While I wish I could focus entirely on the best offerings of 2012, I have to let you know about my worst albums of the year as well. Some of the albums below took me several listens to realize that they were lacking while others I knew right away were terrible. But in the end, these were albums that disappointed on a great many levels. Check ‘em out below.
Meldrum has released their latest album Lifer today, which you can pick up on iTunes. The album pays tribute to late guitarist Michelle Meldrum, who passed away at the age of 39 in 2008. Members of Dethklok, Black Label Society, and Dangerous Toys have each released statements remembering Michelle and commenting on Lifer.
Dethklok drummer Gene Hoglan (who recorded drums for Lifer) states, “Let me say this: Never have I obsessed over the recording of any album I’ve been involved in as I have with Meldrum’s latest. The tragic circumstances that took Michelle from us also provided us with a raser-sharp focus to record the most amazing album we could. Michele Madden, Laura Christine, and hell, even Rob Shallcross, our engineer, put forth performances of a lifetime, with each member’s full love and respect going into every nuance of every song. Not only to honor Michelle, but to also lay down some bad-ass music, which was ultimately what she stood for what MELDRUM stands for. I think the songs speak for themselves, and I, for one, have never been prouder to be a part of a family, let alone a project such as this. Metal with balls. Crank it up, indeed.”
Alright Dethklok fans, we’ve got a contest for all of you! We’ve got one vinyl copy of Dethalbum III to giveaway to a lucky reader, so head on down below to find all the details!

Machine Head has pulled out of the Dethklok tour due to frontman Robb Flynn needing to undergo emergency surgery on his…well, on his… Oh, for the love of…IT’S ON HIS NUTS! Okay, so not so much but his nuts are in excruciating amounts of pain due to a hernia in his guts which press down upon his testicles. As a result of this surgery, doctors told Robb that he couldn’t sing for a few weeks. Below is a message from Robb explaining the situation as well as a photo of him in the hospital.
Drummer Shannon Lucas has announced that he is no longer part of The Black Dahlia Murder effective immediately. A video from Lucas (which you can see below) explains why he has been absent from the current tour with Dethklok as well as telling fans that he had a hand in finding the current touring drummer Alan Cassidy (Abigail Williams), who has NOT been made an official replacement.
Lucas also states that there is a side project he will be working on with Adam D. (Killswitch Engage) and George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher (Cannibal Corpse). Drums will apparently be tracked in January. He states he has another grind project that is also in the works.
Lucas will also be opening up a tattoo shop with his wife outside of Richmond, VA.
Best of luck to you Shannon! Hope your next steps take your forward and onward! READ MORE
Who honesty would’ve thought that a cartoon on Adult Swim would result in a real band doing real tours and releasing real albums? And yet that’s exactly what happened, resulting in Dethklok’s Dethalbum breaking records as the highest first-week album sales for a death metal act before Dethalbum II broke that record. As silly as that sounds, it’s reassuring for this metal fan to know that people can relate to metal, even if it’s in as ridiculous (read: awesome) a format as Metalocalypse.
And now the band returns with, you guessed it, Dethalbum III. Packed with 12 blistering tracks, does this album meet my expectations or fall short? Find out below. READ MORE
Okay, horrible facial disfigurement aside, someone REALLY needs to call the doctor! When your nether bits are engulfed in flames and can double as a flamethrower, my recommendation is a hefty dose of penicillin, STAT! But no, I guess that’s asking a bit too much.
In Dethklok‘s video for “I Ejaculate Fire”, a pharaoh receives a delightful “offering” from a woman who just so happens to be a demon/succubus/Smokey The Bear’s worst nightmare. From that point on, the pharaoh roams the lands, “showering” people with his flames of lust. It all comes to a header when he runs into said STD-ridden woman and a good ole’ fashioned standoff ensues. Who is the winner? Check below for the answer! But be warned! This video, even though it’s animated, is pretty NSFW. So tread carefully!
For details on the upcoming Dethalbum III, check here. Dethklok has also just announced a headlining tour with Machine Head, All That Remains, and The Black Dahlia Murder. Tour dates can be found here. READ MORE
Dethklok has announced a full headlining tour for this Fall that sees support coming from Machine Head, All That Remains, and The Black Dahlia Murder. Lamb Of God has announced the first full headline tour since Randy Blythe’s incarceration and subsequent release from a Czech Republic prison. Direct support will come from In Flames while Hatebreed will tour from Oct. 30th through Nov. 19th at which point Hellyeah will take over the remaining tour dates. Sylosis has been confirmed as the opening act on all dates. This will be LoG’s first US tour in support of their album Resolution (review).
While I’m still a bit disappointed that the LoG/Dethklok/Gojira tour wasn’t able to take place, I’m pretty thrilled with this lineup! I’ve seen Lamb of God twice as well as In Flames twice and they both put on one hell of a show.

The band will also be performing on the second day of Slipknot‘s inaugural Knotfest in Minneapolis. Tour dates are below.

