Perhaps one of the most anticipated albums this year is Deftones‘ Koi No Yokan, the follow-up to 2010′s Diamond Eyes (review). Fans have been given tastes of the album with singles and free downloads. Now, Rolling Stone has the full album available for stream. You can check it out there or click on below. READ MORE
Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star, the company behind taking a band’s songs and rerecording them as children’s lullabies, has now turned their warm, cuddly eyes on Deftones! The album has taken several of Deftones biggest hits over the years, as well as some of the lesser known tracks, and converted them into what is actually a super creepy set of songs. I mean, who wants to let their kid listen to “Passenger”, knowing what the track is really about? But I will admit that I was digging the hell out of their rendition of “Digital Bath”, which is one of my favorite songs. Check out the full track list and cover art below.
In an interview with Rock It Out, Deftones singer Chino Moreno spoke about the upcoming record Koi No Yokan (out Nov. 13th) as well as the various side projects he is a part of.
Regarding Palms, which features several members of Isis, Moreno states, “They recorded this music a long time ago, almost a year ago, so musically it’s been its own thing and I only got asked to do vocals on it not too long ago by my buddy Aaron [Harris], he’s the drummer. It’s not really a thing I rush on. Any of the projects I do, I don’t have to do them. I do them strictly because it’s fun to make music with friends and to do that.”
In terms of ††† (Crosses), Moreno revealed that a third EP will be released before the band tackles a full length record.

With the impending Nov. 13th release of Koi No Yokan, Deftones are building up major hype for their new album by streaming a new song entitled “Tempest” (courtesy of PureVolume). Per PureVolume, the lyrical content of the song surrounds the December “End Of The World” Mayan calendar myth. You can listen to the song below.
Alright Deftones fans, what are your thoughts on this song? I think it’s going to take me a few more spins to fully appreciate it. READ MORE
In an interview with KROQ, Deftones singer Chino Moreno has raised the possibility that the band might release Eros, the 2008 album that was being recorded when bassist Chi Cheng got into a car accident and fell into a coma. Since Cheng was part of the creative process, the band collectively decided to put the album aside when bassist Sergio Vega came aboard.
Moreno explains about Eros, “…I think that record really captured that time in our lives and I don’t think we’re ready to look back at that time just yet. It’s really still fresh, like a fresh wound in a way, so it’s like one day we’ll release it but right now it’s one of the most personal things that we still deal with everyday so to kind of go there at this point when we feel like we’re really trudging forward doesn’t feel right.”
So, nothing is certain or concrete but there are hopes that we one day can hear Cheng’s contributions. Meanwhile, the band will be releasing their latest album Koi No Yokan on Nov. 13th. You can hear the current single “Leathers” below. READ MORE
Deftones have released “Leathers”, the first single from their upcoming album Koi No Yokan, which is scheduled to come out Nov. 13th. The song is also available for free download at their official website. The band also released the full track list for the album. You can stream the song and check out the track list below.
Having listened to the song a few times now, I can safely say that fans of the band will be very, very pleased. It’s brooding, dark, aggressive, melodic, and all held together by that signature Deftones feel that we’ve all come to know and love. READ MORE
This Friday sees the release of Resident Evil: Retribution 3D, the fifth entry into the Resident Evil film franchise (can you believe that the first movie came out 10 years ago? Jeez…). And to hype up the release just a bit more electronic artist Bassnecter is now streaming the end credits track which features Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno. You can listen to the song below.
Bassnecter comments, “I was thrilled to be a part of scoring this, and wanted to make a beat that dropped like a wall of bricks to knock people back in their seats at the movie’s sudden and dramatic end. Chino put together the lyrics in a poem that felt like a slow motion dream, and somehow the two sensations works in tandem: falling backwards in a dream while getting blown back by a wobbling wall of sound.”
Milan Records has announced the OST for the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution 3D. The soundtrack is composed by Tomandandy, who composed Resident Evil: Afterlife. The soundtrack features the end credit track “Hexes”, which is produced by Bassnecter and features Chino Moreno of Deftones on vocals. You can pre-order the OST here. You can also stream the official track “Corridors” below.
The Paul W.S. Anderson-directed sequel, starirng Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Michelle Rodriguez, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr, Kevin Durand and Li Bingbing, arrives in theaters September 14.

