The Bat-Family Mourn Their Loss In March

If you haven’t already picked up or read Batman Inc #8, don’t read this (even though it’s probably already been spoiled for you by other news sites I won’t name). If you have, you know the tragic news already, and I’m sure you have your opinions on it (feel free to sound off in the comments). The March solicitation covers for the family of Bat books show each of the characters mourning in their own way. READ MORE

Metallica Announces Lineup For Detroit Orion Music + More Festival

Metallica have released a YouTube video that details all that will be seen at the 2013 edition of the annual Orion Music + More Festival, which takes place this year at Belle Isle in Detroit on June 8th and 9th. The festival will see such acts as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Bassnectar, Tomahawk, Gogol Bordello, Battlecross, and many more.

Detroit will see the return of James Hetfield’s Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk Hammett’s Crypt, Lars Ulrich’s Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert Trujillo’s Vans Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and many other fan favorite attractions.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich comments, “Last year’s Orion Music + More Festival was hands down the highlight of the Metallica calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members. The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in ’13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train. Bring it the fuck on!”

Death To Embark On Tour?

The official Death Facebook page posted a photo that there will be a tour this year for the acclaimed melodic death metal band. The below picture, which was posted by Eric Greif (Chuck Schuldiner’s intellectual property lawyer), suggests that some profits will go to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, which is a non-profit charity from which musicians can withdraw funds in case of medical emergencies or financial needs.

The poster also states that members of the band will be part of the tour. No dates or other information has been revealed yet. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more. READ MORE

Control Denied Confirm Work On Follow-Up To ‘The Fragile Art Of Existence’

Control Denied, the prog metal side project of Death singer/guitarist Chuck Schuldiner, has confirmed work on a sophomore album, the follow up to 1999′s The Fragile Art Of Existence. Work was being done on the album in 2000 but stopped when Schuldiner passed away from brain cancer. Now, guitarist Shannon Hamm and producer Jim Morris are going over the recordings for a potential 2013 release. The follow-up will be entitled When Man And Machine Collide.

Schuldiner’s mother, Jane, previously stated that Chuck’s “…last masterpiece deserves more than to be released as unfinished bits of rehearsal room recordings on CD, or to be grabbed for free on the Internet. It deserves to be finished by the rest of the band and to be released on a full-length album, titled: When Machine And Man Collide.

Alright Schuldiner fans, is this something you’d want to hear or has too much time gone by? Would you even want to hear it now for fear that it might not live up to your expectations? READ MORE

1thegrey110811 Red Band Trailer For The Grey Shows A Glimpse Of The Carnage!

[Interview] Liam Neeson & Joe Carnahan Discuss ‘The Grey’, What It Means To Be A Man, And (Of Course) Wolves

1thegrey110811 [Interview] Liam Neeson & Joe Carnahan Discuss The Grey, What It Means To Be A Man, And (Of Course) Wolves

Opening January 27, 2012 from Open Road is director Joe Carnahan’s (A-Team) The Grey, a thriller that stars Liam Neeson (Unknown, After.Life), Dallas Roberts (Joshua, The Factory), James Badge Dale (The Departed), Dermot Mulroney (Zodiac), Frank Grillo (My Soul to Take, Mother’s Day), Nonso Anozie (RocknRolla), and Joe Anderson.

I recently sat down with Neeson and Carnahan for a frank chat about the themes behind the film and the challenges of making it. It’s nice to love a movie as unabashedly as I do this one, so this conversation was definitely a treat for me. Also, it was late in the day so Carnahan was nursing a scotch while Neeson opted for wine – and the conversation flows freely accordingly.

In ‘The Grey,’ Liam Neeson leads an unruly group of oil-rig roughnecks when their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling mortal injuries and merciless weather, the survivors have only a few days to escape the icy elements – and a vicious pack of rogue wolves on the hunt – before their time runs out.

[OMFG] Part II: ‘Strangers’ Director Plans Horrific ‘Grim Night’!! (UPDATED)

[OMFG] Part II: Strangers Director Plans Horrific Grim Night!! (UPDATED)

Suppose the world knew DEATH was coming…

Unbroken Pictures is behind a mind-blowing new project that just went out to studios, and we were just sent the promo accompanying the screenplay.

