Deftones Songs Get The Lullaby Treatment

Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star, the company behind taking a band’s songs and rerecording them as children’s lullabies, has now turned their warm, cuddly eyes on Deftones! The album has taken several of Deftones biggest hits over the years, as well as some of the lesser known tracks, and converted them into what is actually a super creepy set of songs. I mean, who wants to let their kid listen to “Passenger”, knowing what the track is really about? But I will admit that I was digging the hell out of their rendition of “Digital Bath”, which is one of my favorite songs. Check out the full track list and cover art below.

Audio samples can be found here and the TTLRS website here. READ MORE

Deftones’ Chino Moreno Talks About The Various Side Projects He’s On

In an interview with Rock It Out, Deftones singer Chino Moreno spoke about the upcoming record Koi No Yokan (out Nov. 13th) as well as the various side projects he is a part of.

Regarding Palms, which features several members of Isis, Moreno states, “They recorded this music a long time ago, almost a year ago, so musically it’s been its own thing and I only got asked to do vocals on it not too long ago by my buddy Aaron [Harris], he’s the drummer. It’s not really a thing I rush on. Any of the projects I do, I don’t have to do them. I do them strictly because it’s fun to make music with friends and to do that.

In terms of ††† (Crosses), Moreno revealed that a third EP will be released before the band tackles a full length record.

Deftones Might Release ‘Eros’, The Last Album With Chi Cheng

In an interview with KROQ, Deftones singer Chino Moreno has raised the possibility that the band might release Eros, the 2008 album that was being recorded when bassist Chi Cheng got into a car accident and fell into a coma. Since Cheng was part of the creative process, the band collectively decided to put the album aside when bassist Sergio Vega came aboard.

Moreno explains about Eros, “…I think that record really captured that time in our lives and I don’t think we’re ready to look back at that time just yet. It’s really still fresh, like a fresh wound in a way, so it’s like one day we’ll release it but right now it’s one of the most personal things that we still deal with everyday so to kind of go there at this point when we feel like we’re really trudging forward doesn’t feel right.

So, nothing is certain or concrete but there are hopes that we one day can hear Cheng’s contributions. Meanwhile, the band will be releasing their latest album Koi No Yokan on Nov. 13th. You can hear the current single “Leathers” below. READ MORE

Listen To Bassnecter’s “Hexes” Feat. Deftones Chino Moreno From The Resident Evil: Retribution OST

This Friday sees the release of Resident Evil: Retribution 3D, the fifth entry into the Resident Evil film franchise (can you believe that the first movie came out 10 years ago? Jeez…). And to hype up the release just a bit more electronic artist Bassnecter is now streaming the end credits track which features Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno. You can listen to the song below.

Bassnecter comments, “I was thrilled to be a part of scoring this, and wanted to make a beat that dropped like a wall of bricks to knock people back in their seats at the movie’s sudden and dramatic end. Chino put together the lyrics in a poem that felt like a slow motion dream, and somehow the two sensations works in tandem: falling backwards in a dream while getting blown back by a wobbling wall of sound.

The RE: Retribution OST can be ordered via iTunes. READ MORE

Deftones Announce New Album: Tour Dates With Scars On Broadway

Hard rock group Deftones have announced a Nov. 13th release date for their upcoming seventh studio album KOI NO YOKAN (loose Japanese translation: “The sense one can have upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall in love”). The album was recorded with Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, Rush), who also produced 2010′s Diamond Eyes.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, singer Chino Moreno stated, “Obviously we’re an aggressive band – not the heaviest, but there’s a lot of attack. But there’s also this lush beauty that flows within everything that we do, and that’s my favorite part of the band. To me, it’s the epitome of what the Deftones do.

The band will also be embarking on a headline tour with support coming from Scars On Broadway. Tour dates are below. READ MORE

ISIS and Ipecac Records will be releasing Temporal, a retrospective collection of unreleased tracks, remixes, and videos, on Nov. 6th. The set will cover the full discography of the band from Mosquito Control through to Wavering Radiant. A full track list will be released soon.

Drummer Aaron Harris comments, “It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release. I hear our catalogue differently now that I’m not living with these songs day to day. This is a special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos; some of which I think we even forgot about.

ISIS broke up in June 2010. Three members (Aaron Harris, Jeff Caxide, and Clifford Meyer) have teamed up with Deftones singer Chino Moreno to form a new group Palms. The band will be releasing their debut album in 2013. READ MORE

Who Wants To Hear Some New Deftones Songs?

It’s been over two years since Deftones released Diamond Eyes (review), their sixth studio album. While that’s a normal amount of time in between studio albums, that doesn’t mean that impatience can’t rear its ugly head. So, last night at the Troubador in Hollywood, the guys decided to oblige the fans by performing two new songs.

The first song, “Roller Derby”, is a heavy hitter, complete with singer Chino Moreno’s frantic, frenzied wails and vicious screams as well as thick aggressive guitars.

