Japanese alt-metal band Dir En Grey has announced a three week N. American headlining tour that will see the travel much of the US and dip into Canada. The band will be touring in support of their last studio album Dum Spiro Spero as well as their new EP The Unraveling, which was released earlier this year. The full tour schedule can be seen below.
I saw Dir En Grey on the Family Values tour in 2006 and they put on one hell of an energetic, violent show. Singer Kyo scratched himself so deeply on the chest that he bled. He also raked his fingernails against the inside of his cheeks to the point that he was spitting blood. He also threw up into a bucket. I’m not going to go so far as comparing him to G.G. Allin (because who can even come close to that guy?), but it was pretty intense. READ MORE

Japanese prog metal band Dir En Grey has released an incredibly odd yet visually arresting video for their new single “Rinkaku”. The video is made up entirely of black and white drawings that are placed close enough to create a semblance of movement. However, it’s still very disjointed. Oh, and did I mention that it’s also incredibly twisted? Five faces melt out of paintings and flood a room with their flesh. A bird watches in terror as its body lays there in a state of decomposition. And more. Basically, it’s a great way to start off your Monday if you want to feel a bit odd and out of place.
As for the song, it’s immediately identifiable as Dir En Grey. Something about their guitar tone and atmosphere are just so unique. And if that wasn’t enough, Kyo’s voice cinches the deal. Check it out below. READ MORE

Straight off the band’s official website: The track is unlike anything you have heard before, almost overturning the band’s musical concept on a new scale, coming in with a range full of depth with Kyo’s vocals that evoke classical elements in this beautiful and intricate melodic track which builds up dramatically with the intertwining guitars and bass.
