It’s horror. There’s a monster in it.
It’s horror. There’s a monster in it.
It’s horror. There’s a monster in it.
Follows a group of twentysomethings who take a trip to a cabin deep in the wooded wilderness and are methodically hunted by a Bigfoot-like beast.
Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.
From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes V/H/S/2, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.
We finally get a full length trailer for V/H/S/2 and it’s worth the wait! As someone who really liked most of the original film, I’ve got no problem telling you that V/H/S/2 is much, much better. It’s tighter, shorter, leaner and a rock solid viewing experience. It’s also gory, chaotic and fun as hell – which this trailer certainly represents!
Acquired by Magnet Releasing out of Sundance as S-VHS, V/H/S/2 will be arriving on VOD platforms June 6 with a theatrical rollout set for July 12. In the film directed by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Gareth Evans, Eduardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener and Timo Tjahjanto, “Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. Eduardo Sanchez is continuing the winning streak he started with Lovely Molly in a big way with his winning segment in V/H/S/2 and Exists, his found footage Bigfoot movie.
Now he’s spoken to The Bigfoot Report (appropriately) about the project. And, if you’ve got about 45 minutes to spare, you could do worse than listening in to their conversation.

The poster for V/H/S/2 has emerged and it’s a nice, solid classy look for the film! It keeps the skull theme from the original but adds an air of old-school menace. Hopefully you guys enjoyed our V/H/S anthology enough that you’ll insert our next collection of tapes when V/H/S/2 tracks you later this year.
Acquired by Magnet Releasing out of Sundance as S-VHS, V/H/S/2 will be arriving on VOD platforms June 6 with a theatrical rollout set for July 12. Horror in the summer? Sure, why not? Magnolia says they’re opening in more theaters than last year, so keep a look out for updates this summer. Until then, check out this hideous still from Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto’s segment, which is literally going to blow people’s ind this weekend at the SXSW film Festival.
In the film directed by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Gareth Evans, Eduardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener and Timo Tjahjanto, “Searching for a missing student, two private investigators break into his abandoned house, which contains another collection of mysterious VHS tapes. In viewing the horrific contents of each cassette, they realize there may be terrifying motives behind the student’s disappearance.”

While you guys haven’t seen V/H/S/2 yet, I’m wondering if a screening of Adam Wingard’s segment might give Canadian Filmmaker Rob Spence pause before going ahead with his plan to have a working camera for an eye, though I suppose odds are slim it will actually lead to a supernatural encounter.
Per Unbelievable Facts, “[Spence] damaged his right eye in a childhood accident and is determined to replace it with a digital camera. “Team Eyeborg” has just succeeded in fitting Spence with an artificial eye containing a working LED – a step towards a camera-containing synthetic eye.”
Right now, the LED records visual information and sends it to a computer. But it sounds like the ultimate goal is to set up a configuration that not only records information, but allows Spence to see stereoscopically again. Obviously I think this is a super cool endeavor and I wish Spence and his team all the luck in the world. I also hope this new eye doesn’t cause him to see too much.

Before we get to the international news, I was sent a short video by fan Trent Shy who created this incredible stop-motion animated title card for our forthcoming V/H/S/2, acquired by Magnet Releasing out of Sundance as S-VHS. The video depicts a VHS tape exploding to create a skull face. We like skulls. A lot.
In news out of EFM in Berlin, some more of you dear readers will be able to check out the movie come later this year. Paris-based Memento Films International has been racking up sales on footage horror picture S-VHS, the sequel to cult hit V/H/S, says Screen Daily.
So far, the picture has sold to Australia (Village Roadshow); Russia (Big Movie); Middle East (Falcon); Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Colombia (Energia Entusiasta); Singapore (Yellow Brick); and India (Pictureworks). UK, Canada, Germany, and other major territories are forthcoming.

