Elysium

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium – but that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means they can. Max (Matt Damon) agrees to take on a life-threatening mission, one that could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Don’t Forget About ‘Elysium’ This Summer!

I seriously think some of us need to wake the hell up and pay attention here.

Sure, Pacific Rim and the other big summer movies are taking up all of our ADHS attention spans, but we really shouldn’t be ignoring Elysium, Neill Blomkamp’s follow up to his masterful District 9. In theaters August 9, the chatter around the sci-fi thriller is deafening, which means either the movie looks bad, or the studio needs to boost the film’s awareness. I go with the latter as we desperately need new images and a flippin’ new trailer already. At this point, I’m starting to think Sony’s going to bump it. Although, August is still a few months away, I’m sure the goodies will start exploding out of the gate, and maybe this LA Times photo is just the starting point. Let’s hope because this movie looks and sounds awesome.

Shrouded in mystery from the get-go, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp pulled together a remarkable cast – including Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Alice Braga and Diego Luna – for the top secret sci-fi epic Elysium, which Sony launches into theaters August 9, 2013.

[Box Office] Sony Pushes Both ‘Elysium’ and ‘RoboCop’ WAY Back

Sony/TriStar has made a few major dafe shifts moving District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium from March 1, 2013 to August 9, 2013. This can be seen as a vote of confidence in the film, maybe the execs think it can hold its own in the summertime.

In even worse news, Elysium is snatching up RoboCop‘s old slot, which MGM has pushed all the way back to February 7, 2014. This can be seen as the studio almost kind of dumping the film, which is weird since they’re still shooting. Maybe I’m wrong, but this isn’t a great sign for RoboCop.

In Elysium, “In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. With RoboCop, director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title character, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) as media mogul Pat Novak. Peter Weller played the character in the original and the 1990 sequel.
