[Blu-ray Review] ‘Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night’

I’ll admit that I don’t know too much about the comic Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night is based on other than the Cemetery Man connection and what I’ve gathered from the issue or two I’ve read, but the people responsible for this adaptation of Tiziano Sclavi’s cult hit don’t seem to know how to make an entertaining film. So, I guess we’re both at a disadvantage.

In theaters April 29 from Freestyle Releasing is Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night, Kevin Munroe’s live-action adaptation of the popular Italian comic book that stars Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Anita Briem, Taye Diggs, Kyle Russell Clements, Peter Stormare, and WWE wrestler Kurt Angle.

The poster takes some elements of the Italian versions but adds Dylan’s zombie sidekick Marcus (played by Sam Huntington) and a slew of the undead.

Omni Labs and Freestyle Releasing have locked in the April 29th release of the long-delayed Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, Kevin Munroe’s adaptation of the popular Italian comic book. Over the past few months the Italian release has promted a slew of international trailers, posters and images. This morning Apple launched the official U.S. trailer and one sheet featuring Brandon Routh as the title character.

We just now got our hands on over 30 images from Kevin Munroe’s Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night, his adaptation of the popular Italian comic arriving in theaters April 29 from Freestyle Releasing.

The story has been moved from London, where Sclavi had originally set it, to present-day New York. Dylan Dog (played by Brandon Routh) is forced back into his nightmare investigations after he is approached by a woman who claims to have seen her father brutally murdered by a mysterious creature. With his street smart, his gun and a set of paranormal weapons, Dylan attempts to restore order both above and below ground.

Last Option Freestyle Nabs ‘Dylan Dog’ for April Release

Freestyle Releasing, a company well known as “the last option” for a theatrical run, will help Kevin Munroe’s Dylan Dog: Dead of Night into theaters on April 29.

I’m excited to finally see it, but I wasn’t all that impressed with the trailer, one sheets or images.

Brandon Routh stars as Dylan Dog, a man forced back into his nightmare investigations after he is approached by a woman who claims to have seen her father brutally murdered by a mysterious creature. With his street smart, his gun and a set of paranormal weapons, Dylan attempts to restore order both above and below ground.

Tons of Monster Footage in ‘Dylan Dog: Dead of Night’ Italian Trailer

This far we’ve seen a handful of terrible posters, and a slew of stills that look like something out of old “Tales From the Crypt” episodes, now the full Italian trailer was released for Dylan Dog: Dead of Night that makes it look like an early ’90s action horror film along the lines of Blade — I’m still not sold. What do you think?

I want to like this movie, I really do, but all signs point to disaster. Kevin Munroe’s Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, his live-action adaptation of the Italian comic, has been on the shopping block for quite some time now. I’ve heard of some local test screenings, yet no buyers. We’ve seen horrible Italian posters and trailers, and now a slew of new images that made me uncomfortably cringe. Take the image below, are we going to see a “Tales from the Crypt” movie? Let’s just hope it’s as fun as Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood
