After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Calvin Reeder’s ‘The Rambler’ Begins Dangerous Journey; Confirmed Casting!

Bloody Disgusting has received exclusive word that XYZ Films and production partner Brooklyn Reptyle Films’ The Rambler will begin principal photography in Roswell, New Mexico on April 15, 2012.

The film, from an original screenplay by writer/director Calvin Lee Reeder (The Oregonian), will star Dermot Mulroney (New Girl, “The Grey”) and Lindsay Pulsipher (pictured; “True Blood”, The Oregonian).

Here’s the official plot crunch: “After being released from prison, a man known as The Rambler (Dermont) stumbles upon a strange mystery as he attempts a dangerous journey through treacherous back roads and small towns en route to reconnecting with his long lost brother.” Pulsipher will once again play “The Girl”. She also starred in Reeder’s critically-acclaimed short of the same name that screened at the Sundance Film Festival and SXSW back in 2008. Reeder was also named as one of the 25 new faces of independent film in Filmmaker Magazine for 2007. You can watch said short film below; it’s a must-watch! Reeder is also the lead in our original production, V/H/S, acquired by Magnolia out of January’s Sundance.

Currently, XYZ has the hit action film The Raid: Redemption in theaters via Sony Pictures Classics. The company just wrapped production on Frankenstein’s Army, which was shooting in Prague.

The hype behind Joe Carnahan’s (A-Team) The Grey is out of control as I’ve yet to hear a single negative thing about Open Road’s survival thriller opening in theaters January 27.

We’ve now landed a handful of clips from the widely praised thriller that stars Liam Neeson (Unknown, After.Life), Dallas Roberts (Joshua, The Factory), James Badge Dale (The Departed), Dermot Mulroney (Zodiac), Frank Grillo (My Soul to Take, Mother’s Day), Nonso Anozie (RocknRolla), and Joe Anderson. Dig on ‘em all after the break.

Survival Horror ‘The Grey’ a “Man’s Man’s Movie”

The film apparently screened for critics and the result was overwhelmingly positive. So much so that Open Road created a third trailer featuring new footage and loads of quotes. My personal favorite: “It’s a man’s man’s movie.” Unlike 300, this appears to be a true statement.

Kevin Smith Thinks ‘Red State’ Deserves Awards, Has a Temper Tantrum

redstate080611 Kevin Smith Thinks Red State Deserves Awards, Has a Temper Tantrum

The Independent Spirit Award nominations are in. I truly don’t care. What’s interesting is Kevin Smith, who just can’t seem to stay out of the news (I really wish he would). Via his Twitter account @thatkevinsmith the writer/director of Red State bitched and moaned about his zero noms calling the awards “#fakeindie,” which is absolutely hilarious considering that’s exactly what Red State was.

How the fuck did the @SpiritAwards NOT nominate Michael Parks? Nor John Goodman? Nor Melissa Leo?” Smith snarled on Twitter. “Fuck your idiotic organization.

What Smith probably meant to say was: “How the fuck was MY movie not recognized? I’m Kevin Smith. I’m awesome!” Don’t you dare argue with genius!

While I won’t go as far as to say Red State was absolutely terrible, it is included on my “Worst Horror of 2011″ feature, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the film landed a Razzie nom in 2012. Fingers crossed for justice.

You guys love to hate on us for disliking the film, so go forth and insult away! READ MORE

Hot Times With Mom in First ‘Red State’ Clip

It’s funny how Kevin Smith used so much energy spewing hate at the press and then pulled a publicity stunt acquiring his own movie for $20. If that’s not begging for press, I don’t know what is. He continues his off-the-charts hypocrisy by providing MTV with the first ever clip from Red State (read our review) that puts three young teens in an awkward position.

Before being self-released via his Smodcast Pictures Banner in October (I still bet money that the Weinsteins will be involved), Smith will be taking the religious horror thriller on the road this coming March. It follows a group of misfits who encounter fundamentalism gone to the extreme in Middle America.
