The Purge, which comes from director James DeMonaco, looks to be a fairly intense piece of work. While I have yet to see the film (something I’m fixing soon), I took the opportunity last week to hop on the phone with Max Burkholder (“Parenthood”), who plays young Charlie Sandin in the film.
In theaters June 7th, the film also stars Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Tony Oller, and Rhys Wakefield.

While we weren’t able to attend the first annual Stanley Fest Film Festival, Bloody Disgusting reader Erik Myers was lucky enough to attend what sounded like one of the best horror events of the year.
The fest played host to the world premiere screening of The Purge, Uni’s collaboration with genre buffs Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse.

The summer is looking hot as one film I’m extremely excited about is the Assault on Precinct 13-esque The Purge, which comes from director James DeMonaco.
In theaters June 7th, a new one-sheet has preemed that gives warning of the 12-hour emergency services suspension. Population control will get under way with a half-day of murder and mayhem starring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Tony Oller, and Rhys Wakefield.

Nice! I guess the fact that director Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies is nearing a $100M global take doesn’t hurt things, but All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (read our review) is a damn good movie on its own and is finally going to be legit available to all of our North American readers. That’s right, almost seven years after The Weinstein Company bought the film (and insanely shelved it) it’s finally coming out.
In an interesting turn of events, Radius-TWC has wrangled up the rights. The “TWC” there stands for the “The Weinstein Company.” Years after they decided they didn’t know what to do with the film and sold it to Senator Entertainment (who subsequently went bankrupt) they’ve sort of bought it again! See what Levine and produce Keith Calder had to say about the turn of events inside.

Director James DeMonaco’s Platinum Dunes-produced The Purge (formerly Vigilandia) – a political/sci-fi slasher starring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Tony Oller and Rhys Wakefield – now has an expanded official synopsis, though it doesn’t differ too much from what we’ve already reported on the film.
It reads, “If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? In The Purge, a speculative thriller that follows one family over the course of a single night, four people will be tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home. In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity—including murder—becomes legal. The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It’s one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When an intruder breaks into James Sandin’s (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. I actually kind of like this premise and hope they execute it well. The film will be purged onto screens May 31st, 2013.

The Cure is a completely hypocritical “event” where, three times a year, for 12 hours, murder is completely legal. The film is said to play like a home invasion film with a heavy political theme. It’s planned to be the first film in a post-apocalyptic franchise.”
