‘Godzilla’ Starts Shooting In Vancouver And I Eat My Words

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla. has started production in Vancouver under the guidance of helmer Gareth Edwards. Last month I guessed that the film probably wouldn’t start shooting this month because of new writer Frank Darabont’s small window of time in which to turn around a new draft. Well – I’m eating my words (and I’m happy to do it). They’re shooting now. Warner Bros. has also announced that Ken Watanabe (Inception) has joined the production as well.

He joins the previously cast Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Johnson, Juliette Binoche and David Strathairn. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers.

Godzilla will roar on May 16, 2014.

[TV] Trailer For STARZ and David Goyer’s “Da Vinci’s Demons”

STARZ has released an all new trailer for its upcoming “Da Vinci’s Demons,” an original series penned by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel) that will air spring 2013.

Starring Tom Riley (“Monroe”), as the title character, “Da Vinci’s Demons” is an historical fantasy, following the ‘untold’ story of the world’s greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five year old Leonardo Da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future but invent it.

The series also stars Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie, “Honest,” Captain America: The First Avenger), who plays the celebrated beauty with obscure motives, Lucrezia Donati; Elliot Cowan (“Marchlands,” “The Fixer,” “Lost in Austen”), who plays the shrewd de factor ruler of Florence, Lorenzo Medici; Lara Pulver (“True Blood,” “Sherlock,” “Robin Hood”), who plays his wife, Clarice Orsini; and Blake Ritson (RocknRolla, Titus, “World Without End”) as Pope Sixtus’ ruthless bastard son, Count Riario. ‘Godzilla’ Reboot Will Be Grounded In Reality

The team behind Legendary and Warner Bros.’ Godzilla have done an amazing job in keeping their lips sealed tight. No information has come out of the process other than this past Comic-Con’s premiere of a teaser and one-sheet.

The boys at Collider have attempted to get producer Dan Lin to break the silence on the latest reboot that’s to be helmed by Gareth Edwards. He at least gets some info on the production schedule…and a bit more.

We’re planning to film in March,” said Lin. “We are in deep pre-production. Gareth [Edwards] has really mapped out his vision for the movie, you saw the teaser, but Gareth thanks to Thomas Tull’s help he took over a whole stage on the Warner Brothers lot and not only showed the teaser you saw, he had some models built of Godzilla, he had art decorated all over the soundstage, he had pre-vis of some of the big action sequences in the movie. So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting it’s a true re-boot of Godzilla. And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla. What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?

This seems like the obvious direction to take the franchise, and insiders have told me the difficulty they had in coming up with a new take. It should be interesting to see what the collective minds of David Callaham (The Expendables), David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) and Max Borenstein (Seventh Son) have come up with. Godzilla will rise from the Ocean May 16, 2014.

[TV] Trailer For “Da Vinci’s Demons” Confirms The Steampunk-Lite Hilarity

Michael J. Bassett, who directed Solomon Kane and Silent Hill: Revelation, was behind the camera for at least an episode or two of “Da Vinci’s Demons”, a new 8 episode Starz series penned by the popular David Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises).

And now we have the first trailer for the show, which is ridiculous. I’m not saying it doesn’t look entertaining – it does in a way. But they’re clearly just having a good time here, right? This has to be some kind of commentary on the current fascination with updating our favorite historical and literary characters?

In the show, “In a world where thought and faith are controlled, one man fights to set knowledge free. Leonardo Da Vinci is tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He finds himself in a conflict between truth and lies, religion and reason, past and future. His aspirations are used against him by the opposing forces of the time – luring him into a game of seduction where those who despise his intellect need him most. His quest for knowledge nearly becomes his undoing. Da Vinci throws himself into his genius and emerges as an unstoppable force that lifts an entire era out of darkness and propels it into light. His story becomes a mirror into our own world, calling us all to join his fight to free the future.

[NYCC '12] David Goyer And Geoff Johns Team Up For A 13-Issue DC Comics Event

David S. Goyer, who is now better known for co-writing the Dark Knight Trilogy with Chris Nolan, is making his long-awaited return to comic writing. Announced during his Da Vinci’s Demons panel, Goyer spilled the beans that him and long-time collaborator, Geoff Johns have been planning to write a big event within the DC universe. He said, “I have plans to do something with Geoff Johns that’s been on the drawing books for a while. Basically, [we're] just looking for the time to plot it out. DC is holding the space for it, it’s an event that we’re going to do, it’s a 13-issue thing. Hopefully, we’ll start plotting it out this fall.” Look for his return to comics within the coming year. [TV] David Goyer’s “Da Vinci’s Demons” Looks Totally Hilarious!!

Michael J. Bassett, who directed Solomon Kane and the forthcoming Silent Hill: Revelation, was behind the camera for at least an episode or two of “Da Vinci’s Demons”, a new Starz series penned by the popular David Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises). I wasn’t really sure where they were going with this project. Until now.