Paris-based Memento Film International has picked up international rights to found footage horror picture S-VHS, following its premiere in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival last week, reports Screen Daily.
The picture is the sequel to V/H/S, which had members of the audience fainting in the aisles when it premiered in Sundance last year. News of deal follows Friday’s announcement that WME, which represented North America, had sold the picture to Magnolia which also distributed V/H/S.
“We’re already big fans of the first one, which was super scary and smart,” said Memento head of international sales Tanja Meissner.
“This one takes it to another level. The talent of the directors involved and the new orientations on the found footage exercise makes this second installment a sure bet for theatrical releases around the globe.”
S-VHS is produced by The Collective, Salient Media and Brad Miska and Tom Owen’s Bloody Disgusting. The portmanteau features segments by horror maestros Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, Eduardo Sánchez, Gregg Hale, Timo Tjahjanto, Gareth Evans and Jason Eisener. READ MORE
Bloody Disgusting’s S-VHS, the latest V/H/S project, had its world premiere Saturday night at Park City’s Library Center Theatre during the Sundance 2013 Film Festival. It was followed by a wave of great reviews – a much more unanimously positive reception than last year’s outing. And then, like last year, a deal was made within days to bring the film to the big screen. It’s being reported via Variety that Magnolia Pictures, who scored V/H/S out of the 2012 fest, has acquired the second tape for limited theatrical run, alongside ultra VOD via Magnet Releasing. The announcement was held here until it was official.
“Our goal is to make each sequel better than the last, unlike any horror franchise ever,” Brad told me via text adding “We know that’s a bold and nearly impossible task, but we’re trying our best to deliver quality horror that we can be proud of.”
This latest tape features the works of Gareth Evans (The Raid) & Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre), Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project, Lovely Molly) & Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Adam Wingard (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die) and Simon Barrett (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die), the latter of which will be making his directorial debut on the film.
The first movie followed a group of students hired to break into a desolate house to find a lost VHS tape, paving the way for the movie to go into a series of found-footage stories directed by up-and-coming genre filmmakers. The new movie, starring Adam Wingard, Kelsy Abbott, Lawrence Michael, Levine Hannah Hughes and L.C. Holt, follows a similar structure, with a pair of investigators discovering a tape while looking for a student. READ MORE
S-VHS, the latest V/H/S project, had its world premiere last night at Park City’s Library Center Theatre during the Sundance 2013 Film Festival. When I woke up this morning, I was pretty thrilled to find that my twitter feed was filled with glowing chatter about the film, some of it even from critics who didn’t like the original V/H/S all that much.
Now, we are NEVER going to do an official review this film on this site. But that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna share what other people are saying. The general consensus is that this is a much more solid film than the original (some are saying it’s leaps and bounds better). It’s definitely shorter, gorier and bigger.

I can’t believe 2012 is almost over. Partly because the year flew by, but mostly because not many films that came out truly left an impression. As horror fans, I think we’re in the same sort of position we were in at the tail-end of all the torture crap; we need a new movement. A new direction. A new something. Anything. We’ve gone through a few trends in the past few years (found footage, ghosts, and vampires to name a few), but nobody is doing anything interesting with them at the moment.
The reason I’m doing all this complaining as a preface for my Best Of list is because this is the first year since I’ve been writing for the site that I haven’t been able to come up with a Top Ten. Either I pulled a Rip Van Winkle and slept through the year or 2012 was a huge bummer. Below are my five favorite horror films of the year, along with a really fun honorable mention that just barely didn’t make it onto the list. READ MORE

The Hollywood Reporter has just dropped the news that you can expect some fresh new blood (and talent) in S-VHS (formerly V/H/S/2)!!!
Gareth Evans (The Raid; pictured above), Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project, Lovely Molly) & Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun) & Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre) are among the new talent directing segments for the franchise. Adam Wingard (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die) is returning along with writer/producer Simon Barrett (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die), the latter of which will be making his directorial debut on the film.
Per THR, “Some news perfect for Halloween: Gareth Evans, who directed The Raid, and Eduardo Sanchez, the director of The Blair Witch Project and Lovely Molly, are co-writing and co-directing segments of a second installment of ‘V/H/S’, the hit horror anthology that had people fainting at the Sundance Film Festival.”

