Ex-Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted Announces Details For Debut Full-Length Album

Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has been hard at work with his new band Newsted. He released the Metal EP at the beginning of this year and it has been announced that Newsted will be on this year’s Gigantour alongside Megadeth, Black Label Society, Device, Hellyeah, and Death Division, which kicks off July 5th (tour dates below). Now it has been announced that the group’s debut full-length album Heavy Metal Music will be released August 6th. Below is the album cover, track list, and a stream of the first single “Heroic Dose”.

Newsted features Jason Newsted on bass and vocals as well as Staind guitarist Mike Mushok alongside guitarist Jessie Farnsworth and drummer Jesus Mendez Jr.

Commenting on Gigantour, Newsted states, “There is a chance that Mustaine and I will bust out some old Metallica that he was a part of. It has been talked about. I’m willing to throw down Phantom Lord – actually, whatever he calls out, I’m gonna throw down.READ MORE

Full Gigantour 2013 Lineup And Schedule Announced

Fans of Megadeth can look forward to seeing the band this summer on this year’s Gigantour. Support for the thrash metal legends will come from Black Label Society. Also on the tour will be Device, which features Disturbed singer David Draiman, Hellyeah, Newsted, and Death Division. All bands were personally picked by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine.

This year’s power-packed lineup is probably the best Gigantour yet, and we’ve had some pretty massive Gigantours over the years. Gigantour 2013 brings four of my favorite bands, each centered around a superstar. With Zakk, David, Vinnie, and Jason there are going to be fans from Ozzy to Disturbed to Pantera to Metallica and everything that’s metal in-between! Don’t miss the metal festival of the summer!

Head on below for the full touring schedule. READ MORE

Megadeth Stream New Single “Super Collider”

Thrash metal legends Megadeth have released a stream of “Super Collider”, the title track to their upcoming album that comes out June 4th. The song can be purchased on iTunes here. Super Collider is the followup to 2011′s Thirteen. You can listen to the song below.

Having listened to Megadeth for several years, I can safely say that this is a truly awful song. It’s entirely boring and does nothing to get the blood pumping. It feels safe, which is something Megadeth never was. READ MORE

Dave Mustaine Likes To Put His Foot In His Mouth

Dave Mustaine Likes To Put His Foot In His Mouth
Welp, Megadeth‘s Dave Mustaine is proving once again that he doesn’t really give a flying f*ck what people think about his views. In a recent interview with LA Weekly, Mustaine spoke about African women and the number of children they have.
“I really think that, if the parents aren’t going to stick together, they shouldn’t make that kind of commitment to life. I watch some of these shows from over in Africa, and you’ve got starving women with six kids. Well, how about, you know, put a plug in it? It’s like, you shouldn’t be having children if you can’t feed them.”
Really Dave? Really??

Okay guys, here’s a question for you: What would you want the most for your man cave? A big screen LCD TV? A life-size replica of Jason Voorhees? Well, in the MLB fan cave, apparently they needed to have Dave Mustaine behind a pane of glass ready to do a guitar solo at any given notice. Check out the very chuckle-worthy clip after the jump.

Dave Mustaine Wants To Start Supergroup With Metallica’s Hetfield And Ulrich

Dave Mustaine was recently interviewed on the Texas radio station 97.1 The Eagle Rocks during the Rockstar Mayhem Festival circuit. On there, he admitted to some rather interesting news. News that might send metalheads into a frenzy. Apparently, Mustaine approached Metallica‘s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich and brought up the possibility of a supergroup. The band would be rounded out by Megadeth bassist David Ellefson. Hetfield apparently said no, but Mustaine has said, “…but it’s still kind of out there in the air. I’m gonna keep hammering on him. It’s on my bucket list.”

Okay, let’s be honest here, the last time Mustaine and Hetfield were in a band together, it didn’t exactly end well. It took almost 30 years for the air to clear. If that happens again, they’ll be lending each other walkers by the time they make peace.
Seriously though, if there was an official announcement and this happened, I would probably have to change my under garments. This would also help when the nurse asked for a urine, stool, and semen sample. ZING! Wait, there’s blood in there? Please call the doctor.

Baptized In Blood Debut To Be Released Digitally Oct. 19th

Canada’s BAPTIZED IN BLOOD are set to storm out of their native Canada and mount a takeover of American metal audiences when they release their self-titled, debut full-length for Roadrunner via digital retailers nationally on October 19. The band will also play alongside A Life Once Lost at the CMJ Music Marathon Metal Sucks Showcase, which will be held October 20 at Club Europa. Baptized in Blood have already turned the discerning head of a metal icon, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, who was so impressed that he  has taken on the role of co-manager for the London, Ontario-based band, alongside Mark Adelman.

Additionally, Mike D of Dark Icon Design, who also serves as the bassist for Killswitch Engage, designed the album artwork. While Baptized in Blood may have friends in high places, the band doesn’t rely on those associations; the five-piece delivers the goods with their bottom heavy, unrelenting metallic assault. Baptized in Blood are a classic Roadrunner signing that remains true the label’s long-standing history as the standard bearer of the best in hard rock and metal.

