[TV Bites] “Dexter” Season 8 Gets An Early Premiere Date, Remaining “Walking Dead” Season 3 Episode Titles And Dates Now Available

The 8th Season of “Dexter” will premiere on Sunday, June 30th. That’s a full three months earlier than last year’s premiere (Season 7 premiered at the end of September). Speaking at the TCA Conference, Showtime President David Nevins said, “[Season 8] is the likely endpoint, but I’m leaving open the possibility that plans could change [...] I think there’s a very clear trajectory now of where they’re going. I think it’s going to help to write with that endgame in mind. I’ve been pushing to shake up the formula a little bit. I think there should be fundamentally different dynamics now.” Notice that he didn’t commit to it ending? He also offered the following quote, “ “Dexter” for Showtime is what Batman is to Warner Bros., it is a cornerstone franchise.” Is there a Season 9 in the cards? If 8 makes money, then I’d say yes.

AMC’s The Walking Dead returns in February to finish up its third season and will kick things off with 03.09 “The Suicide King”.

In the season’s back half, “With his group in tatters, his sanity in question, and his own son questioning his every move, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) must somehow pull everyone together to face their greatest challenge — the Governor (David Morrissey). In order to survive, he must risk everything, including the group’s very humanity.

“The Walking Dead” returns on Feb 10th at 9/8C. Head inside to check out the list of remaining episode dates and titles! READ MORE

[TV] The Hunt Is Already On For New “Dexter” Blood!

With Season 7 of “Dexter” recently wrapped, the hunt is on fore new cast members to join the show for its 8th (and hopefully last) season. I’m with Mr. Disgusting on the fact that we just need to send Deb and Dex on a Bonnie and Clyde rampage and be done with it.

Per TV Line, “The Showtime thriller will introduce two major recurring characters in its upcoming eighth season… First up is Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a formidable and whip smart neuro-psychiatrist in her late 50s who assists the law in profiling criminals (like, perhaps, the one who murdered LaGuerta?). The show is also on the hunt for a 40ish actor to play Jacob Elroy, a handsome and straightforward former cop who now owns his own private eye business. Our guess: Angel (or maybe Tom?) hires him to find out who killed his ex-wife.

Not a lot to go on there, but if you’re a “Dexter” completist hopefully this helps you achieve happiness!

[TV] Let’s All Gather Together And Hope That “Dexter” Season 9 Never Happens

I tried to keep up with this season of “Dexter”, but it lost me a few episodes in when it began to stray from what should have been its main focus – Deb and Dex figuring out how to be together in this crazy world of ours that hates incest and serial killers. I know a lot of you have enjoyed the season so I’m not here to rain on your parade, and I plan on checking out the season finale to see if the ending (which I spoiled myself on) is totally glorious or just kinda dumb.

One thing I will say is that what I saw of Season 7 was most certainly a step up from Season 6 (which I unfortunately watched in its entirety). The reason for the uptick in quality? The endgame was in sight. The show was (more or less) set to wrap up at the end of next year’s Season 8, which meant the writers could minimize their wheel-spinning somewhat and move the pieces on the board closer to where they need to be for their intended finale, the nature and circumstances of which they claim are set in stone. But now there’s the vague threat of a Season 9 – which would mean that Season 8 could very well become an entire 12 episode cycle of nothing interesting happening at all. Combine that with the heavily fatigued premise, and we might have the very worst season of the show ever on our hands (this is “Dexter”, so that’s saying something).

Showrunner Scott Buck told Vulture, “It might be the last. That hasn’t been announced yet. We’ve been picked up for one more season, but whether that is the last one or not has not yet been determined.” He goes on to say that they have planned Season 8 to be the final season, but all that will change if Showtime decides to pony up for another one (a real risk since this thing still pulls in good ratings). I liked the first couple seasons of “Dexter”, so I’m hoping they’re able to go out with a bang. Stretching it out another year could potentially kill any chance of that happening.

[TV] “Dexter” Pre-Season Finale Shatters Records

The one-two punch of “Dexter” and “Homeland” continues to deliver record-breaking ratings for Showtime on Sunday nights, as their penultimate episodes for the season delivered both series’ highest ratings ever. The “Dexter” season seven and “Homeland” season two finales air this Sunday night from 9 to 11 p.m. ET/PT.

“Dexter” delivered 2.6 million viewers at 9 p.m., attracting the biggest audience ever for a Showtime original series, as well as the best total night delivery ever for a Showtime series with 3.08 million total viewers, topping the long-held record of the series’ season four finale on 12/13/2009 (vs. 2.57 million at 9 p.m. and vs. 3.05 million for the night). Sunday’s episode is not only the series’ highest-rated episode in three years, but is also up 25 percent from the prior week (vs. 2.1 million at 9 p.m., and 2.6 million for the night – up 17 percent).

Season-to-date, the seventh season of “Dexter” is averaging 6.1 million total weekly viewers across platforms, its highest rated season ever, and up 12 percent above its prior season through the same time frame.

While I personally have enjoyed this season, I found this past Sunday’s episode to be a mid melodramatic, almost Soap Opera-like.

[Remember This?] “Werewolf” The TV Series!!!

“The Walking Dead”, “Dexter”, “American Horror Story”, “True Blood”. Horror is almost more popular on TV these days than it is in cinemas. There’s something about the small screen that seems to “legitimize” the genre for casual viewers. Maybe it’s an ingrained expectation that television’s historically strict standards and practices will save them from the nasty bits (which is of course no longer true in the days of HBO and AMC), or perhaps it’s just the simple equation that smaller screen = less scary.

My mom had to be a subscriber to at least one of these theories because she let me watch “Werewolf” at an exceedingly young age. I can even remember her enabling my efforts to get from where I was to where I needed to be to watch it. I had to see it. The funny thing is, I’m pretty sure I was sort of bored by it – I only really remember getting excited when the wolf was onscreen, which wasn’t very often. But I was so addled by my love of An American Werewolf In London that, if it had werewolves in it, I was glued to the screen.

The show ran for 28 episodes on Fox from 1987-1988. I was too young to retain any real specifics, but the internet tells me that it was similar to “The Fugitive” in structure – so it has that going for it! If nothing else, the werewolf design is actually decent.

[TV] Next On “Dexter”, 3 Clips From Season Finale 07.12 “Surprise, Motherf**ker!”

After seven long seasons Showtime’s “Dexter” comes to a boiling point on December 16th. We’ve now scored 3 clips from the season’s finale, along with the episode promo.

The season has taken a left turn after the season 6 finale, where Deb catches Dexter murdering one of his prey, and professes her love for him to a psychiatrist. Everyone thought we’d see a Bonnie and Clyde revival in the seventh season, only it’s happening with serial killer Hannah McKay, played by Yvonne Strahovski, instead of Deb. I’m excited to see the breaking point this coming Sunday!

The episode, 07.12 “Surprise, Motherf**ker!”, “LaGuerta is on the verge of exposing Dexter and his killer ways, while he does his best to cover for himself and Debra, and maintain the life he’s created.