The first images from the series have been released (via THR) and they’re amazing! It’s kind of like Hudson Hawk without Bruce Willis with a little bit of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes thrown in for good measure. I’m not sure that this is the intent here, but who knows until we actually see the thing?

Gareth Edwards To Bring Us A Realistic ‘Godzilla’

It’s kind of amazing the amount of buzz surrounding Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla reboot, and somehow there’s literally zero information about it. The Coventry Telegraph’s Geek Files is one of the first to get director Gareth Edwards to talk, and here’s what he spilled:

I’ve never worked this hard, this long and been this emotionally involved in something that’s lasted only a few seconds since the time I lost my virginity! But the reaction has been amazing and I can’t wait for the fans to see our final product.” he told the site.

I’ve always been interested in Godzilla and the ideas around him. I really wanted to see another Godzilla film and jumped at the opportunity. My main idea was to imagine ‘If this really happened, what would it be like?’ I want to take a grounded, realistic approach to a Godzilla film.

Everyone warns you about working for Hollywood and how you can get treated in a certain way but my experience has been the polar opposite. Thomas Tull (founder of Legendary) has been very supportive.

What we’ve learned is that he’s aiming for a realistic approach, so don’t expect to see a bunch of Godzilla babies running around Madison Square Garden. Godzilla is to begin casting soon for a May 16, 2014 release. READ MORE

‘Silent Hill’ and ‘Solomon Kane’ Director Hunts “Da Vinci’s Demons”

Michael J. Bassett, who directed Solomon Kane and FilmDistrict’s forthcoming Silent Hill: Revelation, is currently behind cameras on “Da Vinci’s Demons”, a new Starz series penned by the popular David Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises).

As one adventure finishes another begins; home for just two days and now packing my bags again to go hunting some demons with DaVinci,” Bassett teased last week via Twitter.

Here’s the plot crunch: “In a world where thought and faith are controlled, one man fights to set knowledge free. Leonardo Da Vinci is tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He finds himself in a conflict between truth and lies, religion and reason, past and future. His aspirations are used against him by the opposing forces of the time – luring him into a game of seduction where those who despise his intellect need him most. Legit Concept Art For Legendary’s ‘Godzilla’ Reboot

Legit Concept Art For Legendarys Godzilla Reboot

A brand new issue of G-fan has revealed that a pair of Godzilla concept art images are in fact legit, with the previous incarnation (displayed all over the web prior to this story) were fakes. Too bad they were rejected.

Monsters director Gareth Edwards is still is attached to direct the latest revamp of Godzilla for Legendary Pictures. Max Borenstein is rewriting David Goyer’s draft. No details have been revealed other than there have been talks of 3-D and IMAX.

Making his first appearance in 1954 (Gojira) Godzilla is a giant monster that lives in the sea that comes from the ocean to feed on mankind. In 1998, TriStar Pictures produced a remake set in New York City, directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Matthew Broderick. READ MORE

David Goyer Hears the Roar of ‘Godzilla’

The rash of negative tweets surrounding the following news was pretty shocking, considering the big titles the man’s name is attached to. But alas, David Goyer – who has worked with Thomas Tull’s Legendary Pictures on both Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy and the new Superman reboot Man Of Steel – will pen Godzilla from a draft written by David Callaham, for Legendary Pictures.

The project will fall under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros while Toho Company, which own the rights to the oversized reptile, will distribute the film in Japan. Toho’s Godzilla franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide.

Legendary intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible and was smart to get a pro like Goyer on board so early in the process since he has so much experience creating franchises. Of course, Sony Pictures in 1998 tried to jumpstart a Godzilla franchise and that disappointed. And the first Godzilla movie came out in 1954 which was an indictment of nuclear wweaponry. Gareth Edwards (hot of the heels of Monsters) is attached to direct the Legendary project.

News Bites: Opening Credits of ‘Blade’ Anime, ‘Total Recall’ Set Pics & ‘Melancholia’ Art

This morning there’s a slew of interesting little nuggets of news worthy of a quick blurb. First, inside you’ll find the latest official poster for Magnolia’s Melancholia, directed by the controversial Lars Von Trier for release on November 4. In addition, we’ve updated our image gallery with a rash of new stills from the pic that follow Kristen Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg, two sisters whose lives are drifting apart as the universe spectacularly unravels in what Von Trier describes as a beautiful movie about the end of the world.

Also beyond the break is a link to behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the now-filming redo of Total Recall. The pics aren’t eventful but do give us a look at both Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel in costume. Len Wiseman directs for Columbia Pictures with an August 3, 2012 date set in stone. The movie is ditches the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell), a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn’t know for which side.