I loved Lovely Molly. The film is currently available on demand DVD from July 16th through September 15th, but if you’re a Blu nut like me you’ll want to wait just a few more weeks. Image Entertainment will release the DVD and Blu-ray of Lovely Molly (which stars Gretchen Lodge, Johnny Lewis, Alexandra Holde, and Jane Fleming) on August 28th. Extras will include 4 features (“Path To Madness”, “Haunted Past”, “Demonic Forces”, “Is It Real”), plus the theatrical trailer.
And now we have an exclusive look at one of those extras, the six and a half minute “Is It Real?”
From Blair Witch co-drector Eduardo Sanchez, “‘Lovely Molly’ is a gripping horror thriller that begins as newlywed Molly Reynolds moves back into her long-abandoned childhood home. Soon, she experiences unnerving and impossible things. What starts as a simple story about things going bump in the night escalates into a battle for dominion over Molly’s spirit, as she is beset by a cunning, malevolent force bent on wreaking havoc and terror on Molly and her family. Richly exploring the parallels between psychosis, addiction, and demonic possession to chilling effect, ‘Lovely Molly’ shows us what really happens before the exorcist arrives.”
Lovely Molly had its World Premiere to critical acclaim at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness and had its U.S. premiere at the 2012 South By Southwest Film Festival. Head inside for the clip! READ MORE
From Haxan Films and Amber Entertainment, The Blair Witch Project and Lovely Molly director Eduardo Sanchez is currently in post production on Exists, his found footage Bigfoot movie starring Brian Steele, Dora Madison Burge, Samuel Davis, Roger Edwards, Chris Osborn and Denise Williamson.
Penned by Sanchez and Jamie Nash, the horror pic follows a group of twentysomethings who take a trip to a cabin deep in the wooded wilderness and are methodically hunted by a Bigfoot-like beast.
“Our main focus in Exists was the creature itself which was designed by Spectral Motion,” says producer Jane Fleming at the San Diego Comic-Con. “It’s basically the kind of effects work you’d find in a big budget movie in our small scale film. Actor Brian Steele plays our creature and he is amazing.”
Sanchez shot the film found footage style, his first film of the like since Blair Witch Project and we’ve been assured that in the movie the creature will be anything but out of focus and hidden. “The creature is front and center and you see a lot it,” says producer Mark Ordesky. “fans of bigfoot movies are going to be really happy with what we’ve created.”
“This movie harkens back to the earlier and really creepy Bigfoot films that scared me as a child like The Legend of Boggy Creek,” Sanchez added. “Everything we’ve seen of Bigfoot has been from the first-person view such as the Patterson film when you see him moving through the woods. That’s why this particular subject is ideal t shoot from the found footage perspective.”
In terms of the rating Ordesky said, “We’re not tailoring the movie for any particular rating, but contextually alone it definitely lends itself to an R rating.” The film wrapped three weeks ago and is now in post. The inside word is that it’ll start making its rounds sometime around late to early 2013.
After months of taking Mr. Disgusting’s word for it (review here), I finally saw Image Entertainment’s Lovely Molly. And I loved it. It’s super unsettling, well-directed, well-paced, and has some truly striking imagery.
It’s also a role that requires a lot of its lead actress, Gretchen Lodge. I felt bad for her just watching it, but she more than rose to the occasion. Earlier this week I sat down with Lodge to discuss her role as Molly, what she thought of the script, and the elements of the story she might have been the most trepidatious about filming.
Lovely Molly opens in limited theaters today, May 18th. If you live in Los Angeles, Lodge will doing a Q&A following the 7:40PM show at the Chinese 6 at Hollywood and Highland this evening. She’ll also be conducting a poster signing at Dark Delicacies on Tuesday night.
Directed by Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), “When newlywed Molly Reynolds returns to her long-abandoned family home, frightful reminders of a nightmarish childhood begin seeping into her new life. She soon begins an inexorable descent into evil that blurs the lines between psychosis and possession.”
