Dream House (review) is the tale of Will Atenton (Daniel Craig; Cowboys & Aliens, Quantum of Solace), a high-profile, Manhattan publisher who leaves the big city behind to relocate his wife Libby (Rachel Weisz; The Constant Gardener, The Lovely Bones) and their two daughters to a quaint New England town. As the family settles into their new lives they learn that their beloved dream home has a history of murder. When Will dares to delve further into the mysteries of the house, he is not sure if he is seeing ghosts or if the tragic events are somehow related to his past. ‘Dream House’ Director Jim Sheridan Attempted to Remove His Name From Film

As it wasn’t screened for critics, Bloody hit up a midnight showing of Universal Pictures’ Dream House in order to bring you an early AM review of the long-delayed psychological thriller starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz. It wasn’t very good, in fact, you might say it was erratic.

A week after it’s theatrical demise ($9 million at the boxoffice) director Jim Sheridan has decided to speak out. The six-time Oscar nominee was in fact so displeased with the finished film he sought to have his name removed from it, says the LA Times.

This summer, Sheridan went to the Directors Guild of America with the aim of striking his name from the credits (hoping to use the infamous “Alan Smithee” instead)…[but] the bid was dropped after a series of events that included the company that was financing the film, Morgan Creek Productions, agreeing to a new set of reshoots.

According to a person familiar with production, Sheridan began deviating from David Loucka’s script early on, using an improvisational method he favors. That was followed by a disastrous test screening, rampant anxiety at Morgan Creek, a first round of reshoots, and the production company ultimately taking control of the film in the edit room.

So there you go – and for those of you paying attention, Sheridan’s name is still gracing big screens across the country. I’d be embarrassed too.

Now in theaters everywhere from Universal Pictures is Dream House, which was not screened for critics. Hitting up a midnight screening, I’m disappointed to report that Jim Sheridan’s supernatural thriller is nothing more than a mixtape of ’90s twist endings without any punch.

” ‘Dream House‘ is another one of those slow-stepping snoozers that forgets scares, suspense, drama and pacing… [It's] an arrogant, snotty and pretentious piece of work that believes it’s smart, genuine and clever; it takes itself way too seriously… There’s not a lick of fun to be had, and if anything, the oddly upbeat score diminishes any tension that could have been worked into this overly complex mess of film.”

It’s often wildly underestimated how your living environment impacts the way you feel. Even after doing away with fancy stuff like interior decorators, Feng Shui and “Better Homes And Gardens” it often just comes down to the basics of the space. Universal Pictures has shared the first clip from Jim Sheridan’s Dream House, their suspense thriller in theaters September 30 starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Marton Csokas, Elias Koteas and Jane Alexander. The clip features Craig and Weisz talking about some home intruders and asking the question, “Who is Peter Ward?” Based on the trailer, I’m assuming it’s Craig?

This morning Aullidos has shared the first two Spanish-language clips from Jaume Balagueró’s Sleep Tight (Mientras Duermes), a new thriller from Filmax. Watch them inside. “The residents of the building where Cesar works as a doorman are not aware of the overtime he has been putting in. Apparently, he is at their service both day and night.”

Also beyond the break are the first two TV Spots from Universal’s Dream House, the Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz starrer from director Jim Sheridan hitting theaters September 30. “The Sheridan-helmed psychological thriller follows a family that relocates into what appears to be the ideal residence in small town Connecticut. Former “Greek” star Scott Michael Foster is joining ABC’s midseason series “The River” as a recurring, says Deadline. On the horror drama chronicling a family and TV crew’s efforts to locate a missing explorer in the Amazon, Foster will play a thrill-seeking, adventurous cameraman who may be hiding a secret.

Lastly, check out this low resolution new look at Amy Heckerling’s Vamps. Normally we’d wait for a hi-res version, but it’s the coolest still released to date. The film is selling quietly at the TIFF. A Distributor could be found soon for the Alicia Silverstone, Krysten Ritter, Sigourney Weaver and Richard Lewis starrer. “‘Vamps’ tells the modern day tale of two young beautiful female vampires living the good nightlife in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality.” Click the inside image for the old gallery.

Teasing at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con, Universal Pictures has unveiled the official trailer and one sheet for Jim Sheridan’s Dream House, their suspense thriller in theaters September 30 starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Marton Csokas, Elias Koteas and Jane Alexander.

Arriving in theaters September 30 (edited down to receive a PG-13), the gorgeous poster is a massive step up from this piece of crap and features a very Shining-esque moment with a pair of twins who promise to be the “key” to the movie. Speaking of The Shining, the below trailer appears to give homage to Kubrick’s classic, along with The Amityville Horror and The Strangers. But what concerns me most is that the trailer sort of implies that everything that happens is within Will Atenton’s (Daniel Craig) head — does this mean the finale promises to have a non-supernatural twist? Barf.

In MPAA rating news, TheWrap reports that the MPAA Appeals Board ruled against Morgan Creek Productions on Wednesday, deciding that Dream House, the Universal movie starring Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, deserved an R-rating. The board decided that the movie merited the rating because of “some violence.” But here’s where the MPAA destroys art: Morgan Creek’s executive VP of marketing, Greg Mielcarz, told TheWrap that he still believes the film will ultimately receive a PG-13 rating. “They gave us a list of several things in the movie that they thought should be cut,” he said. “We’re going to … work with them together to ensure that we receive a PG-13.” Good to know that the MPAA are editors and know what’s best for 13-year-olds. Pffffft. Jim Sheridan’s thriller hopes to hit theaters September 20.

Website Little White Lies caught up with rising star Jesse Eisenberg to talk about his role in Holy Rollers. When asked if it were true that he was making a sequel to Zombieland, Eisenberg explained: “No. They’re writing the script right now but I haven’t seen it and I suspect that the longer we wait, the less relevant it will be. I mean, all the actors would love to do it and the director would love to do it but I’m not sure what’s happening.” If it were to go behind cameras, Ruben Fleischer would return to direct in 3-D with Woody Harrelson and Eisenberg returning to star.

Lastly, Eli Roth has revealed further details about his current slate of projects as a producer and director, speaking to Screen at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival this week. He is currently working on the screenplay for his long-gestating sci-fi apocalypse movie Endangered Species, which will be in the $40 million to $60 million bracket and should mark his next directorial duty, reports Screen Daily. The movie has been in development for what feels like a decade, so it’s not that shocking that Universal Pictures would release what appears to be a dated one sheet for Jim Sheridan’s Dream House, their suspense thriller starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Marton Csokas, Elias Koteas and Jane Alexander. Arriving in theaters September 30, the poster features the Atenton family reaching to enter their brand new house in New England. It gets the point across, but I find it lacks in impact — it sort of reminds me of those late ’90s/early ’00s “floating heads” posters.