The second track, “Rosemary”, is far more subtle but has a creepy, unsettling atmosphere hovering over it. There are some moments that reminded me of “Change (In The House Of Flies)”.

Check out the songs below and leave your thoughts in the comments! READ MORE

To hype up the release, Zombie has released the artwork for the album as well as the track list (below). The USA version features the face of a kitten while the cover for the rest of the world features (shocker of all shockers) his wife Sheri Moon Zombie bare assed and provocatively posed. Wahoo… It’s worse than Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter or Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich.

Zombie will also be releasing two separate, digital-only EPs before the album comes out. These EPs will features tracks from the album as well as bonus tracks.

10 Horror Games And The Bands That Should’ve Scored Them

Sometimes I get really bored. I’m only human, and like the rest of you, there are times when I need a little entertainment. During one of my recent fits of boredom where I was lying naked on the floor of my room in a sticky puddle of dried up Mountain Dew while staring up at the ceiling wondering what wordsmith came up with the word ‘orange,’ I decided to come up with a little game — something to fill my time so I didn’t have to finally concede to what the voices in my head were telling me to do. For the unaware, at Bloody Disgusting lies a mythical creature known as a Jonathan Barkan. He runs the music section on BD with a tyrannical fist and a sweet moustache. If I were reviewing Jon, his Baby Factor would go something like ”If Albert Wesker and a Big Daddy got together to make sweet, sweet love inside a record store, Jonny B would be their musically inclined offspring.”

All that is a long-winded way of saying he knows his music, and he also happens to share my love of video games. So let’s get back to the game I was teasing earlier. I gave Jon ten video game franchises and asked him who he thought would be best suited to score the soundtracks for that series. For example, if Akira Yamaoka had never joined Konami to craft the incredible scores the Silent Hill series is known for, who could’ve taken his place? Find out whom he chose for Silent Hill, as well as nine others, after the jump. READ MORE

The teaser video for Figure It Out, which you can view below, shows Tankian kidnap and torture a poor, innocent, helpless mail box. Yes, you read that right. Also, you get to decide at the end of the video whether or not the mailbox lives or dies. Live or die, make your choice (HA!).

Deftones And ISIS Members Join Up For New Band: Palms

Jeez, do you think singer Chino Moreno is busy enough already? He’s already got Deftones about to hit the road with System of a Down AND he’s also got ††† (Crosses), the project with Far guitarist Shaun Lopez. Now he’s teamed up with ISIS members Aaron Harris, Clifford Meyer and Jeff Caxide to create a new band: Palms.

Aaron Harris: “Clifford, Jeff and I started Palms a little over a year ago out of a desire to continue making music together after ISIS ended. Chino joined shortly after and our sound took shape from there. We’ve worked really hard on this first release and are excited for people to hear it. It’s nice to be back behind the drum kit, and with this line up.”

Chino Moreno: “Being a huge ISIS fan I’ve always dug the moods these dudes convey with their sound. I am excited to combine my sense of creativity with theirs, and to have fun doing so.”

The album will see a release later this year via Ipecac Records, the home of ISIS. READ MORE

Crosses Featuring Chino (Deftones) And Shaun (Far) Release Free EP

If you haven’t heard of Crosses, then shame on you! A side project from Chino Moreno (Deftones) and Shaun Lopez (Far), Crosses is the result of these childhood friends getting together and recording music for the fun of it. The guys have apparently recorded several songs together and plan to release them as EPs over an undetermined amount of time. The first of these EPs is now available for free download or you can pay $5 and get the high quality audio upgrade.

Having downloaded and listened to the EP a few times, I can safely say that it’s a very unique sounding project but one that I’m really enjoying. There is a slightly creepy Depeche Mode-esque feel to the tracks but also a sublime, ethereal beauty as well with a very sexual edge. Basically, it would make great banging music.

Evanescence Entering Studio Next Week?

Okay, admission time: I loved ‘Fallen‘. It wasn’t a musical masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a fun bubblegum pop hard rock album that wasn’t pretentious and had a lot of catchy songs. Now, ‘The Open Door‘ on the other hand was pretty awful. Nothing on that album stood out to me and I quickly shelved it. So, I’m kinda on the fence after reading that Amy Lee and the Evanescence crew are supposedly entering the studio to record their third album with producer Nick Rasculinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones, Alice In Chains)

Amy Lee: ”We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on. We’ve written more than an album of songs. We’ve been finding ourselves, reinventing our sound, experimenting with things we’ve never done before and at the same time embracing the things we love most about Evanescence. This journey has made us the strongest we’ve ever been as a band, and I am in love with the music. Nick Rasculinecz is the perfect fit for this record and we are all very excited to get into the studio together.”
What are your thoughts readers? Ready for some more Evanescence?
