[TV] A Lot Of People Started “Hemlock Grove” Over The Weekend…
… But will they finish it? Netflix premiered “Hemlock Grove,” from producer Eli Roth (who also directed the pilot) on Friday. And, according to the network, it went over like gangbusters.
Netflix issued the following statement, “On April 19, we launched all 13 episodes of Hemlock Grove, a horror thriller from Eli Roth, and we’re very pleased with its early performance. Hemlock Grove was viewed by more members globally in its first weekend than was House of Cards and has been a particular hit among young adults.”
But word of mouth on the show has been extremely mixed and I’m curious how the second weekend numbers stack up. I supposed this is the dawn of a new age… when it’s not just episode to episode ratings (which it is, I’m wondering what the percentage of people who finished the show will be) but 2nd weekend drops.

I haven’t had time to watch it yet (I’m hoping to check out at least a few episodes later today) but I want to know what you think. Is it any good? Premiering April 19 on Netflix is Eli Roth’s “Hemlock Grove“ – and much like the incredible “House of Cards,” Netflix will launch ALL 13 episodes on the same day!
The first official clip was released this evening and gets things going with a howl! Typically, clips are exposition heavy and shy away from any of the big surprises… not this one! Watch as one of the film’s main characters transforms into a werewolf. You can tell they were really trying to impress the horror crowd, although some of the digital work cheapens it. Still, the practical goodies are hard to ignore. I think it still deserves a slow clap? You tell us…

The trailer for the first season of the Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove has it the web. It actually looks like it could be pretty good! I dig the tone, it’s almost like what would happen if “True Blood” actually had a sense of menace (with a little bit of “Twin Peaks” thrown in)!
The pilot was directed by Eli Roth and co-written by Brian McGreevy. Dougray Scott and Famke Janssen also star in this new television series that will premiere exclusively on Netflix.

With a date still to be set, Netflix has unveiled the artwork for their original series “Hemlock Grove“, from Hotel and Cabin Fever director Eli Roth. The show, “Revolves around the murder of a young girl found close to the former Godfrey steel mill. The suspects in her killing include Peter (Landon Liboiron), a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and Roman (Skarsgard), the arrogant Godfrey Scion, whose sister Shelley is disturbingly deformed and whose mother, Olivia (Janssen), is the beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove.” Dougray Scott, Famke Janssen, Landon Liboiron and Bill Skarsgard all star.
TVLine adds that Ellen Greene (pictured), who played one of Chuck’s shut-in aunts on Bryan Fuller‘s “Pushing Daisies,” is reuniting with the show’s creator on his new gig “Hannibal.” Greene will take on the recurring role of Mrs. Komeda, a novelist and member of Boston’s cultural elite. She’s also a pal of the titular cannibal, Dr. Lecter (played by Casino Royale‘s Mads Mikkelsen) which should protect her from becoming his lunch. She’s best known for playing Audrey in the big-screen adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors. READ MORE
Trailer For Uni Home Video’s ‘Death Race 3: Inferno’
Roel Reine (Death Race 2) is back behind the camera of Death Race 3: Inferno, Universal Home Entertainment second sequel to the Jason Statham starrer Death Race that’s lensed last year in South Africa.
The sequel takes place after the events of Death Race 2. The new film will fix on off-road racing in the Mexican desert. Danny Trejo and Tanit Phoenix reprise their roles for the new film.

Lili Taylor (pictured above; The Conjuring) has joined leads Dougray Scott and Famke Janssen in Netflix’s new original series “Hemlock Grove”, from executive producer Eli Roth and Gaumont International TV. The pilot is written by Brian McGreevey and Lee Shipman based on McGreevy’s upcoming goth horror novel.
The show “revolves around the murder of a young girl found close to the former Godfrey steel mill. The suspects in her killing include Peter (Landon Liboiron), a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and Roman (Bill Skarsgard), the arrogant Godfrey scion, whose sister Shelley is disturbingly deformed and whose mother, Olivia (Janssen), is the beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove.”
Per TV Line, “Taylor will recur as Liboiron’s mother, whose way of life is anathema to the rich teen’s mom (Famke Janssen).“
Casting Bits: Dougray Scott Moves Into ‘Hemlock Grove,’ ‘Oldboy’ Has Its Villain?
Warner Bros. Pictures is back on track with Oldboy, their remake of Park Chan-wook’s Korean classic that’s to be helmed by Spike Lee. Variety reports that District 9 star Sharlto Copley (pictured above) has been offered the villain role and is in early talks to join Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen in the revenge pic. In the 2003 original, a man gets kidnapped and held in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly, he’s released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can take revenge.
Deadline drops another small bit of news as Dougray Scott (pictured below; Dark Water, Mission: Impossible II) is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Famke Janssen in Netflix’s new original series “Hemlock Grove,” from Eli Roth and Gaumont International TV. Written by Brian McGreevey and Lee Shipman based on McGreevy’s upcoming goth horror novel, “‘Hemlock Grove’ revolves around the murder of a young girl found close to the former Godfrey steel mill. Scott will play Norman Godfrey, the older brother of Olivia’s late husband, JR, one of the founders of the Godfrey Center for Biomedical Technologies. Wealthy, but with modest tastes and an equally modest home, Norman is sickened by Olivia’s displays of ostentation and the way in which she spoils her son. READ MORE
Two Images From Pathe’s ‘Last Passenger’ Crash Online
More AFM awesome as Pathe International has released the first two images from Omid Nooshin‘s Speed-like horror thriller Last Passenger, which stars Dougray Scott, Lindsay Duncan and David Schofield. It’s described as a claustrophobic suspense thriller in the Hitchcockian-Spielberg tradition of the everyday man thrust into an extraordinary situation.
“Lewis Shaler (Dougray Scott) is an overworked doctor and devoted single dad heading home with his young son on the last train from London. When he strikes up a relationship with a beautiful and flirtatious stranger, Lewis believes life is finally looking up. But events then take a dark turn when Lewis discovers the guard has mysteriously vanished and the brakes have been sabotaged. Unknown to the handful of remaining passengers, a vengeful sociopath has taken control of the train and is hell bent on crashing it, taking his passengers with him to the grave.
As the speeding locomotive ploughs through stations and level crossings, the body count rises and panic turns to terror.