Roadrunner Spotlights Their Own Top 10 Guitarists

Roadrunner Records has put out the following list of their Top 10 guitarists on their label. Do I agree with them all? Not really, but any list that includes Mikael Akerfeldt is a winner in my book. Here’s what Roadrunner has put out:
“Since 1980, Roadrunner Records has been the home of some of metal’s most notable and revered axe-grinders. To try and identify the greatest of all-time in our extensive catalog would be an impossible feat, so instead, we’re showcasing just ten of our MANY great guitarists, and only focusing on those central to our US roster, which has been alive and well since 1987.

Rather than just show you the riffs that make Dino Cazares, Matt Heafy, Dave Mustaine and more so great, we’ve enlisted DragonForce’s lightning-fast shredder Herman Li as our guitar expert, giving insight into why each guitarist noted is so amazing from a player’s perspective. And in case that’s not enough information, we’ve also got commentary from Mikael Akerfeldt, Jeff Waters, Andreas Kisser and more on their very own ranking as one of Roadrunner’s best.

Go RIGHT HERE to see who we’ve called out in our feature on Ten Great Roadrunner Guitarists.”

Nevermore’s Warrel Dane on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal Tonight with Dave Mustaine!

Warrel Dane (vocalist of Nevermore) will join SiriusXM Liquid Metal channel’s Jose Mangin on the air tonight at 8PM EST for a very candid and in-depth interview covering a plethora of topics including how this new album came together, working with Dave Mustaine, horror movie recommendations and reforming the legendary Sanctuary line-up. Fans will also get treated to a few new tracks off The Obsidian Conspiracy, which have yet to be played anywhere else.
Dane further states: “The Obsidian Conspiracy is finally here. I know it seems like a long time between records but for us it doesn’t seem that long. Lots of touring for the last one, a DVD and a couple solo records kind of filled the gap. There were a lot of trials and tribulations in all our lives during the process of creating this, and it’s all there in the music. Some of it is furious and angry while some of it is solemn and reflective. Get ready for the tour because we’re firing on all cylinders and ready to destroy!”

Cops Called to the set of Megadeth’s new Video Shoot

Dave Mustaine left a message for his fans and explained why the cops were called to the scene where they’re filming a video for “Right to go Insane”.

“We’re on location making the video for Right to go Insane. We’ve got an M68a tank. The cops are here – it can get pretty hairy with this video shoot.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen from this point, but we’re excited. It’s a great day to be alive. God bless!” – said Mr. Mustaine.

The band will be on the road soon celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Rust in Piece” with original bassist Dave Ellefson on board. READ MORE

MEGADETH Following The Way Of VAN HALEN, METALLICA And AEROSMITH?

Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine is in the midst of negotiating something with Neversoft/Activision. Maybe a possible Guitar Hero: Megadeth? Only Time will tell, until then this is what Mr. Mustaine had to say:

“I have recently had two very important high-level meetings with the people from Activision and Neversoft, and we are talking about a lot of things, but a Guitar Hero box set is not as attractive to me and the people from Guitar Hero as the new idea that they offered me, as the creative stuff that we are talking about is over-the-moon!” READ MORE

MEGADETH’s ‘Endgame’ Tour Setlist Revealed, Dave Mustaine Mans the Merch Booth

Blabbermouth reports “MEGADETH’s 2009 U.S. leg of the “Endgame” world tour kicked off last night (Saturday, November 14) at a sold-out Orbit Room in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Support on the trek is coming from MACHINE HEAD, SUICIDE SILENCE, ARCANIUM, and WARBRINGER replacing MACHINE HEAD beginning December 5.”

The setlist seems to be more of the same perpetual greatest hits tour MEGADETH has been playing since “Countdown to Extinction”… don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I saw MEGADETH touring on Countdown back in ’93ish and it was definitely a satisfying show.

dave MEGADETHs Endgame Tour Setlist Revealed, Dave Mustaine Mans the Merch Booth

“Since we have tried and tried to find out why our records are not being stocked in so many places that our other labelmates are being stocked at, and ALL of our peers are being sold in too, and since we keep getting excuses from either the stores, the distributors, or the other people involved with getting the record in stores and out to you, I have decided that depending on how tired I am each night, I am willing to do their jobs too, and I will be waiting for you each night after we play and we (me) will be autographing records for you at our merchandise booth to support MEGADETH somehow at these shows.

“Please remember that I am going to be doing my best to do this for us all, although I should NOT have to do this in order to sell my new record.

“Talk about feeling like a beginner band, and having no real understanding of why you are being treated like you don’t deserve to be treated better, but fuck it and fuck them.

“I will see you [Saturday night in Grand Rapids]. I will be the one hocking MEGADETH records after the show with the box ‘o Sharpies!

“Thank you all for your support, God knows we wouldn’t be here without you.” READ MORE
