Jenkins And Chang Say Bye With Deadman

Deadman is slowly making his way back in the spotlight thanks to DC Universe Presents and Justice League Dark. While we already knew that the focus on Deadman in DCUP would be short-lived, the series will now see a complete switch in the creative team, for better or for worse. Issue 5 will, sadly, be the end for Deadman, Jenkins, and Chang. Issue 6 will usher in the completely new creative team of Dan DiDio (O.M.A.C.) and Jerry Ordway. This second arc will bring Challengers of the Unknown into the new DCU. Read on for the skinny…

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of November 9th 2011

Fewer and fewer leaves find themselves on the trees, the temperature is taking a nose dive every week (at least in Canada), and with the holiday season fast approaching most of us will try to enjoy our added time spent indoors. It’s only natural that with an increase in time spent in our cozy rooms comes an increase in time spent reading comics. The winter is a hot season…for graphic novels, and publishers will be releasing quite a few big titles in the week leading up to the holidays, so get out your pen and paper and start your wish list early! This week brings on the third issues of the acclaimed BATWOMAN and DEMON KNIGHTS as well as the long awaited RETURN TO PERDITION graphic novel.

COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of October 26th 2011

For horror nuts like us who thrive off of suspense, gore, and a good old-fashioned ghost story, there is no better time of the year than Halloween. There’s just something about the chilly fall breeze, the naked trees, the wind that whirls, calling out to the dead. This week is the perfect time to nestle up in your favorite chair by the window with a brand new horror story.

Welcome back to COMICS TO FEAST ON! As we venture further into the fall season it means two things. First, the conclusion to major events like, Fear Itself. Second, and perhaps more pertinent, is the approach of All Hallows Eve. With Halloween coming up in just a few weeks comic publishers see it as their duty to release whole bunch of new horror comics and graphic novels to bloody up the shelves this month. Be on the look out for these horror stories, many of the indie books look to be quite the fright fest.

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – ‘Animal Man’ #2

Last month’s ish of Animal Man was probably the biggest shock of the DC relaunch, and hands down, one of the best new books. Lemire’s talent shines through once again to bring us an exceedingly disturbing tale about Buddy Baker’s life as a superhero that people don’t seem to take seriously. Now that his family is involved in the mess of things, it seems he will have no choice but to revert back to his A-Man uni and give in to the mysterious force known as “The Red”. The first issue was a wonderful introduction to the character, horrifying, and had one of the best cliffhanger endings of the year. Foreman’s distinctive art style only adds to the genius and terror of the book. Lemire and Foreman’s modernized vision of Animal Man is everything we need in contemporary comics. Another fresh batch of The New 52 are flying your way this week! Most of DC’s major titles have been released, however, there are still a great deal of gems to be found in the new DCU. Highlights from last week’s crop were Batman and Robin, Batwoman, Demon Knights, Green Lantern, and Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E.. These groundbreaking new books are still selling out all over the world, and I see no slowing in pace anytime soon.

Obviously there are loads of other comics coming out this week from other publishers, but in honor of such a milestone event, most of the books in this week’s COMICS TO FEAST ON are from DC’s New 52 lineup. Now I know you won’t be buying all 52 new series so let us know which books you can’t wait for!

Beware The ‘Were-Terrier’ In This ‘I Zombie’ Issue #6 Preview!

There are few titles that scream Halloween for me as much as Chris Roberson’s throwback title “I, ZOMBIE”. The story, while not for everyone, seems to capture that feeling of when you would read horror comics as a kid, and for that I give the creative team over at Vertigo a lot of credit. Beyond the break you will find a 5 page preview of the sixth issue that goes on sale next Wednesday. Read on for the skinny!

DC’s ‘Dead Romeo’ Issue #3 Out Tomorrow

Another big release arriving in stores tomorrow comes from DC, go forth and pick up issue #3 of Dead Romeo, the third issue in the 6 part mini-series.

When running away from a gang of sadistic vampires who want to disembowel you and the girl you love, it’s always best to have a “Plan B.” Too bad our hero Romeo didn’t think of that before this issue. Now, he’s got to pick himself up off the ground and figure out what to do. That might be a little harder than usual, though, since he had a leg shot off last issue. It’s just not his day.

Vertigo’s ‘House of Mystery: Volume 2′ Arrives Next Tuesday

We’re only one week away (June 9) from the TPB release of Vertigo’s House of Mystery Vol. 2: Love Stories For Dead People, the second volume collecting 128 pages of the latest from DC’s sister company. Fans of horror anthologies are going to not wanna miss this.

Matthew Sturges, writer of the Eisner-nominated JACK OF FABLES, and his JACK co-writer Bill Willingham, the creator of FABLES, proudly unlock the doors to the HOUSE OF MYSTERY, a new graphic novel series that reinvents the classic DC Comics concept. It focuses on five characters trapped in a supernatural bar, trying to solve the mystery of how and why they’re imprisoned there. Each one has a terrible past they’d like to forget, and with no books, newspapers or TV allowed in the House, they face an eternity of boredom. But stories become the new currency, and fortunately, the House attracts only the finest storytellers.

ROCK OUT: Dead Romeo Out This April

The occult and rock music have had a tawdry relationship…between dark prince Jimmy Paige to the attraction of Satan in metal music. DC comics is trying to melt those elements together again in Dead Romeo. Dead Romeo #1 (of 6) is about a lead singer of a rock band that becomes a vampire and gets sent straight to hell. Sounds pretty metal right?!? More info after the break…
