Four-Minute Long Trailer for Tobe Hooper’s Supernatural ‘Djinn’!
Tbreak is reporting that Imagenation is disputing claims of bribery to bury Tobe Hooper’s latest genre offering, Djinn, a supernatural horror flick that stars Khalid Laith, Razane Jammal, Aiysha Hart, Carole Abboud, Paul Luebke, and May El Calamawy.
“These rumours are unfounded. ‘Djinn’ is in active post-production, and Image Nation looks forward to releasing the film in theatres later this year. As for offers, there have been no formal offers were made for ‘Djinn’,” says a statement from the company.
In addition, Movie Sushi landed a 4-minute long trailer for the flick that sounds like an Arabic spin on Poltergeist, “The story follows a young Emirati couple who return home from the U.S. to discover that their new apartment in a luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is also home to the malevolent beings known as “djinn.”” READ MORE
Tobe Hooper’s ‘Djinn’ Buried In Alleged Payoff? New Imagery!
Tobe Hooper – the man behind The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Poltergeiest – is struggling to get his latest genre offering released as word behind the scenes is that the film’s producers are burying it…
Last March Hooper got behind te camera for Djinn, a supernatural horror flick that stars Khalid Laith, Razane Jammal, Aiysha Hart, Carole Abboud, Paul Luebke, and May El Calamawy.
Sounding like an Arabic ripoff of Paranormal Activity and Poltergeist, “The story follows a young Emirati couple who return home from the U.S. to discover that their new apartment in a luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is also home to the malevolent beings known as “djinn.””
With the feature in post-production, news out of Italy (Movie Sushi) is that there are major problems behind the curtain — problems that range to the alleged payoff of the studio’s chairman. You can read a translation inside, and dig on a trio of new images (at least something good came out of this). READ MORE
AFM ’11: First Image From Tobe Hooper’s ‘Djinn’
Looking through the hundreds of flyers we landed at AFM we stumbled across the first ever image from Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist director Tobe Hooper’s Djinn, an Arabic-language film starring Khalid Laith, Razane Jammal, Aiysha Hart, Carole Abboud, Paul Luebke and May El Calamawy.
We also learned that the film follows an Emirati couple who return home from a trip and discover that their new apartment in a luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is also home to the malevolent beings known as “djinn.”
Sounds like the same subplot as Poltergeist. READ MORE

Tobe Hooper’s ‘Djinn’ Takes From ‘Paranormal Activity’
The entire production behind Tobe Hooper’s Djinn is out of the ordinary, so much so that I figured we’d never actually see it go behind cameras. It looks like this one is officially a “go” as the National has the first ever behind-the-scenes images and set report that gives us the first ever plot details:
“The film is set in 2015 and follows the story of Khaled and Salama, a couple who return home from America to discover their apartment in a luxury high-rise, built on the site of the deserted fishing village, is also home to malevolent beings,” they explain of the story line that sounds a bit like a multi-being Paranormal Activity.
Much like most ghost stories, “There is not that much blood,” said Daniela Tully, the film’s German producer. “It is more of a supernatural horror rather than a thriller or slasher horror. It is a tale told with a lot of respect for the Emirati traditions and it will stay with you for a long time.”
Casting continues, but anyone joining the crew must abide by one strict rule: no one can mention the word “djinn” while on set. The measure has been taken out of respect and because it is thought that speaking their name could conjure one up.

Perth (V)
Perth is the journey into the heart of Harry Lee, a 51-year-old part-time security guard and taxi driver. He belongs to a redundant generation, eclipsed by a fast-paced, elitist society that is mesmerized with education and status. Harry desires to leave the antiseptic streets of Singapore for his paradise on earth in Western Australia. His attempt to migrate is complicated when he takes on a job ferrying prostitutes. This evokes painful memories from his past. When he takes an unhealthy interest in a Vietnamese prostitute, it awakens a dark and dangerous attempt at personal redemption. The film tackles an extremely topical issue of emigration in Singapore. It is peppered by denizens of the underbelly of Singapore society, reflecting the multicultural idiosyncrasies of a seemingly pristine city. More importantly, it is a personal journey of a flawed man in a society that does not tolerate failure. As such, Harry s rant and anger – directed at anyone and anything, but himself – is merely a distraction from his own feelings of impotency within society, and his inability to find redemption from his past.
