DOWN, SATAN!, one of the shortest stories, relates the tale of a wealthy middle-aged businessman, Gregorius, who becomes depressed when he believes God has deserted him, and he comes up with a plan to build a Hell on Earth in order to summon Satan, believing that God will then sweep him (Gregorius) out of Satan’s clutches and into His heavenly fold. In his vast Satanic Cathedral, Gregorious soon loses sight of his original intention of attracting God’s attention, and he is captured after torturing to death hundreds of people in the well-equipped torture chambers. It is deliberately left ambiguous whether Gregorius went insane, or if he really did succeed in tempting Satan into taking residence in his own personal Hell.
Described by one person who read it as ” Buried meets 1408, ” the supernatural thriller centers on a guy trapped in an elevator.

The album will be released digitally, on CD, and on vinyl on July 16th via Anselmo’s own Housecore Records and will feature eight tracks. The album cover has also been unveiled and can be seen below.
Anselmo explains, “It wasn’t about doing a paint-by-numbers thrash or heavy metal record. It’s an angry album that only I could do. I don’t see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I’m screaming about. On this album, there isn’t any wordplay, there isn’t any hidden message, it’s all right there in front of you.”
It has been announced that Down, Crowbar, and Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals will be performing at the inaugural year of the Housecore Horror Film Festival (HHFF), which takes place Oct. 25th-27th in Austin, TX.
Philip Anselmo (Pantera, Superjoint Ritual) teamed up with Bloody-Disgusting’s own Corey Mitchell to create the ultimate horror and metal festival, which will combine several heavy metal and hard rock acts with over 70 screenings of horror, true crime, music video, and more. There will also be guest appearances from many underground horror directors.
There will also be a Haunted Corridor that will be constructed by a special Texas haunted house team that received creative design input from Anselmo, who is one of the co-founders of the House Of Shock haunted house in New Orleans, LA.
New Orleans metal band Down, which is fronted by Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo, will be embarking on a short US tour at the end of May. The band will host a CD release show on Apr. 6th at The Rail Club in Forth Worth, TX.
Vocalist Bruce Corbitt issued a statement regarding the departure of bassist Dre’ Karst, saying, “Warbeast Bassist Dre’ Karst will be leaving the band because he is unable to keep up with our busy touring schedule due to his work occupation. We are saddened that Dre’ has to leave the band. But we will be the first to acknowledge that Dre’ did an amazing job while he was in Warbeast. He only had two weeks to prepare to record our upcoming full-length album Destroy. He also kicked ass at all of the shows and on the three tours with Down. So please everyone… join us in giving Dre’ his props for what he accomplished in his time in Warbeast. THANKS SO MUCH DRE’!!! We will miss ya bro… thanks for being part of our family.”
Corbitt continues, “So obviously that means that Warbeast is now on the hunt for our next bass player. Please only serious musicians contact us about this. Obviously we need someone that can tour constantly and that has a schedule that will work with Warbeast. So for those interested please send an email to email@example.com.” READ MORE

