Canadian metal act Despised Icon have decided to throw in the towel and disband. However, instead of canceling their world tour plans, they decided to stick it out, giving fans a last opportunity to see them perform. Here are some words from Alex Erian:
“It’’s been a while already since we made THE announcement and I know some of you are probably saying ‘WTF, these guys still aren’t done yet?!’ Well, instead of canceling the tours we had in the works at the time, we figured it’’d be a good opportunity to play in our favourite cities, tour in a few countries we had never visited before and rock out with you guys for the last time.
“After touring in 24 countries in the last 6 months, we’’re finally back home and getting ready to play our last Quebec and Ontario shows next week. This final world tour was simply amazing and since this is the last time we check-in with you guys, I just want to sincerely thank you all once again for all your help and support. We’’ve had some good fucking times together!
“For those who were planning on coming to our final Montreal shows, we have a few surprises for you. The original Despised Icon line-up (2002-2006) will make its appearance and play a few songs from the first 2 albums! We’re also happy to announce that our brothers in Ion Dissonance and Beneath The Massacre will be supporting their new records for the first time at home and ABACABB will also be playing one of their last shows ever with us. Our homies in The Acacia Strain, Oceano and Mychildren Mybride will also be part of the event. It’s gonna be epic. Bandeapart.ca will film and host the entire last set on their website for free so make sure you demonstrate how we do things in MTL! See you soon!”
Brutally intense, unrelenting and outright savage were just a few ways the metal community described Montreal’s hottest export Despised Icon as any of their live shows are a true lesson in violence. After four, full-length albums backed with an unrelenting worldwide touring schedule the band has decided to call it a day and wrap up a stellar career with a final U.S. and Canadian trek this fall. Alex Erian (vocals) further states: “It’s been a little while since we’ve checked in with you guys. We’re currently enjoying our first summer at home in over six years and it feels pretty damn good. However, we did receive amazing news a few days ago. Our last North American run is almost completely booked. We’ll be touring most of the U.S. and Canada in September and October with our friends in Misery Index, Revocation and The Last Felony. We’re stoked to have three of our favorite death metal bands on board with us for the final tour and urge you guys to check them out if you haven’t already. Stay tuned as dates are coming soon.”
Canada’s extreme death metal outfit, The Last Felony, has set an August 17th North American release date for their Lifeforce Records debut, Too Many Humans. Too Many Humans is The Last Felony’s sophomore effort, and the follow up to the 2008 debut full-length, Aeon Of Suffering (Galy Records).
The new album was recorded, engineered, and mixed at Montreal’s Garage Studio by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, Neuraxis), and mastered by Pierre Remillard (Misery Index, Despised Icon, Ion Dissonance, Beneath the Massacre). Artwork comes courtesy of Felix Rancourt (Despised Icon, Beneath the Massacre).
Canadian death metal act Despised Icon after almost 10 years are calling it quits. The band has released the following statement:
“The time has come for us to move on. Some of us have recently reached a new chapter in their lives, starting families, buying houses and pursuing other careers to make it all happen. Writing music, touring and leaving home for months at a time is slowly becoming impossible
because of that. We all decided that it’d be best to pull the plug now and end things right.”
