Just a few days ago it was the 9th anniversary of Dimebag Darrell’s death. The Pantera/Damageplan guitarist had just taken the stage when he was brutally murdered by Nathan Gale, an ex-marine who had been dishonorably and was known to be severely schizophrenic. It was a murder that shook my world, especially since I was supposed to see Damageplan the very next night. This wasn’t a situation where a musician passed peacefully. He was taken away, ripped from a community that loved him dearly, a community that he loved back.
Immortal Guardian founding member Gabriel Guardian has released his own tribute for the fallen guitarist by performing the opening and several passages of “Cemetery Gates”, one of Pantera’s most known tracks. Guardian plays the keyboard while simultaneously tapping the opening solo on his guitar. He plays it effortlessly and it really is quite beautiful. Give it a view below. READ MORE
Artist Maxim Dalton painted a poster of 35 of the greatest guitar players ever. While it doesn’t include some famous axe wielders (I don’t see Dimebag Darrell on there), it is a pretty comprehensive painting of guitarists who have shaped and influenced their genres. The painting was released as a limited edition poster but sold out long ago.
But what I want to know is can you identify them all! So head on below to test yourself on your guitar player knowledge! READ MORE

Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, brother of guitarist Dimebag Darrell, has announced that an unreleased Pantera song, entitled Piss, will be on the upcoming Vulgar Display Of Power 20th Anniversary reissue (no official release date yet). Having been a big Pantera fan for YEARS, I’m beyond excited to hear this track! Check out some words from Vinnie below.
One of the coolest rock stars I have ever met in my life was Dimebag Darrell (Pantera, Damageplan). Seriously, that guy was one of the funniest, most genuine guys I’ve ever hung out with and I’ve probably never been as drunk as when I was hanging out with the Damageplan guys. I’ve always regretted never having been able to make it to one of the infamous Pantera/White Zombie tours because, let’s be honest here, that sounds so f*cking awesome! Rumors are that the balcony at the State Theater in Detroit was moving up and down nearly three feet from all the craziness. Possible lawsuit waiting to happen? Maybe. Awesome time for all? Most certainly.
Anyways, back from my little tangent world, Sean Yseult, the bassist of White Zombie, has uploaded an awesome rough recording of her, Dimebag and Phil doing a song called Dawn of the Horrible Gorilla! Check after the jump for a description and a link to the song!
Down vocalist Phil Anselmo was cracked on the head by guitarist Pepper Keenan at their Best Buy Theater show in New York City the other night. Instead of stopping the show, Phil kept on going as though nothing had happened. The incident occurred during their song ‘Lifer‘, which Phil dedicated to late Pantera guitarist, Dimebag Darrell. Check out all the action below.
Toy Fair 2011 brings you all the goods with some of the coolest action figure premieres each year. I know that my desk yearns for some of them to spice things up. How cool would it be to have a long-arm Freddy staring at you while you work? Well, the Toy Fair also brings us many figures and busts of some of our favorite rock stars. After the jump, you can check out some awesome figures from Rush, Dimebag Darrell, Queen, Led Zeppelin, and more.