Down’s vocalist Philip Anselmo (Pantera, Superjoint Ritual) has teamed up with Warbeast to release a four-track split EP entitled War Of The Gargantuas on Jan. 8th, 2013 that will feature two tracks from each band. This will mark the first release of any solo Anselmo tracks. READ MORE
Ex-Pantera singer and current Down vocalist Philip H. Anselmo is teaming up with Warbeast to release War Of The Gargantuas, a split album that will feature two new songs from each artist. This will mark the first solo work Anselmo will have officially released. The two tracks will feature ex-Warbeast bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable split from the band. The split will be released Jan. 8th, 2013.
Anselmo says, “This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers WARBEAST. The title of the split is War of The Gargantuas and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the 60′s Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our “Gargantuan” personalities. Both WARBEAST and myself have full length LP’s that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”
Warbeast guitarist Scott Shelby adds, “These two songs we have on War of the Gargantuas were the next level after Krush The Enemy. They’ve been a staple in our set list for the last two years. These songs are a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash metal style.”
Warbeast will be releasing a full length album entitled Destroy in early 2013. READ MORE
Down, the band led by ex-Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo and joined by members of Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, and Eyehategod, has released a video for “Witchtripper”, which comes off their recently released EP Down IV Part 1 The Purple EP. The video is very tongue-in-cheek and has a very satanic, witch-infested vibe about it. It’s well worth checking out below (Hell, the song alone is pretty badass). READ MORE
Down, which is fronted by Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo, is now streaming Down IV Part 1 – The Purple EP via Billboard. The first of four scheduled EPs, The Purple EP will be released Sept. 18th. It is the first Down release to feature Crowbar bassist Pat Bruders (who replaces Rex Brown). You can stream the album below.
Anselmo tells Billboard, “It’s obviously easier to knock out six songs rather than 12 songs. Me personally, I hate doing full-length records ’cause it drains the f*ck out of you. And (an EP) leaves ways less chance for songs that you’d consider filler songs to get through. I think it’s the healthiest way for Down to continue to get music out on a reasonable schedule.” READ MORE
Electronic rockers The Birthday Massacre have released “Down”, a new song from their upcoming album Hide And Seek, which comes out Oct. 9th via Metropolis Records (pre-order here). You can hear the track below as well as read the lyrics.
Vocalist Chibi states, “There is an intensity to this record that I definitely felt while we were writing and recording. At times, for me, it was a struggle. I had some very strong emotions during the time we worked on this, and it shows, I think, in my vocals – and I really love how it turned out. The lyrics also touch on some darker themes. There’s a lot of very moving stuff on this record. Very intense stuff.”
Pantera and Down singer Phil Anselmo and true crime best-seller Corey Mitchell have teamed up to bring you Anselmo’s autobiography, tentatively titled Mouth For War: Pantera, Pain, & Pride – Heavy Metal Highs, Drugged Out Lows, & The Battle For My Life. Agent Jeff Herman had been shopping the book around and the proposal was picked up by Jeremie Ruby-Strauss at Gallery/Simon & Schuster. The book is tentatively scheduled for a 2014 release.
The description states that the book is, “a no-holds barred look inside of Philip’s brain, his history with Pantera, the loss of his best-friend, Dimebag Darrell, and an unflinching examination into the downward spiral of pain and drug addiction that nearly cost him his life.”
Author Mitchell was given carte blanche to interview anyone and everyone he deemed necessary to get the full story.
I, for one, am definitely excited to check out this book! Who else is interested in reading about Phil and his story? READ MORE
Singer Phil Anselmo explains that he was originally hesitant about the name of the song, “Somebody would suggest to me, ‘Hey, man, that might make a killer song title.’ And at the time I’m like, ‘You’re out of your fucking mind. There’s no way I’m gonna call a song ‘Witchtripper.’”
When the band brought the song to Anselmo, he responded, “I was like, ‘OK, check this out, you dicks. ‘Witchtripper’ you want, ‘Witchtripper’ you will get’. I laid it on them, and sure enough, they were right – it worked, as usual. So there goes the genius of Phil Anselmo. Always doubting, and I’m the last one to get it.”

Down, the heavy metal supergroup comprised of Phil Anselmo (Pantera), Pepper Keenan (Corrosion Of Conformity), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar), Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod, Superjoint Ritual), and Pat Bruders (Goatwhore), have confirmed that they are working on a collection of four EPs. These EPs will each have an individual release with a year in between so as to allow for touring and promotion. The first of these EPs, EP One, is slated for release on Sept. 18th and can be pre-ordered here.
When asked about the four EPs, Anselmo explained, “That’s the idea right now, but I think that after you work on a body of music, you need to reload, you need to refresh, you need to clear your head. Get that, digest it, get it out of your system, and then decide what direction you’re going to go. It’s a good idea and I think we should see it through. But there’s no way we can rush it. Because I think if it is a series of four, each one should be unique, and that… We’ve shown flexibility — we have songs like ‘Bury Me In Smoke’ and then we have songs like ‘Stone The Crow’… acoustic pieces and what-not… We have all that. So we’ve touched on many, I guess, dynamics, so… I would expect each EP to have its own life.”
Below is the track list for EP One as well as video performance of a new song, “The Misfortune Teller”. READ MORE