I feel like I kinda jinxed things in yesterday’s article about Randy Blythe where I stated that there was still no word on whether or not the Lamb Of God/Dethklok/Gojira tour was pushing forward. I was still harboring a completely unrealistic hope that the tour would continue, even if it had to reschedule the first few dates. Alas, that is not going to happen as word has broken that the tour is now officially cancelled.
Per LoG’s PR: “The band regrets the decision but the uncertainty of Randy’s release makes it impossible to carry on with the tour. Upon Randy’s release, it is the band’s intention to rebook a tour in the fall and at this time the band fully intends to participate in the Mayhem Cruise in December.”
They also add, “Lamb Of God wishes to thank Dethklok, Adult Swim and Gojira for their support and patience as well as all of the promoters who had dates on the tour. Last but certainly not least, the band thanks all of the fans who bought tickets for the tour and who have been supportive of Randy and the band over the last month that Randy has been held in Prague. Without the fans, there is no LAMB OF GOD.” READ MORE
More bad news for Randy Blythe, Lamb of God, and fans around the world as the singer has once again been denied release after posting $400,000 in bail. Blythe has been sitting in jail for over a month in Prague as he faces manslaughter charges stemming from the death of a concert goer in 2010.
In the United States, when someone posts bail, they are free to leave jail. Apparently this is not the case in Czech Republic. Rather, a prosecutor can detain the defendant while they issue a formal protest. In this situation, the prosecution issued the challenge a day after bail was posted. The lawyer will have to meet with the judge on Friday (July 27th) to explain their reasons. The judge will then have five days to deliberate on the reasoning and another five days to post a decision. So we’re looking at a possible Aug. 6th date at the earliest (this is if they don’t take into account “business days”). READ MORE
Adult Swim presented DETHKLOK on the USS Midway aircraft carrier Friday night in San Diego, CA. The world’s most brutal animated death metal band played their first live performance of 2012 as “Metalocalypse” came to life at the San Diego Comic-Con International. Those that attended the full to capacity concert enjoyed new animation and new songs from DETHKLOK’S upcoming album and a grand entrance via helicopter landing on the flight deck of the USS MIDWAY! Color me insanely jealous.
The current DETHKLOK’S touring line up consists of Brendon Small (Dethklok, Galaktikon), Gene Hoglan (Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Death, Dark Angel), Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, The Mike Keneally Band), Bryan Beller ( Steve Vai, Galaktikon). READ MORE

It’s Friday and there’s not better way to enter the weekend than with some Gojira blasting out of your speakers. With that in mind, Bloody-Disgusting is thrilled to bring you an exclusive live performance video of “A Sight To Behold”. The video, which you can watch below, was shot at the 2009 Garorock music festival and is part of one of the live concerts featured on the band’s latest live DVD/Blu-Ray The Flesh Alive (review). Already out in Europe, this 2-disc DVD+bonus CD set (1-disc Blu-Ray+bonus CD) will be released in the US on July 31st. You can pre-order your copy here.

The rise of Gojira is nothing short of meteoric and wonderful. Hailing from Bayonne, France, this extreme metal band, who brilliantly blends technicality with melody, has garnered world wide praise with each of their releases. Interest spread so far and grew so large that Metallica had them as support for much of their late 2009 tour. They were once again invited to join Metallica during their European tour. This was all an opportunity for them to support their (at the time) newly released album The Way Of All Flesh.
All of this is the focus of Gojira’s latest live DVD, The Flesh Alive. Featuring two full concerts, three songs from another, and a 62-minute documentary, this DVD aims to give viewers a chance to enter the world of one of France’s heaviest and most fascinating bands. But does it succeed or leave the viewer feeling cheated? READ MORE
Metallica has released an official video showing their backstage tuning room jam, meet-and-greet, and “Hell And Black” performance at the Statsfængsel prison in Horsens, Denmark. The prison, built in 1853, used to hold long-term convicts such as convicted murderer Peter Lundin. However, the prison was deemed unfit to hold prisoners any longer in 2006 and was shut down. It now serves as an outdoor entertainment venue. You can watch the video below.
I’m sorry, the buildings are no longer fit to hold prisoners but it’s safe to hold gigantic concerts where the sound systems are shaking and rattling the walls? Yeah, this sounds like a perfect idea… Then again, as Mr. Disgusting put it, sounds like something Dethklok would do, which actually puts this in a more understandable light. Hmm… READ MORE
UPDATE: Lamb of God’s press team has stated that no formal charges against Randy Blythe have been made and that the case is still in the investigation stages. Management also wants to clarify the “altercation” that occurred in 2010. According to them, a fan jumped the barricade at the concert three times in an attempt to rush at Randy. On the third occasion security was unable to reach this fan in time. Randy pushed the fan back into the audience where, supposedly, he fell and hit his head. The investigation is apparently set to conclude this weekend and a formal statement will be issued on Monday.
According to the Czech news site Novinky, Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe has been arrested for manslaughter in the Czech Republic. The band was supposed to perform a show in Prague with All Shall Perish and Skeletonwitch but Blythe was detained by police immediately upon arrival, forcing the show’s cancellation. The details are still uncertain but it seems that Blythe got involved in an on-stage altercation with a fan back in 2010. The fan later died from his injuries.
A spokesperson for Lamb of God has stated that they believe Blythe is wrongly accused and they expect full exoneration. They also say that their lawyers are working on this.
Lamb of God will (hopefully) be touring alongside Dethklok and Gojira this summer. All details can be found here. You can also check out my review for their latest album, Resolution, here. READ MORE

US Footage will be shot over the summer during their tour with Dethklok and Gojira as well as their appearances at Knotfest (tour dates below).
