Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Warner Bros. have just released a new Pacific Rim image via Twitter that puts an enormous Kaiju skull on display in what looks like a museum! The tagline reads, “What once evoked fear now inspires awe.”
Also check out some new evidence of the first Kaiju attack on August 11th, 2013; the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco appears to have taken some serious damage.

Warner Bros. has just released the most epic theatrical banner of all time, using a series of monsters and robots from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim to complete the spread. It’s so large you could wrap it around the entire planet (not true).

Warner Bros. has decided to kick the PR into high gear for the Guillermo del Toro-directed Pacific Rim.
After blowing our minds with the Con trailer premiere, we now have a tremendous banner that sizes up the enormity of the battle ensuing on July 12. I’m a huge fan of Robot Jox and think this looks like the next best thing since 1987!

Remember when Warner Bros. Pictures debuted footage from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim at the WonderCon in Anaheim, CA? The movie news community got wet and exploded into a Twitter orgasm that both excited me, but also left me apprehensive. These days everything is overblown, which makes it incredible difficult to know what’s actually mind-blowing.
This morning Warners released the Con footage, which is basically an elongated trailer bursting with awesome. It’s like the 1989 Robot Jox mixed with Cloverfield, Godzilla and Jurassic Park, only injected with steroids. What you’ll see doesn’t have that “generic” Transformers look, where robots get hit and fall all over a city. Instead, Pacific Rim flexes its muscles with unique set pieces, stunning settings, and even a shockingly smart premise: the humans are getting their asses kicked Die Hard style!
Pacific Rim, in theaters July 12, is clearly going to be del Toro’s coup de grâce. READ MORE
I’ve been becoming more and more skeptical of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim as Warner Bros. has been releasing poster after poster of the film’s Jaeger robots. To me, I started to think it was going to be just another Transformers movie. Apparently, it’s not. Apparently, it’s off-the-wall amaze balls. Here are a few tweets out of the WonderCon panel where del Toro showed off some new footage from the flick set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, and the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.
Erin Maxwell of Variety writes, “Pacific Rim is everything I ever wanted from every movie ever made. Thank you. #wondercon2013”
Melissa Molina stated: “#PacificRim footage was f–king amaaaazing. I need to see this movie NOW #wondercon”
Devin Faraci of Bassass Digest uses all caps to express his excitement: “A JAEGER HITS A KAIJU IN THE FACE WITH A CARGO SHIP IN THE PACIFIC RIM WONDERCON TRAILER.”
Chris Eaton adds: “#pacificrim is no Cloverfield the 2 minutes shown @WonderCon blew that film out the water”
Warner Bros Pictures added a little bit of juice, “Guillermo del Toro says each time he sees #PacificRim, he still has a “sh*t-eating grin” on his face, and it’s “absolute heaven.” #WonderCon”
Hopefully the new footage hits the Web tomorrow. Until then, we’ll wait patiently for July 12 when the world wages war against giant monsters! READ MORE
Warners has released yet another Jaeger poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, this time depicting a giant “Gypsy Danger” robot out of the U.S.A. Prepare for war this July 12.

All this stuff looks pretty cool but for some reason I’m beginning to get an “arm’s length” feeling from Pacific Rim. I was definitely into the first trailer, but I can’t say that I’m looking forward to this that eagerly for some reason. I’d like to know more about the human characters. READ MORE

Because this is actually a pic of some giant monster poop, see? Also Warner Bros. may want to slow down a bit on all these images. We get it – the monsters are big. Warner Bros. has released a new image from from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, and it’s another in a long line of signifiers that suggest the size of the Kaiju. I mean, yeah, big foot print. While I love the trailers for this movie and I’m sure it will be good and all that, I’m also growing a little bit worried that it’s relying on sheer enormity to keep us entertained. I understand that it’s a robots vs. monsters movie in many ways, but the best of these films have human characters that really pop. Hopefully Pacific Rim is has charm to spare beyond the traditional archetypes.

Magazine Total Film has shred a pair of concept art from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, in theaters July 12 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
The first puts the overwhelming scale of the Jaegers into perspective, as a Russian collosus stands guard, dominating the skyline. The second features a freaky Skull Temple that’s fused with its derelict urban surroundings, says the site. You can see those pieces by Doug Williams below.

USA Today has preemed a handful of sweet new images from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, his giant monsters vs. robots movie in theaters July 12 from Warner Bros.
Del Toro is halfway through finishing the special effects but Pacific Rim is already “the only movie I’ve done where I don’t want it to end, frankly,” says the filmmaker (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth), who co-wrote the screenplay with Travis Beacham. And it won’t have to end for now: They’re already working on a sequel, as previously reported. The film is set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.
There’s more than just that anomaly in the future world of Pacific Rim, del Toro says. “It’s really creating a world that’s been shaped by two anomalies: the giant monsters and the giant robots we create to fight them.”

Does that mean they’re done for the day? NOPE! They’ve just released a viral video of a news broadcast detailing a monstrous Kaiju attack on San Francisco. This isn’t footage from the film or anything, but it’s cool as hell and you can get a glimpse of the Kaiju monster about 47 seconds in! The broadcaster describes the creature as being over 300 feet tall. And, courtesy of Wired, we also have a blueprint of one of the human-piloted Jaeger robots (this particular design is for the Gipsy Danger mecha).