Hard rock group Deftones have announced a Nov. 13th release date for their upcoming seventh studio album KOI NO YOKAN (loose Japanese translation: “The sense one can have upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall in love”). The album was recorded with Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, Rush), who also produced 2010′s Diamond Eyes.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, singer Chino Moreno stated, “Obviously we’re an aggressive band – not the heaviest, but there’s a lot of attack. But there’s also this lush beauty that flows within everything that we do, and that’s my favorite part of the band. To me, it’s the epitome of what the Deftones do.”
The band will also be embarking on a headline tour with support coming from Scars On Broadway. Tour dates are below. READ MORE
ISIS and Ipecac Records will be releasing Temporal, a retrospective collection of unreleased tracks, remixes, and videos, on Nov. 6th. The set will cover the full discography of the band from Mosquito Control through to Wavering Radiant. A full track list will be released soon.
Drummer Aaron Harris comments, “It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release. I hear our catalogue differently now that I’m not living with these songs day to day. This is a special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos; some of which I think we even forgot about.”
ISIS broke up in June 2010. Three members (Aaron Harris, Jeff Caxide, and Clifford Meyer) have teamed up with Deftones singer Chino Moreno to form a new group Palms. The band will be releasing their debut album in 2013. READ MORE
It’s been over two years since Deftones released Diamond Eyes (review), their sixth studio album. While that’s a normal amount of time in between studio albums, that doesn’t mean that impatience can’t rear its ugly head. So, last night at the Troubador in Hollywood, the guys decided to oblige the fans by performing two new songs.
The first song, “Roller Derby”, is a heavy hitter, complete with singer Chino Moreno’s frantic, frenzied wails and vicious screams as well as thick aggressive guitars.
The second track, “Rosemary”, is far more subtle but has a creepy, unsettling atmosphere hovering over it. There are some moments that reminded me of “Change (In The House Of Flies)”.
Check out the songs below and leave your thoughts in the comments! READ MORE
On August 7th, shock rocker/director Rob Zombie will release Mondo Sex Head, a remix album featuring artists such as J-Devil (Korn‘s Jonathan Davis), ††† (which features Chino from Deftones and members of Far), and more. To hype up the release, Zombie has released the artwork for the album as well as the track list (below). The USA version features the face of a kitten while the cover for the rest of the world features (shocker of all shockers) his wife Sheri Moon Zombie bare assed and provocatively posed. Wahoo… It’s worse than Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter or Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich.
Zombie will also be releasing two separate, digital-only EPs before the album comes out. These EPs will features tracks from the album as well as bonus tracks.
Iowa metal group Slipknot have announced their foray into creating their own headlined musical festival with Knotfest. This year will see two day-long dates, one in their native state of Iowa and one in Somerset, along the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota. The festival will have musical appearances from Deftones, Dethklok, Lamb Of God, Prong, The Urge, Cannibal Corpse, Serj Tankian, and more. There will also be amusement rides, burlesque performances, circus big-top tents, and other carnival-esque treats. Tickets are set to go on sale this Friday.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Shawn “Clown” Crahan states, “It’s all about having fun and bringing something to the world of rock & roll, bringing it to the standard it used to be. It’s time for us to really engulf this idea known as Knotfest where we’re in control, we make a day devoted to our mindset, our ideas, the people that we want to play with, the people that we think our fans want to be around.”
Clown also told Rolling Stone that the festival will continue on in the upcoming years even if Slipknot has no plans to perform. READ MORE
Sometimes I get really bored. I’m only human, and like the rest of you, there are times when I need a little entertainment. During one of my recent fits of boredom where I was lying naked on the floor of my room in a sticky puddle of dried up Mountain Dew while staring up at the ceiling wondering what wordsmith came up with the word ‘orange,’ I decided to come up with a little game — something to fill my time so I didn’t have to finally concede to what the voices in my head were telling me to do. For the unaware, at Bloody Disgusting lies a mythical creature known as a Jonathan Barkan. He runs the music section on BD with a tyrannical fist and a sweet moustache. If I were reviewing Jon, his Baby Factor would go something like ”If Albert Wesker and a Big Daddy got together to make sweet, sweet love inside a record store, Jonny B would be their musically inclined offspring.”
