To celebrate the highly anticipated release of our horror anthology, V/H/S, for one night only, London took a nostalgic trip back in time to the Video rental store! Below we’ve added a behind-the-scenes look at the special event, which I would have died to attend, as well as details as to how you can be part of the re-opening online this Friday!

Home of V/H/S: “Cellar Rentals Video Store” to return for one day only online!

“The scariest, rawest horror movie of the year” (Rolling Stone) has finally arrived in the UK! The celebrated portmanteau horror V/H/S is out now on DVD, Blu-ray and download through Momentum Pictures (in the UK). Having already opened ‘Cellar Rentals’ in London courtesy of Momentum Pictures where a rapturous crowd were transported back to the heady days of searching through racks upon racks of VHS tapes in order to find that perfect Saturday night scare, they decided that one night in London (after a lot of sorrow from people outside London who couldn’t come) just wasn’t enough, so they are bringing it to the rest of us…

To welcome the arrival, they are reopening the doors to ‘Cellar Rentals’ on Friday, February 1st for four hours from 2pm GMT (6am PST) to 6pm GMT (10am PST) via Twitter, where a hosted nostalgia-thon will allow us all to chat about videos of yesteryear, the arrival of V/H/S on DVD and Blu-ray and download in the UK plus… the final chance EVER to win a copy of V/H/S on VHS in the UK! The IMP Nominates ‘V/H/S’ For Best Horror Movie Poster!

We’re incredibly excited to report that IMP Awards, the premiere poster website, has nominated the theatrical V/H/S one-sheet for “Best Horror Poster”!

“Bringing back memories of the poster for Visiting Hours this skull image made up of someone’s deranged video collection manages to hint at the plot of the film while still providing a creepy image,” says the site.

Designed by Gravillis Inc. for Magnet Releasing, the poster is nominated against The Cabin in the Woods, The Woman in Black, The Possession and In Their Skin.

V/H/S is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and even Netflix Instant. Another tape was discovered – S-VHS – and will premiere at Sundance this coming weekend. READ MORE

My brother just e-mailed me over a link to a website called Movie Bar Code, which carries one simple premise: they take every single frame from a movie, compress it into a single line, and then line them up next to each other so you get a bar code.

Added just the other day was a barcode for V/H/S, made me insanely excited. It’s super cool, in my opinion at least, so I wanted to share it with you guys. (I love how you can plainly see the Skype portion.)

Magnolia released V/H/S (write your reviews) on DVD and Blu-ray last month in the US (along with iTunes and VOD etc…). But, since it was scheduled to come out later across the pond anyway, Momentum Films is releasing it in UK theaters on January 18th with the DVD/Blu-ray release hitting on January 28th. BUT – you can catch it two days early on January 16th and snag yourself a copy of a super limited edition VHS tape version of the movie!

‘V/H/S’ Actually ON VHS In The UK!! US Version Forthcoming!!

Magnolia released V/H/S (write your reviews) on DVD and Blu-ray this week (along with iTunes and VOD etc…). But there’s another, older – and titular – format on which the film can be seen. Actual VHS tape! Total Film has the rundown on the UK release (via Momentum films) of the film on its “intended” format.

“The logistics of such an exercise were far from easy, and by all accounts Momentum Pictures had to undertake considerable research to get big-box-sized tapes made up which include many nods to the glory days of rental stores. Getting hold of these tapes won’t be easy though. Only 300 numbered copies have been manufactured and Momentum are promising a unique V/H/S event in January at which lucky fans will be able to get hold of them. Further details will emerge on the Total Film VHS Hub.”

Screenwriter Simon Barrett took to Facebook where he shares an alternate/deleted final scene from Bloody Disgusting and Magnet Releasing’s V/H/S (your reviews), which is now available On Demand everywhere (iTunes, Amazon, Charter, Comcast, Google Play, DirecTV, Playstation 3, SuddenLink, Time Warner, VUDU, Xbox Zune) before hitting limited theaters October 5. While there’s not much of a spoiler here, I’d probably suggest you check out the movie before reading on.

Barrett, who penned both the wrap, “Tape 56,” and Joe Swanberg’s “The Strange Thing That Happened To Emily When She Was Younger,” shared this: “For your confusion/indifference, here is a still image from a deleted scene we shot for V/H/S. It will NOT be on the DVD, etc. The photo looks cool but the scene ultimately didn’t fit the film.”

With just three days until release, Magnet has sent out some promotional V/H/S packages to various press outlets. These sites all get a one-of-a-kind VHS tape that carries a bootleg clip from the “anthology” arriving on VOD platforms this Thursday, August 30. And it appears that Ryan Turek from Shock Till You Drop was the first one to hook his player up and convert analog to digital! He uncovered a clip from David Bruckner’s (absolutely nuts) segment, “Amateur Night”.

I’m so out of control excited for August 31. We’ve been tight-lipped since January 2011 on our experimental horror anthology V/H/S, which we were mind blown was accepted into the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The love has been extraordinary, but ultimately we just want to impress you guys. Bloody Disgusting is my life and you dear readers are the site’s lifeforce. Without you we have nothing. Without you it all means nothing. So on August 31, when V/H/S hits VOD, we’ll open up the user review page and let you guys have at it. Good or bad, we want to read and share your opinion with other readers. And those of you who want to catch it in theaters, it’ll begin a limited run on October 5 – supposedly there’s actual prints! It’s super surreal to see a dedicated iTunes page for our little movie. Even though you’ve already seen the red band bonanza for V/H/S, Apple is featuring the green band (work safe) version of the trailer that is on all Apple devices (including AppleTV), which is pretty effin’ sweet. Basically, you can now watch VHS footage in 1080p because, well, that makes a whole lotta sense…

Holy crap we’re excited. Both Tom and myself produced V/H/S (become a fan on Facebook), a new kind of horror anthology that Magnet/Magnolia will release on VOD August 31 and in limited theaters October 5. It’s our first major endeavor that sort of shocked us and caught us off guard with the amount and love and support it’s been getting. We apologize that we’ve been so cryptic over the past year, but it’s just not in our blood to celebrate ourselves. The site’s always been about the horror community as a whole, and frankly, all that matters to us is that we don’t fail you. (We just want to leave the legacy that we did things the “right way”). We’re proud of our little film and hope that it earns your gory nod of approval.

Now that we’ve finally shared the official poster, this evening Yahoo! has premiered the long-awaited trailer.
