Demons

In the book, Nightmarish demons terrorize the world in this sharp-edged tale of horror and humanity from award-winner John Shirley. A young artist from San Francisco witnesses the demons’ arrival and the world’s response–panic, denial, and even cooperation in the slaughter. He joins a group of people who believe that human action brought the demons into the world and that the power of human consciousness–awareness of one’s true self–is the only defense against them. Then nine years later, in the face of a new threat, the group must overcome conspiracy and the world’s disbelief to battle demons once again.

Themes of wakefulness and sleep–the struggle for self-awareness against the deliberate denial of what’s happening around us–form the counterpoint for the terrifying and often brutal events of the story. This is a fast-paced, finely told horror tale combined with a pointed examination of the ways in which people so often conspire in their own destruction.

[Premiere] Check Out The Creepy Music Video For Candlelight Red’s “Demons”

Bloody-Disgusting is thrilled to bring you the exclusive music video premiere for Candlelight Red‘s song “Demons”, which comes off their latest EP Demons (iTunes). The video shows the band rocking out amidst fiery explosions and burst of debris interspersed with footage of a woman vomiting blood in heat signature filter (she looks mighty cold). Although I don’t think this video is NSFW, keep in mind that the woman, at points in the video, is covering her bare breasts with her hands. Just thought I should give a fair warning! Check out the video below!

Candlelight Red is currently on the Rockstar Energy Uproar festival alongside Shinedown, Godsmack, Staind, and more. Check out tour dates at the official Uproar website. READ MORE

We have heard your cries! MANY of you felt that the The Ultimate Horror Challenge wasn’t comprehensive enough! So we included an additional 20 films that round it out a bit more. Many of these are from your suggestions! But this still isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Take The Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! What’s Your Score?

This isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Nor does it contain every major work of every horror auteur (you’ll notice we didn’t include John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). Rather, this is a compendium of films that we feel – in one way or another – are essential viewing for every horror fan. Some are mainstream (Poltergeist), some aren’t (Cannibal Holocaust). It’s a broad sampling of key films from the genre.

But you don’t have to be a horror die-hard to take the challenge! If you’re comfortable being a “Soccer Mom”, simply clock how many of these you have (or haven’t) seen and let us know! There are 61 Films listed below the jump. Each film you’ve seen earns you 1 Point. Count out how many you’ve seen and let us know which category you fall into. You can give us your specific count in the comments or yell at us for the films we’ve left out!! The categories are:

1-10 Points: Soccer Mom

11-20 Points: Mildly Adventurous

21-30 Points: Casual Fan

31-40 Points: Hardcore

41-50 Points: Unstable

51-60 Points: Psychopath

61 Points: Special Circle Of Hell

[Special Feature] 10 Widely Seen And Wildly Underrated Horror Performances!

[Special Feature] 10 Widely Seen And Wildly Underrated Horror Performances!

While many of our favorite horror performances enjoy their richly deserved iconic status, there are plenty of great turns out their that don’t get nearly enough credit. And it can happen for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the movie tanked or wasn’t well regarded. But sometimes the films were hugely successful (or found cult popularity later) and their roles were simply outshined by the other stars, or elements, in the picture.

In this list I take a look at 10 performances that I feel haven’t gotten their due. I wanted the focus to be on films that you’ve likely seen (and love), so there’s a chance you may already feel the same way about many of these performances. In some cases these are roles that already get a fair amount of credit in the horror community – but are ignored in popular discussion of the performer’s overall career.

Disagree? Did I miss someone? Make sure your voice is heard in the comments!

TV: Leading Man Found For David S. Goyer’s “Da Vinci’s Demons”

Tom Riley (A Few Days in September, I Want Candy and Happy Ever Afters) will play Leonardo Da Vinci in David Goyer’s upcoming series, “Da Vinci’s Demons“.

Per Variety, ““Da Vinci’s Demons,” written by David S. Goyer, is billed as “a historical fantasy,” and claims to recount the ‘untold’ story of the great renaissance genius during his turbulent youth in Florence.

Says Goyer “Given that Da Vinci was the model for the ‘Renaissance Man,’ these were incredibly large shoes to fill. Leonardo had to be smart, witty and incredibly confident — without coming across as arrogant. He also had to be tormented, because, as a true visionary and polymath, he was ostracized for his ideas as much as he was celebrated. Tom came in and was able to effortlessly combine all of those elements. As soon as he finished his audition, we knew we’d found our man.

Let’s hope this series lives up to its “Demon” promises. Could we have a new “Supernatural” on our hands? Or will this simply be a quick cash in on the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunture historical mashup craze? READ MORE

Dimension Extreme is really pushing out Hellraiser: Revelations, the Victor Garcia-directed sequel that will open in limited theaters September 2, with a VOD launch on September 1. The gates of Hell will then open on DVD October 18.

Already having shared with you guys the trailer, poster and handful of stills, Bloody now scored an exclusive deleted scene that features a bum explaining that the Lament Configuration will bring these kids the ultimate experience. It gets a little long in the tooth, with some gnarly acting, which is probably why it was trimmed.

Clive Barker Makes It Clear: The New ‘Hellraiser’ Didn’t Come From His Butt-Hole

Back in 1986 horror author and artist Clive Barker set the world afire with his novella “The Hellbound Heart” which introduced Pinhead to the horror universe. By 1987 he was behind-the-camera directing the infamous Hellraiser that has since spawned several sequels. While Barker had worked briefly on Dimension Films’ remake, he has absolutely nothing to do with Hellraiser: Revelations, which arrives in limited theaters and VOD September 1.

In fact, he’s starting to get agitated by his Twitter followers who think he is…

Hello,my friends. I want to put on record that the flic out there using the word Hellraiser IS NO FUCKIN’ CHILD OF MINE!” he screams via Twitter. “I have NOTHING to do with the fuckin’ thing. If they claim its from the mind of Clive Barker,it’s a lie. It’s not even from my butt-hole.

Victor Garcia directed the new incarnation of Cenobites from a screenplay by SFX guru Gary Tunnicliffe. Steven Brand plays the new Pinhead.
