“Downers” centers on Chrissie Swanson, a paranoid high school senior for whom graduating has become a matter of life or death.

Hayden Panettiere (Scream 4) Nikki Reed (Twilight, Chain Letter) and Rebecca De Mornay (Mother’s Day) are attached to star in the new thriller Downers Grove, Myriad Pictures and the producers announce today, reports Deadline. Myriad has acquired worldwide rights outside of North America to the thriller and is pre-selling this week at the American Film Market. The screenplay was written by Bret Easton Ellis (“American Psycho”) based on the novel by Michael Hornberg. Nelson McCormick will direct. The story revolves around a “curse” at the high school in the Chicago suburb of Downer’s Grove. Every year one senior dies a bizarre death before the end of the school year. Christie Swanson (Panettiere) is paranoid that this year, the victim will be her. The film will shoot in Louisiana in Spring 2011.
