May 27th in Europe (May 28th in the US) via Century Media Records. This album will be the followup to 2010′s We Are The Void. The band has also released the track list, cover art, and a trailer, all of which can be seen below.

The band comments on the new album, “The selected few people that so far have been granted the privilege of hearing the full album are uniformingly convinced that ‘Construct’ is the strongest and most exciting D.T. album in a long time, and who are we to disagree? While still bearing the unmistakable mark of the dark tranquillity, the record is probably our most different and diverse offering since 1999′s ‘Projector’. For now, we’re pleased to share the track-list, trailer and sleeve design with you, but the first musical preview will appear in the near future.

Dark Tranquillity has long been a band I have enjoyed and they were also one of the first major interviews I did for BD. Therefore, they’ll always have a special place in my heart! READ MORE

Album Review: Ghost ‘Opus Eponymous’

Sweden has, in my eyes, some of the best music acts these days. You’ve got Opeth, In Flames, At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Meshuggah, Pain Of Salvation; the list goes on and on. These bands, and more from the Scandinavian region, are often credited with shaping today’s metal scene. Most of the time, these bands are focused on moving forward, creating the next iconic sound. Ghost has taken the opposite approach and went back in time, forging a Satanic heavy metal album that hearkens back to the 70’s and 80’s NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). Does it work or is it too pretentious for it’s own good? Check after the jump for answer.

Insomnium Sign With Century Media Records

Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of INSOMNIUM who recently won the Finnish Metal Awards earlier this year for Best Band and Best Album (for the 2009 album “Across The Dark”). The band comments: “We are very happy to announce that we have signed a deal with the mighty Century Media Records. Throughout the spring and summer we negotiated with several attractive labels but in the end it was clear that Century Media would be our home for the years to come. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and genuine love for music made an instant impact on us. We are convinced that this alliance will lead to even greater achievements in the future and also avails us to tour outside Europe more often. And naturally it is a great honor for us to stand in the same team with the likes of Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, Paradise Lost, The Haunted, Finntroll and Turisas. A new exciting chapter in the story of Insomnium has begun!

We want to thank Jens Prueter and the whole Century Media crew for putting their trust in us. We thank our manager Jukka Varmo for handling the negotiations very smoothly. We also wish to thank our previous label Candlelight Records for the decade that we spent with them. We salute you all!”

Kataklysm Release Video For ‘Push The Venom’

Iconic Montreal based extreme metallers KATAKLYSM have made the video clip for the song “Push The Venom” available for viewing. The track comes off their new album Heaven’s Venom, which will be released on August 13th in Europe and August 24th in North America. The follow-up to 2008’s Prevail, was recorded by KATAKLYSM guitarist J-F  Dagenais (Malevolent Creation, Misery Index) and was mixed by Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Mnemic, Dark Tranquillity).
Commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono: “After the crazy videos we did with EX DEO it was only natural for us to upgrade the KATAKLYSM visuals as well. We decided to try to recreate the underworld fantasy atmosphere depicted in the artwork with some great visual effects. The song is about surviving the judgment that others cast upon you, and that which is important and feels right to you. Spread your venom and not the lies of your
enemies! Ivan did another fantastic job and we are super happy with it
and hopefully you guys dig it too. See you on tour!”

Retro Review: At The Gates ‘Slaughter Of The Soul’

Okay, so it’s been quite a bit since I’ve done a Retro Review but I’ve been thinking of how I wanted to approach this. So I decided, I’ll do one at the end of each month but I’ll leave it to YOU, the readers, to decide what album to do next. To suggest an album, simply leave a comment below with what you’d like me to review. The only guideline is that the album has to be at least 10 years old. I know that my first Retro Review (Porcupine Tree’s In Absentia) doesn’t fit that guideline, but hey, I’m starting this anew. So from here on out, with each Retro Review, leave a comment, I’ll pick an album at random and that will be the next month’s review. But for now, on to ‘Slaughter of the Soul’.

Kataklysm Shoot Video For ‘Push The Venom’

Canadian extreme metallers KATAKLYSM will commence shooting a video clip for the song “Push The Venom” next July with director Ivan Colic (Type O Negative, Unleashed, Deathstars, Ex Deo) in Belgrade, Serbia. The track comes from their new album Heaven’s Venom, which will be released on August 13th in Europe and August 24th in North America. The follow-up to 2008’s Prevail, was recorded by KATAKLYSM guitarist J-F Dagenais (Malevolent Creation, Misery Index) and was mixed by Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Mnemic, Dark Tranquillity).

“It wasn’t a hard decision for us to choose who will do the next KATAKLYSM video. As some of you know we’ve released some of the craziest videos lately with our other band Ex Deo. So we decided to give KATAKLYSM a visual masterpiece as well and hire Ivan Colic once again to direct and produce the new clip for the song ‘Push The Venom’. It’s a hard hitting track with lots of anger and power and I’m positive Ivan will give it justice. We will shoot the video right after completing the Ex Deo tour in Europe in mid July, so stand by for its premier in August!” READ MORE

Music DVD Review: Dead Meadow ‘Three Kings’

Sometimes, I like to kick back and take a break from all the heavy rock and metal that I usually flock to with open arms. I’ve always felt that it’s good to have a bit of musical diversity. Doing so helps me appreciate artists that I would normally steer completely away from. So I looked at the opportunity of reviewing the new Dead Meadow DVD, ‘Three Kings’, with a tenuous excitement. Here was a chance to not only listen to an album for review purposes but also a chance to get some visual accompaniment that would (hopefully) take the listening experience to the next level.
From the moment the DVD started, I knew that this was something that I would need to become very comfortable for. It wouldn’t do to just sit down and watch this. For this experience, I needed to close the blinds, pour myself a nice drink, lay back on my couch and just let the rest unfold.

Album Review: Dark Tranquillity ‘We Are The Void’

Check out my video interview with Mikael from Dark Tranquillity HERE!
I got into Dark Tranquillity a few years ago when ‘Fiction’ came out. I was immediately blown away by the tight production, the ferocity of the songs and the catchy melodic energy that each song pushed forth. I went back a few albums and was surprised by the consistency of each album. ‘Character’ was just as solid an album and just as accessible. I was really becoming a huge fan of these guys and their songs were on constant rotation on my iPod.
