Fans of Rebecca DeMornay in The Hand That Rocks The Cradle should be incredibly excited that Darren Lynn Bousman’s long-delayed Mother’s Day (review) is finally getting some domestic love.
Anchor Bay Films has acquired North American distribution rights to the quasi-remake of the Charles Kaufman-directed 1980 Troma film that also stars Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll and Shawn Ashmore, says Deadline.
“A bank robbery goes wrong and the robbers head for their childhood home, only to discover their mom lost the house to foreclosure. The new owners are having a birthday party, and the brothers take them hostage. When their mother and sister arrive, it becomes clear that the matriarch will do whatever necessary to protect her brood. She is a sadistic and manipulative woman who over the course of the evening takes control of the situation, plots her sons’ escape, all at the expense of the hostages.” READ MORE
I hope you’re excited, because I am! Anonymously showing up in my inbox this morning was an exclusive leaked clip (probably in preperation for EFM this week) from Darren Lynn Bousman’s hotly anticipated Mother’s Day!
The scene, which I like to cal “Show & Tell”, features a tense moment between Mother (Rebecca De Mornay) and the tied up Daniel Sohapi (Frank Grillo). “Now its time for show and tell,” exclaims Mornay. “I am gonna show, and you ARE gonna tell.” The moment continues as she pushes deep into Daniel’s past, burning a photo of his dead son before giving a partygoer a little alcohol bath (yikes!)
The clip then evolves into a montage of footage featuring stars Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll, Briana Evigan, Alexa Vega, Shawn Ashmore, Matt O’Leary, Lyriq Bent, Lisa Marcos, Patrick Flueger, AJ Cook, J. LaRose, and Warren Kole.

“I’m currently shooting ’11-11-11′ and I find out things like the rest of the community,” Bousman told us when we checked in on the clip. “I wake up every morning hoping to see a trailer or a poster, or something else. I am as in the dark and frustrated as you are. I hope we see movement soon. I really feel its my best film and I want people to see it.”

Speaking of Darren Lynn Bousman, while we continue to wait for the official Mother’s Day trailer, a German(?) sales promo used at last November’s AFM was discovered. It’s by no means the “official” trailer and was used to pique sales interest to international buyers at a “market”.