All that is a long-winded way of saying he knows his music, and he also happens to share my love of video games. So let’s get back to the game I was teasing earlier. I gave Jon ten video game franchises and asked him who he thought would be best suited to score the soundtracks for that series. For example, if Akira Yamaoka had never joined Konami to craft the incredible scores the Silent Hill series is known for, who could’ve taken his place? Find out whom he chose for Silent Hill, as well as nine others, after the jump. READ MORE
Serj Tankian, the enigmatic frontman of System of a Down, has released a teaser for Figure It Out, the first single from his upcoming album Harakiri. The album will be released July 10th via Reprise Records/Serjical Strike. The album will be available for preorder starting May 1st, which also coincides with the date that Figure It Out will be available for order off of iTunes.
The teaser video for Figure It Out, which you can view below, shows Tankian kidnap and torture a poor, innocent, helpless mail box. Yes, you read that right. Also, you get to decide at the end of the video whether or not the mailbox lives or dies. Live or die, make your choice (HA!).
System of a Down will also be touring with Deftones. Confirmed tour dates are below. READ MORE
Just a few days ago, there was a sneaking rumor that alt-metal giants System of a Down and Deftones were going to team up together for a tour this summer. Well, the cat is out of the bag and the rumor can now be laid down as fact! For two weeks in August, the two bands will be doing a tour through the east part of the States as well as two dates in Canada. Hint: I’ll be at the Detroit show (technically Clarkston), so let me know if you’ll be there and we’ll hang out and chat horror!
Check below for the full touring schedule. READ MORE
Jeez, do you think singer Chino Moreno is busy enough already? He’s already got Deftones about to hit the road with System of a Down AND he’s also got ††† (Crosses), the project with Far guitarist Shaun Lopez. Now he’s teamed up with ISIS members Aaron Harris, Clifford Meyer and Jeff Caxide to create a new band: Palms.
Aaron Harris: “Clifford, Jeff and I started Palms a little over a year ago out of a desire to continue making music together after ISIS ended. Chino joined shortly after and our sound took shape from there. We’ve worked really hard on this first release and are excited for people to hear it. It’s nice to be back behind the drum kit, and with this line up.”
Chino Moreno: “Being a huge ISIS fan I’ve always dug the moods these dudes convey with their sound. I am excited to combine my sense of creativity with theirs, and to have fun doing so.”
The album will see a release later this year via Ipecac Records, the home of ISIS. READ MORE
Let’s keep this chalked up as rumor until tomorrow but there is speculation that System of a Down might be teaming up with Deftones for a full tour. Speculation arose when System’s Shavo was seen in a picture holding a Deftones laminate while, in a completely different picture, Deftone’s Chino was captured holding a System laminate. There are hints that a full announcement will be coming tomorrow but I’m kinda antsy in my pantsy. I wanna know now! Check below for the picture and let me know if you’d go to the show! READ MORE
Three years ago, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a car accident that left him in a coma and required part of his brain to be removed. Now, he is coming from an unconscious state to a partially conscious one. Below is a video of Chi lifting his left leg when requested.
We’ve seen some really cool videos over the years from Deftones, so it’s only fitting that a live video be just as engaging. Turns out they thought the same thing and it’s evident in the new video for Beauty School, which comes off their latest album Diamond Eyes (review here) and also just so happens to be my favorite track off the album.
If you haven’t heard of Crosses, then shame on you! A side project from Chino Moreno (Deftones) and Shaun Lopez (Far), Crosses is the result of these childhood friends getting together and recording music for the fun of it. The guys have apparently recorded several songs together and plan to release them as EPs over an undetermined amount of time. The first of these EPs is now available for free download or you can pay $5 and get the high quality audio upgrade.
Okay, admission time: I loved ‘Fallen‘. It wasn’t a musical masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a fun bubblegum pop hard rock album that wasn’t pretentious and had a lot of catchy songs. Now, ‘The Open Door‘ on the other hand was pretty awful. Nothing on that album stood out to me and I quickly shelved it. So, I’m kinda on the fence after reading that Amy Lee and the Evanescence crew are supposedly entering the studio to record their third album with producer Nick Rasculinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones, Alice In Chains)
Well, it’s that time of the year again, the time for love, passion, flowers, chocolates, teddy bears, romance and cupids. Oh, and also a lot of pregnancies. True story: more people are born 8-9 months after Valentine’s Day than any other time of the year. That’s a lot of fornication going on! So, in an effort to aid all you horny little buggers out there, I’ve put together a list of my ten songs to get your loins aquiver!