Entitled Grim Night, this new “holiday”-inspired horror film that mixes the supernatural with the end of the world was penned by Allen Bey and Brandon Bestenheider, and produced by none other than Bryan Bertino, the man behind The Strangers.

From the promo trailer (a piece of footage used to sell the screenplay, meaning there is no movie just yet) I was able to piece together the plot: “Grim Night” takes place once a year, where Grim Reapers come to Earth to collect souls. The video teases the loss of over 90,000 people thus far.

What’s so incredibly creepy about the promo is that is takes the horror genre out of a contained box and supposes that everyone in the world knows about these demons. It would be as if Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees were real, and everybody knew they were coming. How would the world react to a yearly invasion by Death’s army?

It’s brilliant stuff and can only hope a studio is smart enough to snatch it up and get this sucker immediately into production. What are your thoughts? READ MORE

[User Reviews] Write Your ‘Final Destination 5′ Thoughts Now!

The day is here and Warners and New Line Cinema’s hugely anticipated Final Destination 5 is now in theaters everywhere. Featuring real 3-D by James Cameron protege Steven Quale, “in this fifth installment, Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse. But this group of unsuspecting souls was never supposed to survive, and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group frantically tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda.

As you saw earlier this week, I raved about the experience, stating that “it truly, whole-heartedly, genuinely, and without a shadow of a doubt IS the best [sequel in the franchise].

But enough about me, Bloody Disgusting is a community, and your opinions hold equal weight to myself and our staffers. So take some time and write your own review to tell all of BD what YOU thought. Does Death still have it?

Miles Fisher, star of various online shorts (including “Pinkberry: The Movie”), scored the leading role in Warner Bros. and New Line’s forthcoming Final Destination 5, arriving in theaters August 12.

Even with his big screen debut just weeks away, Fisher is continuing with his love for parodies delivering “New Romance,” a Final Destination 5 viral video that spoofs the classic ’80s kids show “Saved By the Bell”. The short comes from American Psycho producer Jake Avnet and director Dave Green.

Thanks to BD reader ‘Jarredah’ for tipping us off to EW who has the first clip from New Line and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Final Destination 5, which pits Death vs teens for a fifth time on August 12. In the aforementioned clip posted inside, FD 5 star Jacqueline MacInnes Wood experiences one of the worst procedures you can imagine during a visit to the eye doctor. Yikes!

One of my close friends (not associated with the movie, at all) caught a special showing of Steven Quale’s 3-D horror pic and absolutely loved it – going as far as to call it the best sequel in the franchise!

Second Full ‘Final Destination 5′ Trailer!

Update: I just got off the phone with producer Craig Perry who swears to me up and down that the trailer actually doesn’t ruin much at all. In light of this, I guess it’s pretty cool if they were able to make the trailer this jam-packed and somehow found a way to keep it fresh for viewers when it hits theaters this August…

These are the days I hate owning a horror movie website.

Warner Bros. Pictures released the second full trailer for Final Destination 5, which not only reveals the new plot twist, but it also puts on display a portion of what appears to be every single death in the film — not to mention a hefty portion of the opening suspension bridge disaster. I would do just about anything to go back in time and NOT watch it.

Directed by Steven Quale in 3-D, “Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse. The Destruction of an International ‘Final Destination’ Poster

David Harley wasn’t a fan of the latest poster for the Steven Quale-directed Final Destination 5 3D, saying it didn’t do anything to separate itself from the horrid fourth film, The Final Destination. Update: We have added an English-language version inside, thanks to reader ‘jarredah’.

New ‘Final Destination 5′ Poster Doesn’t Nail It

The posters for Final Destination 5 have been pretty lackluster so far. Just a skull with the number 5? (that bridge poster sucked too, Photoshop and bullshit never work well together.) You’d figure if they really wanted to make an iconic poster, they’d want to create something that didn’t remind you of the last entry. But, here we are with another skull poster, this time with nails/rebar/whatever flying through its mouth and eye sockets (I’m really starting to think the guys who make these have an ocular fetish). The most interesting thing about the new one-sheet is that the “in 3D” line has gone from being fairly prominent to almost non-existent and tucked away in the corner. That’s definitely not a bad thing… Check past the break for the poster.
